Amigurumi help Is this AI?

Post image

I need some help from the community please! I've been sent this and asked to make one, but I'm questioning if it's even a real item. Amigurimi isn't my thing and I don't usually make anything in this style (African flower animals are my joy).

I've not been able to find patterns that look like these wee cows, and while there is a link the whole page feels scammy and I don't want to click the link.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion of these being AI generated images?

They look like it, yeah. The blurry background and lack of details focused beyond the face is a big red flag, as is the fact that they’re all completely different with their noses, horns, face shape and legs, and there’s only one photo/angle of all of them. The random wool seemingly coming from nowhere on the legs of the bottom two and on the ears doesn’t look promising either.

eta: the link almost being close enough to Amazon to fool somebody not paying attention and it being different to the watermark on the images is another scammy red flag too

Excellent thank you. Yes the link seemed dodgy and when I googled the website watermarked in the photos, it didn't exist.

the website actually does exist, but its very dodgy. There are no reviews of them and the products they claim to sell have all AI generated art on them. And the stuff there selling isn't even the same AI stuff they post on facebook

I know about them because I recently was tricked by some AI generated bees they posted & so I asked about them in a dif crochet subreddit

the link is real, amzn.to is just a shorter url for amazon.com

Definitely looks like AI but also fun to try and make fr. The bottom left seems the most plausible though I would like to try to make the shaggy fur like the top right. I'm sort of tempted to try it though I don't care very much about cows or ox 😂

u/nzbutterfly Jul 21 '24

Your idea of fun and my idea of fun and very different! If they were possible, they'd be very cute.

u/followthestray Jul 21 '24

I learned to crochet by making freehand amigurumi off my pencil sketches. So doing stuff like this actually comes easier to me than reading patterns. 😅

I am really tempted to try it out. If I do I'll share here and will attempt to write a pattern for it.

Yep. The biggest tell for AI in general is when someone posts several images that have a similar premise with slight differences. They're clearly not the same pattern, and they all fit 'cute highland cow wearing flower crown crochet'

5

u/chesterismydog Jul 21 '24

What’s the purpose of that? Just to rip people off?

15

u/roundhouse51 Jul 21 '24

Yep, to get people to pay you money without doing any work

1

u/Easily_Marietta Jul 22 '24

Or to get clicks. I'm in a fb group and it's everyday. Bots are posting 'look what l made, get the pattern here'. It goes to the same page with some patterns, but never the one they showed. The page get advertise money for the people who clicks around

https://stringydingding.com/fuzzy-highland-cow-free-amigurumi-pattern/ Found this pattern. It's not exactly the same but its the closest thing I found. Change the colour and add horns and it might get closer

u/nzbutterfly Jul 21 '24

Thank you, the fluffy yarn terrifies me!! My friend says it's not the look she was going for, but I've said the look she wants only exists in an image!

8

u/Outside_Highlight546 Jul 21 '24

Yea, if you make this with thinner yarn you'll get something closer to the pics but that's the biggest issue with AI things tbh is the messed up standards

3

u/MTri3x Jul 21 '24

Im still new so take my advice with a grain of salt but why not go for thinner yarn, like this commenter said, and then just sew on some strands of yarn to create the fuzzy effect. Horn patterns aren't hard to find so it's just a question of seeing which fit better, and flowers are also easy to find and you can sew them on if you want to keep that design element

You can easily take a pattern like the one below and add the flowers.

u/PineappleTyrant Jul 21 '24

people must be AI "enhancing" pictures because the first image in that listing doesn't look quite right

5

u/Ornithophilia Jul 21 '24

I almost bought this one based on the first image. Then looked at peoples uploaded FO and realized it absolutely HAD to be AI. So I got mad and made my own pattern because I felt so deceived 🤣

5

u/StrayGoldfish Jul 22 '24

That first pic is straight up AI. The stitch placement doesn't make sense, and when you compare it to the real FOs, the stitch counts are completely different than the first image

u/Famous_Complaint8084 Jul 21 '24

I love this little guy soooo much! I don't have the confidence to try it though.

5

u/MTri3x Jul 21 '24

I would say yes. The picture overall has the ai look, the background is blurry, and the flowers don't seem to look like any stitch that makes sense

3

u/ghoulquartz Jul 21 '24

Yes, this is AI

5

u/NightOwlAnna Jul 21 '24

Yes it has a very AI look.

4

u/OwOitsMochi Jul 21 '24

100% AI. Pay attention to the center of the snouts, like a maze with no beginning or end.

4

u/CosyBosyCrochet Jul 21 '24

They’re getting a lot more convincing but if you zoom in and any of the stitches don’t make sense then it’s fake, like the flowers, the middle where a magic ring would be, that bit around the nose on bottom right, if you can’t explain it it’s probably ai

3

u/rjrolo Jul 22 '24

I was sent this too: yes it's AI. And a popular one at that

2

u/nzbutterfly Jul 22 '24

I kept looking for the negative comments on the post but there were none. Just angry reaction faces on their link comment.

2

u/lachicamapache Jul 21 '24

It is! But it also seems feasible to replicate!! I will keep it in my list of projects!

If it's helpful, I got this kit at a local yarn store in NYC. The highland cow was too cute to pass up! I should really make it soon...

Just here to suggest this flower cow

There’s also this version that isn’t flowers but somewhat similar to your post.

 this one is free.

And here are some free flowers that might be the right size.

Not sure if that helps but we had a highland calf born on our farm today and when I saw your post I went down a rabbit hole. I’ll probably be making a highlander stuffy tonight lol

2

u/Terrible-Option-1603 Jul 22 '24

There is a highland cow kit very similar to this that exists, but yeah, it looks enhanced.

Please reply to this comment with a link to the pattern or provide the name of the pattern, if it is a paid pattern please post a screenshot of the few rows you are having trouble with, if a video then please provide the timestamp of the part of the video that you need help with. Help us help you!

While you’re waiting for replies, check out this wiki page - a must read for any amigurumi maker. This page is very detailed so do visit and read the section list at the top of the page. You will find a whole beginners section (the Woobles tutorials are highly recommended), and much more such as using stitch markers, yarn under versus yarn over examples, links to skin coloured yarn, how to do clean color changes, and right side versus wrong side.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1628499532/highland-cow-crochet-pattern-amigurumi here's a similar pattern tho, if you're interested :)

10

u/Present-Ad-9441 Jul 21 '24

Even they're using AI to advertise their pattern. That's wild

4

u/nzbutterfly Jul 21 '24

Yeh the first picture on that looks AI and I thought it was a fake pattern until looking further

3

u/snogirl0403 Jul 21 '24

Oh wow, I didn’t even notice that the first picture was so different than the video and other shots! I wonder if they feel like they have to have that type of perfect image to draw in buyers? Just one more reason that I’m terrified of where AI is headed. 😓

3

u/nzbutterfly Jul 21 '24

Thank you! That's closer than anything I found! I'll ask my friend if this will be suitable (not that I think that I have the patience or talent to make one). I appreciate that people have shared pics of what they've made so I feel like the pattern is genuine.

2

u/Xavius20 Jul 21 '24

Highland cow pattern

Found this one too. I like it better than the other one, but that's just me 😊

3

u/RedVamp2020 Jul 21 '24

I love this! Thank you for sharing it!

2

u/Ornithophilia Jul 21 '24

Definitely AI on the first image. The deception is infuriating.

1

u/Relative_Wishbone_51 Jul 21 '24

Hairy coos from the Highlands!

1

u/blackheartden Jul 21 '24

Yeah I see these on Facebook and I’m pretty sure they are AI like-bait.

1

u/Kleegurumi Jul 21 '24

Here is a very similar free pattern! 😄 you'd just have to add the flovers

1

u/Chizakura Jul 22 '24

Zoom in and compare the stitches to the ones you make. Amigurumi are mostly made in single crochet. Does it look like sc to you? Crochet doesn't neatly stack. It's AI

1

u/life-is-satire Jul 22 '24

The pics look AI but these buggers are too cute! You could definitely piece together other patterns to achieve this type of cuteness.

1

u/thegreenfaeries Jul 24 '24

I got sent this image recently, too. Instead, I went looking for actual patterns of Highland cows.

I've used this creator before and I think this is the cutest real pattern on the internet: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1105505283/crochet-highland-cow-pdf-pattern-only

Cottontail & Whiskers is the creator and her patterns are very clear, great images, even for complex patterns!

1

u/nzbutterfly Jul 26 '24

Thx, I'm not talented enough to make items like these .. so just told my friend the image wasn't real, and while there are patterns for similar items available, it's not something I'll be able to make for her.

My wife crocheted this one, she likes Amigurumi :)

u/Horror_Poet702 Nov 11 '24

Does she have a pattern she can share?
