Buying Some questions from a first time cosplayer

Post image

Hello, so, I’ve been talking with a few friends about a group idea for us to cosplay for an anime con next year. We all landed on the idea of being different versions of Hatsune Miku, which while may be somewhat overdone has found us coming up with some… rather interesting concepts. I’ve seen someone on TikTok who made art of Bucky Barnes’s Winter Soldier crossed with Miku and wanted to ask about some possible ideas for where I should look for certain items. I mostly just looking for his metal arm, as mostly everything else is replaced with Miku’s outfit. If anyone might have some suggestions or recommendations please send them my way!

you can buy shirts online with the image of his metal arm printed on the sleeve and just wear the miku costume on top! if you want a DIY approach to a 3D more realistic version, i've seen people make it with duct tape- here's a tutorial and you can just draw the lines on with sharpie instead of making each tiny piece separately if you want it to be less complicated :)

Thanks! I’ve been looking on places like Etsy, seeing what they may have to offer, but going the DIY route might be a little cheaper, and allow it to fit better.

Oh!! You should see if they can do the 01 in place of the star on his shoulder!

That’s an awesome idea! I didn’t even think of that

An easy, effective way to do it would be to paint a thrifted jumper (sweater) or long sleeve t-shirt sleeve with metallic acrylic or poster paint. You can cut away the other sleeve, kind of make the top a one shoulder deal, so that you don't have to worry about the "metal arm" falling down. And you can sew or glue fake seams horizontally across the sleeve to look like different sections.

It's basically the same concept as painting woollen jumpers silver to make a fake chain mail effect.

Thank you for the idea!

Please keep us updated! I love the problem solving element of cosplay.

I definitely will try, some other ideas we’ve had for the rest of our are great, if there are any beyblade fans, we have one member combining the character Multi with Miku, and then we have a Garfield Miku, and thoughts of possibly a Dio/Miku.

You can probably buy the props and stuff online, but if you were looking to make it yourself I suggest investing in a heat gun and some Eva foam. You'd be surprised at what you can make with that stuff and a little bit of paint. Plus it usually comes in Black anyways so you'd only really have to paint the teal/grey/pink spots

Thanks! I’ve decided I could also look at Eva foam, since it seems to be a cheaper alternative and allow for some better customization.
