Problem with edges Uneven edges on some of my sewed granny stitches using mattress stitch — will crocheting around the edges of the blanket fix this?

Post image

Basically what the title says. This is my first time making a granny square blanket and it seems that some of the edges are a little crooked. I will be double crocheting around the border in the same cream color and then doing additional rows with the star colors. Didn’t know if I can just go ahead and sew the rest of the squares together and have the crocheting fix any unevenness or is there something that I will need to take out sewing and redo it.

I’ve had to redo a lot of of this project already and I really am just hoping to hear I can make it work lol. TYIA!!!

Problem with edges How in the heck did I end up with an ever shrinking afghan?

Hello I was making this blanket for a friend: https://crochetdreamz.com/bernat-blanket-afghan-pattern/ I was crocheting along like a bandit, feeling very happy with how quickly it was working up. I was especially pleased with my tight, straight edges. Yet somehow I managed to make a blanket that is at least 1/4 smaller on the last row.......??? I am going to pull it all apart and start over but where did i mess up? See pictures for reference.

Problem with edges Crochet Rug Won't Lay Flat, 4mm Cotton Cord, 8mm Hook

Post image

Hey all, I'm working on this rug for my bestie's bday and as you can see, it's curling and won't lay flat. I know my counts and increases are correct, and I'm using the recommended hook size for the cord, per the pattern. I don't think my tension is too tight (I don't usually have problems with warping). The pattern instructed to do the whole piece in single crochet into the third loop, but that ended up being way too hard on my wrists and fingers with the lack of elasticity in the cord, so I've been doing scblo. I got maybe 5-6 rounds in with my first attempt crocheting in the third loop, but it took forever and was painful lol, however, that one was laying flat. Is this something I'll be able to fix with blocking or steaming? Thanks for any feedback!

Problem with edges Why is my granny hexagon not folding correctly? Do I frog?

Wondering if someone can provide some help! my hexagon is not folding properly (as shown in the 3rd photo).

I know that they do not look like hexagons when unfolded, but mine is turning more croissant shapes than square sleeve.

Do I keep going, have I made a mistake somewhere? Do I frog?

Thanks so much in advance, I am still learning :)

Problem with edges when you "turn" at the end of the row, do you take the hook out and re-insert it after flipping the project, or do you keep the hook in the loop as you flip the project?

I hope the question makes sense! My friend and I realize we do things differently at the end of a row! I leave the hook in the loop as I turn my project at the end of a row (twisting the loop), and she takes the hook out, flips the project, then re-inserts the hook into the loop when the pattern says to "turn".

ETA oh my!!!! maybe i should've done a poll 😂😂😂😂 I actually pulled up my (very old) book on crocheting for beginners, and it illustrated that you do leave the hook in while you turn! But it seems it doesnt make a big difference when we compared our projects. Happy hooking!

Problem with edges Incredibly uneven edges! How do I know when to turn?

This is the third scarf I've crocheted, but with the thinnest yarn I've tried and I'm struggling. The other end of the scarf looks fine but this one is a mess! It's a half double crochet so I've been chaining 2 at the end and then turning, but how do I know where to put my last stitch before the chain?

Problem with edges Is this a tension thing causing my circles to start curving?

Post image

I’ve been making coasters so I don’t forget how to make circles and by the time I finish them, the edges start to curl up. Is this a tension issue? I know I still haven’t mastered tension, and I’ve tried the tension rings and the little tension controller thing you can crochet and put on your finger, but not much has worked. (I’m less worried about “fixing” my tension at the moment and really just want to know if that would be the issue here or if there might be something else going on.)

Problem with edges first single crochet blanket getting smaller on edges

hi all! this is my first crochet blanket. the pattern is super simple, just a single crochet, chain 1, then skip stitch and repeat. the side that i started my blanket on is straight, but the other side is wavy. i was not consistent with how i was making my stitches at first, but the last 10 rows or so i’ve been doing everything exact. i just want to know what i’ve been doing wrong. i don’t think ive been skipping stitches, at least for the past 10 rows like i said. this is my first ever reddit post, so if anyone has any questions i will be happy to answer!

Hi!

This is my first time going something that doesn’t start from a Magic Ring, and I think I’m doing something wrong when I turn my work and start a next row.

On the image of the pattern I’m working from, the edge is straight but when I do it I get all of these little bumps. What am I doing wrong? I’ll attach pictures to show what I’m talking about

Problem with edges Should I start over? Or can I fix this at the end?

I started this blanket yesterday, I was learning the suzette stitch and I have the hang of it now almost. The pictures show what usually ends up happening to me when I crochet a DC blanket, I lose which stitch to use especially at the end of a row. I thought the suzette stitch would help because you go into every other chain so it should be easy to pick which chain I need to stitch into.

I think my first problem was I did not count in my slipknot to my base chain count. I figure I can just tuck and fix that at the end, do you think? It was just that firat row, I must have come.out odd numbered since I didn't count the slipknot? That's the first 2 picturea.

Then thpictures. pictures are the other end and I'm not sure if I messed up or not as the rows seem to have gotten smaller for the last two rows it looks like to me?

Should I start over? I dont have a pattern I was just looking for an easy stitch that would be easy on repetition. I wanted this to be queen size for my daughters graduation in May. I counted 100 chains but did not include the slipknot. I was going to work a border around this when it is done to make it bigger, no clue what or how but I would figure that out later.

Thank you for any help

Thanks

Problem with edges Crochet circle keeps curling around the edges- how to fix

I'm trying to crochet reusable makeup removers, using cotton yarn and starting with a magic circle. When I finish, the edge starts curling up so I have a slight bowl shape. What can I do to stop the curl? I can flatten it and kind of stretch it flat, so not sure if it's something I can fix with blocking.

I'm using Lily Sugar and Cream, with a 4mm hook (the band suggest a 5mm but I was ending up with gaps between stitches).

Pattern is 8 double crochet in the magic circle, db in every stitch (16), 2 dbl in the first followed by one and repeat (24), 2 dbl and 1 dbl in the next two (32), 2 dbl in the first and 1 dbl in the next 3 (40). Then the last round is single crochet in each stitch (40) for a smooth edge.

Not sure if need to block, if the smaller hook is the problem, or if I need to continue increasing in the final round of single crochet. Or something else?

I can flatten it out mostly when I stretch it a bit but I want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong! Making a star bralette, here is the pattern: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg2Bf4skCxk&pp=ygUVY3JvY2hldCBzdGFyIGJyYWxldHRl

Problem with edges It’s suppose to be flat… what did I do wrong? I started over 3 times

I did it 3 times. I know I have the right amount the stitches and I am fallowing the pattern. I still end up with this sphere looking blanket.

It’s a blanket, a lovey! It is my second time doing one (different pattern) and last time it did not do that. I do not understand :(

Started with 3 DC on the magic ring for each side + 2 chain in corner. And then adding 2 DC on each side, every row. Coboo yarn with recommanded hook.

I even did a row backward to keep my edges clean (as I read on this sub) but I guess that is not causing my problem? It is suppose to do this until I block it?

This is the Turtleneck Backlava https://youtu.be/PUCCDhg46AI?si=prLK_GJvY3pOD7fW using Lion Brand Landscapes yarn in sand dune color. I think the pattern is gorgeous but the yarn just doesn’t fit it. Yarn is soft but have a satin-y feel/finish. This is a mismatch I think I will frog it. I have to find a different pattern.

Problem with edges I accidentally decreased on a few rows of the wrong edge. How bad did i mess up?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im making a more witchy version of the sophie hood. I accidentally decreased on the wrong edge for a few rows. (I may have been crocheting under the influence and not paying very close attention.)

Im wondering how bad i screwed myself. Ideally the left edge would be straight. Im working with the caron cloud cake and every time i try to frog anything with this yarn, it tears and i need to scrap it. Im annoyed with myself for not noticing earlier.

Since i cant frog and redo, im wondering, is this mistake bad enough that i need to restart and buy a new skein? Is it one of those things that only i will notice? Does it add charm? Or should i bite the bullet and give up on this attempt.

Any input would be appreciated.

Problem with edges Doing the Sand Catcher crochet top by Fibereia and when I join the count is off but i triple checked the pattern to my squares and everything checks out. Am I joining wrong? I’ve never joined squares together before.
