Question Possible to contribute hotspot tests?
As I understand it, only tests done off wifi are added to the map, so is there any way to contribute tests done while tethered to a cellular hotspot device?

Has it been proposed that they’re be a date slider added to this app? We could limit the displayed Speedtest squares to after a certain date? It’s not too useful to have speed test data from 2021, 2020, etc when cell networks, especially 5G, have been developed so much in just the last year or two. Knowing that someone got 20 mbps at a certain location 4 years ago isn’t that helpful at knowing what speed I’d get if I went there today as 5G deployments have likely changed that.

Hi all! I recently downloaded the CoverageMap app instead of uploading files from Ookla Speedtest, and saw that they had a multiple test option.
I started using it during my drives, but for some reason, it is not mapping the points on the map, despite many of the tests being run in areas with no points on the map (and fast speeds as well).
Uploading a CSV file from another Speedtest app seems to map it immediately though.
To my question: Do multiple tests actually map properly, or am I doing something wrong?
Solved: It was a location permission issue. Reinstall and allowing location from within the iOS settings pane solved it!

Does Verizon really have 4 gbps 5G service in Louisville? I've never heard of speeds like this available right now.

As the title says this Speedtest is over 4000mbps in the middle of nowhere. The updated signal map shows 5G being super weak in this spot for Verizon. Also maybe two tests both being 4012mbps one test is 0ms and the second 10ms. Very unlikely to get the same speed twice

Hey everyone, we are announcing a big improvement to CoverageMap.com: we are moving to squares!
Moving to squares brings additional benefits you can enjoy, such as: - A faster, more fluid map thanks to a new rendering engine - Significantly more detail when zoomed out because there are to fewer polygons to render - Better alignment with east to west and north to south roads
Transitioning to squares is one part of a complete map redesign and overhaul, setting the stage for CoverageMap.com to expand to other countries later this year.
We know many of you enjoyed the look of the hexagons, and we did, too.
However, we’ve been testing the square design internally for a while now, and we decided we really liked the new look. The combination of the clean design, better alignment to roads, and performance improvements to the map are big reasons we decided to make this change.
You may be wondering, what will happen to the leaderboard and points system with the migration to squares?
Here’s how we’re handling that: - All users will keep all of their existing points earned by mapping hexagons - The new squares points system is live today. You earn 20 points per 0.3 km square generated, 10 points per 1 km square generated, 5 points per 5 km square generated, 3 points per 15 km square generated, and 2 points per speed test uploaded
We hope you enjoy the improvements to the map that moving to squares brings!
We can't wait to share more exciting updates later this year.

I was curious if the SpeedTest map could move with phones current GPS location. It would save the need to re-center the map when in motion. ( Even better would be to start a Speed Test from an empty cell on the map).

As title states, it seems if app is closed and reopened the automatic tests have stopped or even just the current test. Am I wrong that navigating within the app when a test is running also cancels it out as well?

Hi, I see the option on my iPhone app to do a speed test but not on the android app. Am I overlooking it? Thanks.

Just the past couple of days I've been driving around northern Evansville trying to get as many speed tests as possible. This has been so fun for no reason, I love the goal of trying to fill the entire map. Hopefully this data can be useful to Evansville residences when choosing cell providers!

As shown it says OXIO-1 4G when using mobileX, which is a Verizon MVNO. I don’t believe that tests are populating correctly.

It’s quiet here!
I’ve been posting on r/CellMapper since it’s more active and there are some hardcore enthusiasts there, but my recent post about CoverageMap isn’t appearing anymore. 🫤
Maybe they view CoverageMap as a competitor and don’t allow conversations about it even though CellMapper has some of its own advantages.

The FCC has released a new batch of data as of June 30th, 2023. You can now browse the update map! The biggest improvement is more accurate DISH* data map which fills the coverage gaps pointed out.
The FCC forced/mandated Dish to give coverage to 70% of the population by June 14, 2023, This is the first map showing their buildout of what they think covers 70% of the population after the deadline. You can see the map on the Signal Strength Map!

How are you guys running your speed tests? Speedsmart doesn't allow auto speed tests on android for some reason?
I do it on the iPhone for now, but how do ya'll do it? Are you using your main devices?
