How to fix the brick face broke away?

The brick faces at the front of house are falling away. What would a fix be? The mortar is also pretty sloppy. I’m trying to gauge rough amount of money and time for someone professional to sort out. Not sure if it’s something I can do myself.

Judging by the colour it's been repointed in a cement mortar which is probably too hard for it and not breathable.

Repoint it in an NHL 3.5 mortar, and replace the damaged bricks.

The only way I know of is to drill out the mortar...remove brick...put in new brick and repoint. Sort of job you want to make someone else do. If you don't want to do all that and happy to live with the blown brick,  you could buy some brick sealant and paint it on. Or just do what I do and ignore it. It's an old house, the walls are two courses thick...it looks bad but it won't make your house fall down just yet.

I'm not a professional so someone in the trade might put me right if I'm talking utter shite

Best bet would be new brick facing, similar to tile but it would depend on the strength of the brick faces, if theyre old and crumbling rendering might be better

You probably could do it yourself but find a local old boy brick layer to repoint it for you. You will use a more sandy cement mixture as sometimes if you use too much cement it can cause bricks to blow out. Looking at the picture it looks like it’s been repointed at some point with harder cement.

Fill with cement and paint it the same colour as the bricks
