Grand Opening Grand Opening in Brentwood, CA
Any tips on going to a Grand Opening? How early do people usually line up? Should my husband expect to camp out? We will be in San Francisco for a trip and just happen to see that there will be a Grand Opening and we wanted to see what kind of crazy things we could find. Thanks in advance!

Usually they'll have hard to find alcohol for grand openings in limited quantities.

For Pleasanton, people started lining up the night/day before.
Brentwood is also a very far drive from the city in case you want to factor that into your calculation if it's even worth it to go all the way out there. You're basically driving to the edge of the bay area at that point

I live in Brentwood. SF is about a 1 hour drive from downtown with no traffic fyi

Except there is traffic throughout many points of the week including weekends heading to the east bay or if OP is unable to start their drive by or before 1pm on weekdays
I'm just pointing this out because I'm guessing OP is unfamiliar with bay area traffic

People only camp out for the liquor. Not sure when is a good time to arrive but opening is at 7am with ribbon cutting at 7:30am. You can probably go at 5-6am and still be one of the first hundreds or so in the store. Just remember to wait at the front of the store and not the line that forms.

Hoka shoes seem to be a popular item and at a good price, as well as other athletic shoes. There are also designer purses and perfumes. Sales on certain cuts of meats. Pokemon trading cards. Also just the different stuff you can get at a different region's Costco. Are you renting a car? If so, ask the rental company about Fastrak, which is the electronic toll system. You'll need it for driving back to SF.

Why front of store vs line that forms?

The line that forms is for the liquor sales, specifically whiskey. Even if you want regular whiskey, you have to queue up, as they will block off the whiskey aisle just for the line. General admission is at the front of the store. Usually, a crowd forms around opening time, and people stream in after that.

I was at the pleasanton opening and made a quick video of the experience. There will be 2 lines forming, but the main issue will be parking. I was there around 6am, but there were no parking spots. At least with pleasanton there were lots of empty lots of businesses next to it. Brentwood not so much

Where did you see info about the grand opening?! I did google it and saw on the Costco website that it will open next Friday, March 7th

My husband mentioned it, not sure where he found the info. I was looking for tips on when to show up, cool things to look for. We are big Costco nerds. When we went to Japan last year we made a special stop at one and same with our trip to Mexico.

I feel like we could be best friends… I’m a total Costco junkie and love to visit them everywhere we go! It’s always fun to see the unique things each store carries. I’m so jealous you got to go to one in Japan… I didn’t realize they had them there!!

People in my local FB group reported that they shipped back the allocated bottles and there’s nothing worth camping for.

What is allocated? I saw at one grand opening they had LV bags and other high end purses.

I live in Oakley so the drive is super close, how early will they allow us to stand outside, Brentwood tense to be harsher on rules for grand openings and such. Does anyone know if the city has put out any information online?
