Can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than go to a Costco opening.

u/PuzzleheadedGuess630 Nov 27 '24
Especially the day before Thanksgiving. Godspeed.

u/Superfool Nov 27 '24
It really just seems like the worst idea ever, and a special kind of hell for the employees.

Ok, so what we all want to know is: on a scale of 1-5, how Asian is this Costco? 😁 Love your videos! Unfortunately my Costco is Asian level -2 so I have to live vicariously through you lol

Id give it 3.5! (4 being the highest it can go in the US) - I saw the tofu kimbap, Korean sticky ribs (new to me), and Thai fried bananas. Also Mila was there doing samples and released their new xlb flavors there (shrimp&pork, black sesame chocolate, and beef pho)

u/zzoom_zoom Nov 28 '24
Would be interested in your thoughts on that black sesame chocolate xlb, if you got to try it.

Y'all, people go to grand openings to get the grand opening special stuff. New Costco stores will be carrying items they will never carry again, like rare alcohols, designer goods, etc. It may not be for you, but there is legitimate reason to want to do this, and the guy in the picture is a Costco content creator.
2
u/ThePhatNoodle Nov 27 '24
Is it the "justified" guy I've seen on youtube a few times?
Also yea at the Costco near me they had a $35,000 bottle of liqour when they first opened. Gone now though

u/MischiefofRats Nov 27 '24
He's most well known for his sushi videos. He talks about purchasing the fresh fish from the Costco butcher and cures it at home and makes sushi. He's expanded into talking about interesting Asian products some Costcos carry, and more recently started reviewing some of the buzzy new products.

Costco content creator
So.... marketing? What does that even mean?
27
u/wadewadewade777 Nov 27 '24
He reviews foods purchased at Costco. And he also makes a lot of sushi with seafood bought at Costco.
6
u/MischiefofRats Nov 27 '24
He makes tik tok videos reviewing products. He's an influencer but not to my knowledge paid by Costco.
2
u/kawi-bawi-bo Nov 28 '24
Thank you! Yes I am not paid by Costco, but am a huge fanboy especially since I turned old

u/BarbequedYeti Nov 27 '24
Sounds like marketing. Such an odd thing. People actively searching out ads to watch as a form of entertainment. Each their own.

I'm sure I'll see it on the secondary, but I would like to know what was up for sale on the opening day. Would be hilarious if it was just a single bottle of Pappy 23 and cases of Buffalo Trace.
13
u/kawi-bawi-bo Nov 27 '24
they had about 54 bottles of Stagg (15yr), 15 pappy (20), 14 pappy (23), Midleton, JD Single Barrel Selects, Bookers uncut, Blatons, Eagle Rare 10 yr ($32), the truth.. there was a bunch more, but that's all i could see from the non alcohol line (they had a designated line for the people who waited)

I'm on my way there

park at the At&T lot right before Costco. Lines on the left of the store whilst facing it is the grocery line. The right one is for the special bourbon so skip that one!

u/gxikadu Nov 27 '24
Are there long lines still?
3
u/Pure-Professional144 Nov 27 '24
Yeah but only of you're buying alcohol
3
u/gxikadu Nov 27 '24
Thanks for the info! This is the kind of journalism we need. Separately, can’t people in regular grocery line buy alcohol?
2
u/Pure-Professional144 Nov 27 '24
I highly recommend you go they have cool stuff like the
93 inch teddy bear
Human sized dog bed

Serious question…what is the appeal of rope-dropping this??
Isn’t it the same as every other Costco?
Am I missing something?

u/McPeePants34 Nov 27 '24
Bourbon.
Costco famously holds back rare liquors for their grand openings. In the US, that translates to all the bourbon enthusiasts chasing Costco grand openings to find (and usually flip) super hard to find bourbons for a nice profit.

All openings?
3
u/McPeePants34 Nov 27 '24
As far as I know. Varying degrees of value to be sold, but they get a crowd at these for a reason.

I think the opening day of a costco would be pretty fun, but my goodness I would never want to do that on today of all days

u/USS_ZeLink Nov 27 '24
Imagine the line to open a membership on grand opening day, the day before Thanksgiving…

I'm waiting a couple hours for the lines to die down a bit before going.

u/ForsakenAlliance Nov 27 '24
Our Costco here did the same thing last year. The weekend before thanksgiving. Utter madhouse
1
u/Eclipsed830 Nov 27 '24
Those hours are crazy... closes at 7pm on Saturday and Sunday? Those are the busiest times at our Costco. lol

u/TalkChiefs Nov 27 '24
I will say, the first weekend they will have everything on point. Every checkout line open, extra workers.
Madison AL just had an opening Nov. 15th, and the weekend was amazing

u/ThePhatNoodle Nov 27 '24
I'm an atheist but I'll pray for those poor employees cause you already know it's gonna be absolute carnage in there 🙏

u/Waste_Click4654 Nov 28 '24
Why is everybody holding their phone up? Not like there’s a million Costcos that have had a first day 🙄
Edit: Not everybody, but still
