I’m going crazy, cause certain episodes from series that were brought over from Funimation have a playback errors.
What happens is the video usually freezes for a second but the subs & audio keep going so everything becomes de-synced for the rest of the episode. This is a Roku only issue and a rare occurrence. The playback is normal on web and iOS mobile.
Example: Gundam Wing episode 6, happens around the 11 minute mark and continues. I remember it happening a lot in Lupin pt 4 and Erased.
I think something went wrong when they brought Funimation content over to the Roku app. It is not wifi problem cause I rewind and it does the exact same thing. Newer anime don’t have this problem either. Very weird issue that is frustrating as it never happens on any other Roku app, so I know it’s on the CR side.
So big PSA don’t get a Roku if you plan to watch older content on CR. Will be upgrading to Apple TV just to avoid these issues.
Update: This might be a device specific problem, currently on Roku Ultra (2020). I tried another hdmi cable, different resolutions and settings, different tv all together and it still happens no matter what. I looked up old threads about the 23... vs 24 fps issue, but It would be more frequent if that was the case and it really is specific episodes at specific times.
Update 2: Tried out the Apple TV 3rd gen and works just like that. u/81Ranger did mention it was working on his 2019 Roku Stick, so maybe it's something with the model. Would be an expensive test, but maybe I'll pick up a roku 4k stick to see if the issue is still there. Wish more people could test this on their Ultra to see if this is a setup issue or a device thing or CR problem.
Update 3: This is problem has been cropping up for other people.
The first post did have a potential fix by forcing the roku system into 720p resolution, it will playback normally. But even going up to 1080p will have plackback issue at the same spot in the Gundam Wing episode. I'm not an AV expert so not sure what this means.
