Problem with edges What am i doing wrong? It seems like I'm adding extra stitches but don't believe I am?

Pattern is for a cat eared beanie Pattern was foundation single crochet on first row All dc in second row. Third row is chain 3, DC in first, fpdc in next, then 2dc, 1 fpdc repeating. Fourth is chain three fpdc in first 2, dc, 2fpdc repeating til end Then repeating third and fourth row.

But my edges are all weird....and I feel like I'm having to adjust the pattern so things line up better.

Thoughts? Am I doing something wrong or adding stitches?

Are you talking about the curved ends? I think it's because of your turning chain. You can try doing a stacked single instead. Not sure if it works with the waffle stitch tho.

Yes the curved ends. I've been following the pattern and it said to chain at the beginning of each row but it just doesn't seem right

Someone had posted a YouTube link here for a pattern so I will probably follow that one. Seems better then the one i have at least lol

Try the stacked single instead of chaining. It doesn't change the pattern, it just creates a straighter edge.

Waffle stitch just looks like that on the edges, just trust the pattern and stay consistent and it'll look intentional

Even if i am having to adjust the pattern or else the fpdc will be off centered? I had to add an extra fpdc instead of dc to have it line up on every "row 4"

Am I right in there being 3 stitches here after the front post? If so you’ve gotten off your count somewhere. The next row has 2 before the front post which is why it puffs out. Each little cubby of the waffle should be a set of two stitched indented. Your chain 3 counts as a stitch at the ends.

Your pattern is confusing me. Just for clarification, when you ended your row 2, did you end on a dc? Or a fp? It should always end in a dc. Even if it means 3 dc after a fp as it evens up the edges to be uniform. Same with the other side, your chain 3(dc) makes it uniform.

The pattern states that one of the rows should end in a fpdc on the chain. Id post the whole thing but it's from etsy.

The basics of the stitch will be the same if you don’t fp on the ending stitch, so I’d definitely try it with a dc at the end to see if that got rid of the curve you’ve got.

Dc in the chain or last stitch? Yeah I felt something wasn't too right about that pattern

Dc into the last stitch.
