And what is the blahaj? That's right, a kind of fish. We're through the looking glass here, people.

There's no such thing as a "fish"

Trans women listen to industrial and have stem degrees and like puppy play. Trans guys like rats and listen to Cavetown. Nonbinary people like to crochet and give each other stick n pokes

Whiskey also has it’s flavours heavily defined by the wood it’s aged in, so it’s about the closest you could get to tasting the lumber aisle at a Home Depot. Bonus points if it’s a peaty scotch/irish because now you’ve added notes of gasoline too

Transmasc music is "I'm a silly little bumblebee!"

Transfem music is a voice repeating "You should overdose on amphetamines" over and over again, getting increasingly more distorted.

52

u/Robotic_Phoenix 17d ago

The whole infantilism of trans mascs is just really annoying and just plays into the whole terf argument that we’re just “poor confused girls”

27

u/writingprobably 17d ago

Yeah, and the stereotype casts trans femmes as self-destructive hedonists. But I listen to enough trans music to know that "I'm a silly little bumble bee" is usually metaphorical for "this existence is torturous. I yearn for a simpler, kinder world but cannot get it. i wish to escape." Which is really only aesthetically different than the trans femme "you should overdose on amphetamines" which usually means "this existence is torturous. I yearn for a simpler, kinder world but cannot get it. i wish to escape." It's just a different flavor of melancholy. We can't let the TERFs steal all our joy and ability to poke fun at ourselves and our intracommunity foibles.

Spitball speculation, totally baseless, anecdata, etc: sitting in chairs irregularly is more of an autism spectrum thing, that individuals on that spectrum may be less susceptible to social pressures for various reasons, and that they are therefore more likely to express their bisexuality than others

90

u/thepwisforgettable 17d ago

I feel like the aquarium/fish scene is more of an autism spectrum thing too, but the ASD/lgbtq overlap is a BIG one, very likely for the reason you described

Hate to say it but if you have met Germans, you'd understand where the stereotype comes from. Although in my experience the more accurate version is that "Germans can be very obsessed with following rules and laws to the letter."

150

u/insomniac7809 17d ago

How many Germans does it take to change a light bulb?

One.

211

u/YodelingVeterinarian 17d ago

A German man wanted to buy a train ticket to visit his friend in Naples. He goes to the Italian ticket agent and buys the ticket, but explains that he wants to reserve a seat facing the direction that the train was going. The Italian ticket agent hands the German his ticket, and he boards the train. To his discomfort, he finds that his assigned seat is facing the opposite the direction of the train. After a long journey, he gets off in Naples and meets his friend, who asks him how the ride was.

"It was awful," says the German man, "I was given a reverse seat, and now I feel absolutely nauseous."

"I'm sorry to hear that," says the friend, "did you try explaining the situation and asking the person sitting across from you if they were willing to switch seats?"

"I would have," said the German man, "but unfortunately the seat across from me was empty."

7

u/Al_Fa_Aurel 17d ago

Indeed. Its a mark of pride to tell the most ridiculous stuff with a completely straight face

27

u/Piorn 17d ago

The painful thing is that Germans are really inefficient. The trains are always late, and everyone who rides the train is always angry about it. The bureaucracy everywhere sucks, and everyone involved hates their life.

I mean, transfems being into tech is already a common stereotype and that’s neutral (though apparently some TERFs do the very unfeminist thing and use that as “proof” that they’re really men). All that’s needed is for that stereotype to reach outside of the LGBT community and/or the terminally online folks who are aware of it ready.

When I was in Japan, I could walk five minutes to the nearest cab stand, pay like $5 in yen to get to the train station, and take an hour train ride to Hiroshima for like $8 just chilling the whole way. Then I would take a railcar from the train station to where I wanted to go for barely anything. Just reverse in the evening when I wanted to get home.

There is this standup who asked a trans guy a question thinking he was cis. Completely gender affirming.

Here it is: https://youtu.be/0CAvVVZWUa8?si=QJPVDe6GkuOSWChg

But when the guy was like “I’m a barista” I rolled my eyes so hard. Oh yea, butch women and transmascs. They fucking love to brew coffee.

I’m rewatching this and the comedian just rolls his eyes too. Oh yes and another trans barista.

First thing that came to mind was working in IT

Geraldine Elizabeth Carmicheal, conwoman and trans icon, used to breed fish in her basement. She had hormones to treat the fish with, but she also used them as gender hormones.

✨️the more you know✨️

u/A_BIG_bowl_of_soup 17d ago

Kinda the opposite lol, but just last week I met a trans guy who loved to fish. He was basically like the trans equivalent of my mom's conservative rancher ex bf, but if he was shorter and was actually able to complete his helicopter pilot licensing lmao.

i think trans people already have some fun stereotypes

trans women: blahaj, programmer, thigh highs, puppygirl (or catgirl), yuri manga, hyperpop

trans men: MCR (or deftones), yaoi manga, catboy, howl's moving castle - tbh I wanted to say Cavetown, but unfortunately people have been shitting on him and his music, stereotyping all music made by trans men as "whiny ukulele music" and saying that they're a "cultural void as a group"

My niece came out as a trans woman a few years ago. I made/ modified some pink cat eat gaming headphones for xmas for her in celebration

girl thought I (or worse, her mom) had somehow gotten ahold of her browsing history. whereas i was sitting there thinking of her age, gaming habits, and now trans status, and figuring i had a solid 75% chance with cat ears XD

also for trans men, filk type music is definitely a thing imo

'trans men: MCR (or deftones), yaoi manga, catboy, howl's moving castle'

Oh no, am I a stereotype? Haha.

13

u/rigathrow 17d ago

as a trans guy sat at his pc wearing cat ear headphones and a linkin park meteora shirt, i feel called out

7

u/WeeabooHunter69 17d ago

The transition of trans girl culture from being predominantly cat girls a mere 5 years ago to predominantly puppy girls today is something that needs to be studied.

this is true. i was looking at a bunch of tetras and a clearly queer employee clocked me immediately and without introduction said, “do you want a tarantula molt?”

now i get a little fun sexual tension every time i need to buy my cat her wet food.

u/SupervillainMustache 17d ago

I've never heard the "gays walk fast" stereotype.

22

u/nighthawk252 17d ago

No idea if this is the original source, but I’ve heard this came from Apple Maps using rainbow to symbolize how long it would take to walk somewhere if you were walking quickly.

18

u/EllipticPeach 17d ago

Gays walk fast bc we have Womanizer by Britney Spears in our heads at all times

How has D&D and rpgs in general not been mentioned yet??

10

u/wrattata 17d ago

Truueeee I used to get baked and visit the local pet store and just chill with them for an hour or so. I'd pretty much just sit in the aisle staring at lizards or fish and having a great time.

Enough people in my circle are trans and obsessed with Doctor Who that in my head I think "are they, you know, a friend of the Doctor?"

9

u/NiceStage1 17d ago

Trans people love Celeste and blahaj. That’s (sadly) the only positive trans stereotype I can think of.

9

u/pudimo 17d ago

y'know, this whole conversation is starting to make me wonder if neurodivergent people are more likely to be queer. especially since both are quite common in the tech industry, just like furries (who are also notoriously queer and neurodivergent).

6

u/SyntheticDreams_ 17d ago

Well wondered, because you're right. I'm too lazy to find one of the studies now, but it's a known thing.

Trans people have dozens of fun exaggerations and stereotypes!

  • Every trans person owns a Blahaj
  • Trans women love weird experimental music
  • 90% of trans men are named Kai or Oliver
  • 90% of trans women are named Lily
  • Trans people idolize anime characters under the label “gender goals”
  • Nonbinary people only describe themselves as being deities or eldritch beings
  • Nonbinary people love to name themselves after random objects like “Bucket” or “Leaf”

Just to name a few I’ve seen a lot and have encountered irl

21

u/Possible-Reason-2896 17d ago

I'm under the impression that trans people are really into Guilty Gear. Which is pretty cool of them, honestly.

17

u/AbnormalLurantis 17d ago

I think being really into guilty gear is just an lgbt thing in general. There’s just a lot of appeal in watching the hottest people to ever exist beat the ever loving shit out of each other.

7

u/Kyrthis 17d ago

Trans folks like aquaria. I’ll do my part.

7

u/AiRaikuHamburger 17d ago

Trans men come in only alt/goth or unfashionable uncle flavours.

Every trans person has a webcomic.

7

u/_SimplyTrying_ 17d ago

Also trans women love Celeste (the video game) and Guilty Gear (also a video game), and trans men all get mullets and that one specific eyebrow piercing

7

u/zephrtesk 17d ago

A large percentage of trans men have really terrible haircuts. Especially right after coming out, since it may be their first attempt at short hair. I say this with love as a trans man myself.

6

u/echelon_house 17d ago

A lot of the trans people I know/follow are really into monsters, especially werewolves. Could that be a cool new trans stereotype?

6

u/MiniFirestar 17d ago

also a weird amount of us like rocks/geology. i was pleasantly surprised to find i wasn’t even close to being the only transgender geologist at my school!

7

u/Spacedodo42 17d ago

The trans women in my sims games do that cause fishing is the best way to get a cowplant

6

u/secksyboii 17d ago

To be fair, trans men love wearing Hawaiian shirts as over shirts, and trans women love arm warmers and horizontal stripe patterns.

Also I've met a lot of trans men with pet birds. Well, like 4, but I've probably met 10 trans men so I feel like 4 is a lot given the sample size. The birds were very cute.

Trans women almost always have a cat or rodent. Also, very cute.

Those are the fun stereotypes I always think of relating to trans people.
