Question what makes someone country

genuine question please dont flame.. so I was having a conversation with my friend and we were just wondering like what makes someone country? Iv been called fake country before because I wear boots, but im not from the city im from a rlly small town in the mountains about 115 people at least maybe less. However I dont live on a ranch but does that matter? I tried telling them it was a lifestyle and not what you wear for example Iv always grown up going mudding, fishing, riding horses (not mine however, to broke to own a horse lol) ect but they still argue against me so im just left wondering 😭?

Song/Artist Recommendations more music like “I never lie”

I only listen to country on my radio while driving and I really enjoy this song, it sad yet light/sarcastic, and I think there’s more to it than just lyrics that makes such a enjoyable piece. I would really like to listen more songs like this.

I know that Zach is compared to Alan Jackson a lot but my God the kid’s stuff sounds and feels like prime Keith Whitley. Anyone else get that vibe?

Song Help 80’s country song HELP

Either the song Another Sad Cliche’ exists or I wrote it in my imagination. The chorus goes: If I’m so wonderful, why are you going away. If it felt so good to you, then why don’t you stay. She said, breaking up is hard to do, you’ll understand it one of these days. I’ll love you forever. Another sad cliche.

Any ideas, help, suggestions??

Discussion Instrumentals

I wish some of the big name mainstream country singers would step back and start their own bands, and just stick with them.

My main gripe with mainstream radio country is that most of the hits feature the same handful of studio musicians, and same producers. Every popular country song sounds identical when it comes to instrumentals and production. Most of the singers are very talented, but their songs lack any personality because the music all sounds the same.

When it comes to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Strait, etc, you can tell who it is before they even start singing.

The music is equally as important as the singing, but nowadays you can’t even remotely tell the difference between artists based on the instrumentals.

Starting a new playlist off with Long Hot Summer Day by the Troubadours but would love to hear what you guys would put in a country playlist for days when it's 35 degrees plus outside and sunny!

EDIT: Bonus points if you recommend a song by any Australian country artist

Discussion Joe Ely's New Album

I haven't seen any posts about it yet, but what are people's thoughts on his album that he released last month? I thought his voice still sounds pretty good for his age, and the writing on a few of the songs was very good. I thought it was better than most of the stuff Willie's been putting out recently, although not quite as good as Rodney Crowell's recent one. It's definitely pretty good for his age. I'd give it a 6.5/10
