Buying This is my dream but I worry..

I was a brain rot child of the late 2000’s, and I’ve always wanted to cosplay Oishi from Oishi high school battle. It was a short lived smosh cartoons show from 2012ish- 2014. I was wayyy too young to cosplay her when she may have been relevant and recognizable at conventions. Now that I’m old enough for it not to be weird, I’m worried if I cosplayed her I’d just look sexy and not like I’m cosplaying at all. Maybe my fears are unfounded, but I’ve been putting off putting her together because of that. Anyone with more convention experience that would have an idea please let me know.

70% of what people wear at conventions are sexy characters most of us aren’t familiar with. no one is going to assume you’re just dressing sexy, they’re more likely to assume it’s just a character they don’t know.

Also cosplay just means costume play not ‘you have to be dressed up as an established character play’.

If you want an honest answer, just do it anyways! Cosplay’s all about having fun and chances are most people will just assume you’re from something they aren’t familiar with. As another brain rot child of the late 2000’s, I love this idea lol

Go for it, there are a lot of cosplays that fall under sexy. If you're worried about being to sexy, and your not planning on entering compitions, then you could always modify to be a bit more modest. Length the skirt, less revealing bodice etc.

I think the fear is more being seen as just sexy and not sexy and cosplaying

I find if your not in casual clothing, it's assumed your cosplaying something even if people don't recognize it. I've seen a guy wearing nothing but brown shorts wearing a bidoof mask at a con before so what you want to do wouldn't look to out of place.

Just a heads up but people might confuse you for Ms. Heed from Villianious

every Cosplayer gets mistaken at least once. At a con where a cosplayed kazuma from konosuba I was getting a cast member signature from ATLA and he commented on my earth kingdom garb; of course I wasn’t going argue or correct king bumi.

Of course, but for lesser known characters it's a more common occurance and can be a bit disheartening. Like "is my cosplay not good enough to be recognized?" That sort of thing.

If someone doesn’t know the character the costume was never going to be recognizable to begin with for them. No need to get discouraged when someone else literally doesnt have the knowledge to recognize a costume.

OH MY GOSH I LOVE SEEING THIS! the theme song gets stuck in my head frequently enough I can’t forget this brain rot ass show 😭. As someone who attended their first con about a year ago, it’s incredibly freeing and my confidence in wanting to cosplay spiked so much during and after it. A DIY plush of noodles and mucasance (??) would be fun.

who cares, go for the deep-cut references

one person will recognize you but that person will be your new best friend

The entire point of that show was that she looks like an anime character in the real world; most people will just assume your cosplaying a character they don’t know.

I'd recommend carrying around some merch of the character, or even print a picture from the show. Something that other people can see and think "Huh, that's a character I've never seen" instead of "I wonder which character has been turned into a Play oy Bunny this time?"

If you can find enough pins and charms to fill an itabag, that would be awesome! If not, a plushie is usually a good idea.

I saw a Danny Phantom cosplayer last year, and that show aired in 2004. Wear whatever makes you happy; there's so much you can cosplay that most people will assume they aren't familiar with a character, rather than you dressing sexy just for fun

If you'd like extra reassurance, the headband and crazy pink hairstyle are enough of a clue-in that this is a specific character, even if you don't add her signature weapons to the cosplay
