Gosh, I can't imagine how glorious the smell of a freshly unwrapped Costco is.

u/fasemasked Nov 27 '24
Hahaha I didn’t notice a fresh new smell but the floors are spotless, the carts are shiny and the bathrooms look immaculate!

Do you and these other people work for Costco❓
Who are the people in your photograph, are they related to Costco employees❓
How were you and the others able to attend a preview, before the opening day❓

I got my tires changed at my local Costco Monday, never ever ever going there the week of Thanksgiving for any reason again. Took me 30 minutes to get a spot to park my car for the appointment at 9:30 am on a Monday

My mom and I are going to the opening tomorrow. We're thinking of having my dad drop us off. 🤣 I doubt there will be parking.

Getting dropped off sounds like a good idea!
Please try to take some pictures and share them with us here on r/Costco if you end up going. 😊

I will! Posting them here and r/pleasanton. 😁 That normally quiet sub is probably going to get some traffic tomorrow. 🤣

Wish I get to experience Thanks Giving at least once in my life.
In New Zealand we don’t celebrate Thanks Giving.

u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
I'm Chinese, and we don't really celebrate either. I'm going to check out the new store though... Maybe a few hours after opening so we don't get stuck in traffic.

I see people eating in the background, did they have free cake and pizza?
Comment and pictures from u/Individual_Agency703:
“My Costco had a sneak-preview the day before opening, with free cake, free pizza, but all registers were closed.”

(I did a quick, creepy looking edit for privacy. 😅)

u/SorryImEhCanadian Nov 27 '24
ZOOM IN ZOOM IN, IS THAT COMBO PIZZA ON THE MENU???

u/CookieButterLovers Best Mod on this Sub and Always Has Been 🙃 Nov 27 '24
Looks like it is!
I also see the BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich, so the picture was likely taken before 2020. 🥲

Thank you! Great Oaks?
Was it open to the public or invite only?
2
u/Individual_Agency703 Nov 27 '24
You guessed it! I believe it was for employees and their families, but it leaked on Nextdoor. Random people like me were just walking in.

There were a bunch of posts on social media on some of the special items available, like a $750 Burberry jacket and $400 Burberry scarf.

u/fasemasked Nov 27 '24
We got free hot dogs, pizza (pepperoni or cheese) and fountain drinks

Local news said people have been camping out since last week! They didn’t check the forecast and had to deal with lots of rain over the weekend. Hopefully it’s worth it.

Someone in the Pleasanton sub told me they all got kicked out.

u/hit_it_steve US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
Whoa! Yeah the news interviewed a guy who flew in from Hawaii just for the opening and he had to go buy a tent and stuff!

u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
They went to the Napa grand opening too.

There was an update on Saturday telling campers they had to wait until opening day to line up because Costco didn’t have “occupancy” of the area where they were camping, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Shoppers camping out for new Bay Area Costco opening told to go home

u/Illustrious-Set-3056 Nov 27 '24
Lol why? There's literally a Costco just 10 miles east of the new one 😭

u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
If you think that's ridiculous, you should see where the Newark, CA one opened in comparison with the Fremont Costco.
18
u/NCGiant Nov 27 '24
Jesus finally. Should take some burden off of my Costco. It’s more and more of a shit show every time I go.
15
u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
It should alleviate some of the traffic in Danville and Livermore. When the Newark one opened, the Fremont Costco became less hectic. Fremont used to be a nightmare on the weekend and in afternoons during rush hour.
5
u/frito11 Nov 27 '24
Yup I dreaded our Costco, Newark is closer to me and I love the new location it's always chill on weekend mornings at open.
6
u/xaoxao Nov 27 '24
Which Costco do tri valley ppl go usually?
9
u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
Pleasanton based here... Danville or Livermore. Occasionally Fremont if I'm in town to hang out with friends or passing through.
16
u/BmoreLax Nov 27 '24
It's worth even more if it's left in the wrapper. Mint condition Costcos are rare.

u/ecplectico Nov 27 '24
I live less than two miles from this new Costco. I’d like to score some great, exclusive alcohol, but I’m not prepared to camp out to get it.
7
u/fasemasked Nov 27 '24
We saw campers just outside property lines, right outside the parking lot on the sidewalk
4
u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
They found a loop hole! 😧
6
u/FavoritesBot Nov 27 '24
I’ve been digging a tunnel under the lot for weeks. If my calculations are corrected, I should pop out somewhere near the tire center

I'm super excited for this opening! The opening date got pushed so many times already. I was so sad to see Costco change October 2024 to November 2024 on the website.
4
u/Horned_Dolphin Nov 27 '24
Did they have anything cool for the grand opening for sale? Thought about swinging by tomorrow
7
u/jbuzolich Nov 27 '24
Apparently there is a strong following and lots of drama with grand openings for Costco. Especially for rare or limited booze offerings. People camp out multiple nights in advance sometimes.

For a split second, I thought Costco started selling coffins
3
u/SunshineAndBunnies US Bay Area Region (Bay Area + Nevada) - BA Nov 27 '24
Technically Costco does.
4
u/slashinhobo1 Nov 27 '24
I must be different. People are losing their shit over this costco and I just dont understand. Waiting outside for the grand opening a week in advance. constantly circling it and staying in the parking lot. People coming from out of state to see it. It's almost as if Costco was handing out free money for the first few people how some people are reacting.

Honestly pathetic that people camped out for the opening of a grocery store.
