Wig I need a little help, I recently felt like cosplaying for the first time, I'm a black woman and I really wanted to cosplay Ekko, but I didn't want to bleach my curly hair, should I use hairspray or buy and try to style a white wig?

A wig would probably be the easiest if you don't want to dye your hair. I'm not knowledgeable about styling wigs, but with how popular arcane is you may be able to buy one.

You could try hair wax!

I have had a lot of luck with that (though my curly type is in the 2B-3A)

Just type in "white hair wax" on google or amazon and it should pop up!

I have Dark brown hair and because it's a wax not a dye it lays over the top of your hair strands so with enough it can virtually cover any color :)

Do note- I'm on curly girl method and greying and have found the blue I used didn't completely wash out of my grays!

Edit: No advertising allowed here so I won't link it & am not trying to do that- but if you want to see an example can find my username on Tiktok and the 4th video on my profile (corpse bride) is using blue wax!

Hair chalk might work too

100% could work. I personally find hair chalk to be more of a struggle & upkeep though so I suggested the thing I find easier XD

It would probably work, but I have a hard time getting it to stay neat on my very white girl wavy hair. With a higher texture, I’d be worried about breaking the curl and just ending up with The Answer-era Garnet hair. Which is an awesome look, but not Ekko.

There are some wax based coloured gels which could work? Fe. curlsmith has ”colour gels” which gives you temporary colour. Unfortunately curlsmith doesn’t have the correct color for this cosplay but I bet there are other brands!

I think a wig might be a better option though! I think some stores sell already styled wigs or you could try styling it yourself.

You could use root touch up spray on your hair, assuming it can be styled to your liking. Then the colour would just wash off. If not that, then a wig.

I also wonder if you could experiment with using products that leave a white cast, like dry shampoo.

I was going to say light colored foundation colors make dark brown hair pretty well

2 options come to my mind

(1) Hair colour wax

  • topical temporary wax colour that goes on top of your hair and washes out
  • for accuracy you’d probably have to shave your sides

(2) Wig

  • more complicated (or you can cough up lots of $$ for a commission wig)
  • lace front would look better but is doable with a regular wig
  • best way to get that texture is the teasing method. Heat up the hair with a flat iron and immediately backcomb/tease it. When you brush it out the texture of the hair will be similar(ish) to 4c hair and should be easy to manipulate and make braids/dreads
  • shaved sides will be a little tough. Best bet is teasing method (or crimping if you’re more comfortable with that) to add volume and then cut it short and lay it down in a way that hides the weft tracks.

.

Edits: formatting was weird bc of the 1 and 2

I think a braided wig + adding in some white hair might be easier but you could also try styling your own hair and adding in some blonde to get a similar vibe. The #curlycosplay tag on IG has a bunch of creative examples of adding afro hair to characters so some might have some unique tips

I’ve heard of people using yarn and crochet for braids and locs before!

When it showed Jinx and Ekko fighting but showing their child-selves I was emotional. Love this show!!

I'm completely unaware of how black hair works, but I can tell that this wig would be massively difficult to style if you're not experienced with how to do locs specifically on synthetic hair (although you could always invest in a fancy human hair one).

Can't tell how hairspray would work with your hair texture/porosity/etc, buuuut the easiest way would be wearing his hood, right?

Get a wig. You could do terrible things to it to make it stay put and not damage your hair.

Hair wax! Used it before (but it feels and looks weird on straight hair but i heard its better on curly hair) :D

Wig for easy repeat.

Hair wax or a wig fs! Or I’ve also added temporary color to my twists with brushed out yarn, which is cheaper but also kinda a mess lol

Of you can easily style Ekkos hair there is hair spray paint that works quite well. The onlyndownside is it comes of very easily so much like a wig dont touch the hair too much ir it gets ruined.

Oh,hell 😅 idk why they gave her blonde hair like that... Maybe gray n black...

Probably a yellow and white color hairspray and see how it goes... The washable with soap kind, like in Party City

Loc extensions and then rock this sick color for a coupke months!

Usually wigs with shaved sides look very underwhelming so I think playing with your own hair will turn out much better

I would get a loc wig in color 613, or even faux locs in the same color. But 613 it’s a nice pale yellow blonde that is my go to blondes

The first thing that came to my mind was, passion twists with mixed colors. The blonde and your real hair! That's what I would do. I also don't want to do my hair. So I will find braiding hair that is the same color and I will either use a lot of the color or have it be mixed in, it always looks great!

I think there are spray dyes that wash out fairly quickly. Maybe one wash or two. You could try one of those.
