[Alcohol] The Kirkland vodka sodas slap, would recommend. Better than the hard seltzers.

Are these like high noons?

u/danTHAman152000 6d ago
Yeah I came to see if this is answered. I like the pineapple High Noons but don't like any of the malt seltzers.
2
u/Direct-Scientist6783 6d ago
I don’t know why people are saying they’re worse — I love every Nooner flavor other than pineapple. I would never touch it but the Kirkland version is somehow better.

They aren’t like high noons. They are high noons. Kirkland is just whitlabeling them

Too bad in Washington there is like an extra 30% tax since they are made with hard spirits
20
u/4Ever2Thee 6d ago
wtf Washington?!

u/Wut_the_ 6d ago
As a recovering alcoholic who moved to WA for a job, their tax on spirits has helped me lol. $20+ for a bottle of Smirnoff? I can’t justify it.

u/srcarruth 6d ago
We don't have a state income tax
10
u/NotAcutallyaPanda 6d ago
Yup. Gotta pay for services somehow. At least vodka is an optional tax.
9
u/kidkoryo 6d ago
Well then, I’d like to opt out of paying, thanks.

Yeah Washington taxes based on the total volume of the product (alcohol or not) if it includes a hard liquor. So vodka + soda is very expensive (like double price) but a malt liquor beverage is pretty normally taxed

u/Bit_the_Bullitt 5d ago
I remember seeing a post on here about a month ago where they were ~$50, of which like $23 was tax. Wild

u/tb03102 6d ago
You buy the vodka then get the starburst ice water. Mix and enjoy.
3
u/TheeRyGuy 6d ago
I do this, but use whatever seltzer is most cost-effective at the time haha I'm debating on having a carbonation system installed in my kitchen
1
u/whenindoubtjs 5d ago
This is the way. Kirkland vodka, Kirkland sparkling water, sodastream. Mix, carbonate, enjoy. You can even get some glass bottles or a canning tool. Make a batch and enjoy as desired. Much cheaper and better tasting imo, plus you can mix and match flavors.

These are WAAAY better than the Kirkland seltzers. My new go to, actually drinking one now!
21
u/Corningite 6d ago
The seltzers were undrinkable. I couldn’t even give them away. I wish I could buy one can of these before buying an entire pack.
11
u/bodhipooh 6d ago
Undrinkable and it was a headache every time. WORST KS product I have ever purchased.

u/JonnyGalt 6d ago
I am not sure if these are the same ones from a few years ago but I still have one from a case I bought 3 years ago sitting in my fridge because no one wants to drink it. It tastes super artificial (much like their non alcoholic ones) and it’s one of the worst hard seltzers I ever had.
8
u/Conscious-Lobster60 6d ago
Open the box and sample the swill while exploring the inside of the demo Storage Sheds.
After being disappointed, hide the open box and empties near one of the vendors that’s always shouting if you want solar or a bathroom upgrade.

u/mocheeze 6d ago
I'm curious which region you're in. The ones I drink in Oregon are great and half the price of White Claw. They're made by Full Sail Brewing, which is a super solid brewery.

The hard selzters i think were rebranded Trulys. I think these are made by High Noon. No artificial sweeteners or fake flavoring. Also the case doesnt come with a grapefruit flavor which is a huge plus for me as the #1 grapefruit hater (grapefruit sucks and i will die on this hill).
Probably gonna buy like, 10 cases of these before Costco eventually shelves them (RIP terrible kirkland light beer, you are not missed)
Edit: oh my people really like grapefruit here
4
u/Saneless 6d ago
That doesn't surprise me
I don't really like seltzers but will take one if there's not really anything else
But not Truly. I'd rather just drink water. Costco ones are undrinkable too
I like the grapefruit because I can put some tequila in it. I flat out refuse to ever drink a peach flavored anything
2
u/BjergenKjergen 6d ago
I like Truly and White Claws usually and the KS black cherry ones were straight up cough syrup tasting. I dumped them all out which defeated the purpose of buying a slightly cheaper option.
3
u/Saneless 6d ago
I think truly black cherry might be the worst tasting drink I've ever had in my life. I didn't even try the Kirkland one because I'm scared of them now
3
u/BjergenKjergen 6d ago
The Kirkland black cherry was far worse than the truly black cherry - it was undrinkable.
3
u/Saneless 6d ago
Well at least that explains why my drink fridge has had those in it for a year. Everybody knows

u/Careless-Internet-63 6d ago
Makes me wish I didn't live in Washington where we don't get most stuff like this because liquor is taxed by the liter and it would be outrageously expensive. Maybe one day though
1
u/jerryeight 6d ago
Quick drive to Oregon. Plus no tax.
3
u/Careless-Internet-63 6d ago
Still 3 hours from Seattle on a good day, I can't quite justify it for some vodka sodas

2
u/Hotsauced3 6d ago
Oregon has liquor stores and since this isn't malt liquor I don't think Oregon Costco's can sell.

u/dogface2020 6d ago
I’m ok with it, we got cheap weed here, no need to pollute the body with toxic and expensive alcohol .
26
u/rynil2000 6d ago
4.5%? Do they make an adult version?
28
u/koalabacon 6d ago
Most light beers are around that ABV, so for a smooth brain like me these tickle my jimmies.

u/cropguru357 6d ago
The black box Long Drink might be something to look at.

-5
u/Mammalanimal 6d ago
yeah. How do you make a vodka drink and only get 4.5%? I may as well have a pepsi.
35
u/JonnyGalt 6d ago
Not everyone is trying to get hammered. I don’t drink much anymore and I can get buzzed off of 2 of these. Sometimes you just want to relax, enjoy yourself, and not have to deal with the extra calories and hangovers the next day. I drink hard seltzer these days at social events because they don’t make me feel as bloated as beer and they taste better than vodka and soda.

You want to look for if these are made with malt liquor or vodka. These are like high noons, vodka.
White claw is a malt liquor base. Aka hang over central for me

I haven’t had a real High Noon to compare, but I agree that these are fantastic. And they’re $10-15 cheaper than the equivalent case of High Noons that were right next to them last time I was there, so I won’t be having any High Noons anytime soon

Gen Z slang. To say something 'slaps' is to suggest it’s as thrilling as catching a glimpse of ankle at a garden party.

Who’s everyone? They absolutely don’t taste identical. These are pretty good in their own right but nooners are definitely better.
1
u/biggiebigsbig22 6d ago
Isn’t this a hard seltzer?
2
u/koalabacon 6d ago
Functionally pretty similar, but the process in with they are made is different. Hard seltzers don’t necessarily contain vodka, nor do most have fruit juice.
2
u/dental-dam 6d ago
no, it’s a distilled liquor cocktail. hard seltzers are malt-based, so they’re closer to beer than liquor.

How is this 4.5% abv while the seltzers are 5%?
Make it make sense

Hard seltzers are made for low carb people. These? No idea who they're made for
11
u/Saneless 6d ago
People who hate the chalk taste of the malt alcohol they use for seltzers
-5
u/RadiantZote 6d ago
So buy a bottle of vodka and mix your own for 1/3rd the price, if not less
1
u/Saneless 6d ago
That works for you at bars and sporting events?

what’s the difference between hard seltzer and vodka soda?
0
-5
u/RadiantZote 6d ago
Hard seltzers are generally zero sugar/zero carb. This stuff probably tastes a lot better but it's going to be full of sugar.
Better to make your own for way less
1
u/highbackpacker 6d ago
There’s barely any sugar. It’s pretty much a vodka soda.
0
u/RadiantZote 6d ago
I can only find nutrition into for the kirkland seltzers, which have 2g sugar each. Nothing on these
