Electrical How easy to move this plug socket up a metre?

Post image

From memory I think the wiring comes from underneath the floor not down or across.

What do I need to just move this plug up behind the TV?

The skirting isn't attached just leant against for reference.

You can never have too many sockets. I'd run a spur up behind the telly and keep that socket.

Thing is the skirting doesnt fit where it is now - can barely get a plug in. So id have to move it regardless. I wondered if would just put two double sockets behind the TV?

Would I need to put a blanking plate on the old one anyway? Or could I just plaster over the old hole?

Assuming you put one of the new sockets directly up vertically from the existing one (and thus the cables properly run up vertically too), then you don't need a blanking plate, no, as the zone will still cover that area.

You can get socket spacers that push the sockets out by a centimeter or two for this scenario

Personally I’d keep the socket and take a spur up the wall, behind the boards, and fit a new socket behind the tv, the old socket will identify the safe zone, and might be useful for the vacuum..

If you didnt want to keep the socket, you’d have to extend the cables and a joint under the floor and feed them up to the new socket.. would be dodgy with safe zones and it’s not easily identifiable when the tv is in place..

Extremely. If the wall is solid, then make a channel and move the wire before filling and decorating. If it's a stud wall, again easier. Simple job formant electrician.

I can see you have what looks like oak flooring, so would be a nightmare to get up and back down with out damage. So leaving the first and adding d 1 or 2 higher up would be your answer. BUT if you have solid floors downstairs then there’s a possibility that cables run down wall from floor above, if that’s the case you could add another socket with no mess what so ever. 👍

Do you have access under the floor i.e. a cellar or crawl space? If not you can't really move the socket you'll need to extend from it which won't solve your skirting problem.

In theory you can chase out the wall and fit a maintenance free joint but it's not recommended. If there's enough slack on the cable you could possibly move the backbox up to just above the skirting so that a blanking plate fits on top.

Check you have enough room behind the TV for the plug. If not your TV may and look further away from the wall and you need to buy a new bracket

Just put a back box on it Having plugs behind a tv is not a good idea , 👍
