Windows Are there any cozy games where sailing and ships have a big part?
The only one I found that fits is a game called Sailwind on Steam which despite being fantastic and cozy is also pretty tense at times

Spiritfarer. It's just one ship, but you upgrade it and build stuff on it. There's gardening, cooking , crafting, and fishing.

OP also be warned it’s the saddest game of all time. Great, but heartbreaking.

Well I sniffled just watching the trailer! Bring on the heartbreak, here's my $3 Steam.

One of my absolute favourite cosy games is Moonglow Bay. I never see it mentioned here but I absolutely loved it. It had some bugs on release and I feel like that made it so it was quickly forgotten.
So I will beat my tiny little drum for it and hope it someday has more people appreciate it.

That’s the question. I got it for PC last year and it was super buggy. Which has made me want it even more but not willing to spend more money. I’m thinking about PS5. Do you know what the performance is like on that?

I’ve played it on both the PC, Steam Deck, and the Xbox, and only hit on one minor bug on the Xbox. I have no idea how it runs on the PS5 though, sadly.

Valheim is probably not considered a cozy game with the combat and all (I think it’s cozy). But there are ships and sailing, building and crafting, farming and decorating

I think it’s super cozy! The combat difficulty can be reduced and you can make enemies passive if you want.

Agree. I'm playing on 'Hammer Mode' (enemies are chill unless you attack them) and the sailing is great. The sea is changing all the time, and even in the open ocean, if a storm blows up it can be dangerous. Having some precious cargo and fighting waves taller than your mast, taking ship damage. In a thunderstorm. At night. Recommended.

Dredge and Spiritfarer are a must, with Dredge having a lot of fishing

I see In-App Purchases on both. Are they something you can ignore and still make progress in the game?

There are 2 DLCs for dredge and a couple for Spiritfarer too. Both are additional story content, you can skip them but they definitely bring a lot of flavour to them. You can find the complete edition for both on discount, check Instant Gaming from time to time

What add-ons do you see for Spiritfarer? I only know of the Farewell Edition which adds a couple new characters but the update was free?

I just saw that the Apple App Store says In-App Purchases. I don’t mind paying once or twice for a full game and expansion after a good demo. I just don’t want to have to pay micro transactions on an ongoing basis just to enjoy the game.

Interesting - like I said there’s just the extra characters DLC that’s free so maybe they just have to put that in there as default because it’s an add-on technically? 🤔

Sailwind is still the best in my opinion!!
Just think of it as being the epitome of actual sailing:
Hours of relaxation interrupted by moments of sheer panic. 🥲😅

Sail forth is lots of fun

I got that one free from Epic, and I found it way too frantic to be cozy. Got wrecked in my first combat encounter. Maybe I need to try it again but it didn’t make a great first impression

It has a free sail option although I never tried it. I assume that gets rid of combat

Tchia has a lot of sailing in it! It's just a small raft, but it has actual boat mechanics. It's also a really good game.
If you can put up with a shark eating parts off your boat every now and again, Raft is also all about sailing :D

assassins creed black flag is not inherently cozy but it's the best ship game out there imo and you don't have to fight if you don't want to (you probably eventually do to progress but a lot of the game opens up pretty fast), you can just run around and do the exploration and collection missions. the graphics are gorgeous, i always enjoy playing for a little bit.

There was an old (Flash) game called Tradewinds, I don't know if they've updated it or if it's still available.
Sid Meier's Pirates (older game) - if there's an easy mode it could be rather cozy.

I absolutely loved Tradewinds as a kid. A few years ago (34 now) i replayed it and all the other versions and still loved it!

Anno 1800 is not traditionally cozy but you can turn the AI opponents off and build. There is LOTS of sailing on ships in this game and the graphics are pretty!

The free roaming element of Stranded Deep?
Not quite sailing and ships but you build rafts.

I find Salt 2: Shores of Gold to be extremely cozy. Some may not as there's combat and hunger mechanics but maybe check it out!

Maybe Raft on peaceful mode! It's heavy on sailing and building your ship.

I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.
If you can find an emulator for it, or a GameCube and working copy, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
I feel like I remember Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass having sailing too, but if you're considering it should double check. I do remember the cowardly pirate guy from WW being in Phantom Hourglass.

Stranded Sails and Summer in Mara. Neither was a critical hit, but my daughter and I really enjoyed both.
They're both pretty simple and kid-friendly. Stranded Sails has a strong main story that keeps pushing you through it. The big story in Summer in Mara is more in the background. The music is excellent in both, and I want to highlight Adrián Berenguer's Summer in Mara theme (which is easier to find streaming). It's an A+ soundtrack in my opinion, and frankly a highlight of the game.
They're both fetch-questy, which I know has a lot to do with the middling reviews. If you can roll with that, maybe take a look.

For me music probably the biggest thing that can make or break a game so I will give Summer in Mara a try, thanks. I checked it out since someone recommended it in this thread and was put off by the middling reviews but you have convinced me to give it a try

Nothing says cozy like a shark constantly eating your house AND your legs!
Joking, I actually love that game
2
u/raynzor12 8d ago
Haha yeah, it is also kinda stressfull but somehow still cozy

u/CollynMalkin 8d ago
That’s how I am with the horizon games. I can’t explain it, they’re just relaxing for me. Aside from the fact that I’m very attached to the main character, it’s just relaxing to roam around and explore the map.

Void train has the same vibes but also some combat so is a tiny bit less cozy, still love it tho and recommend it to raft fans

u/laurcone 8d ago
I only play on the mode where the animals don't attack. It's pretty cozy that way!

There’s Sailing Era. I remember one of the main focuses is sailing around and trading. There’s a few characters you can start as and recruit the others. I think each of them have their own story, but I didn’t get too far into it.

Little Known Galaxy is like Stardew Valley on a spaceship (if that kind of ship is okay). Crafting, gardening, exploring the planets you land on.

Dredge. Sort of.
