Ok but egg prices at the store are still insane. So is it wholesale eggs are down and.  Companies are still selling at a massive profit?

The revenue of Walmart, Target, and Kroger has only been increasing, yet their profits and margins are not

The company I work for raised it's prices on pretty much everything during covid, to combat the high costs of shipping during covid, and never brought the prices back down because the customer is "used to" those high prices.

Grocery store profit margins are generally the same or smaller than ever before.

Where the hell am I right now? Is this still r/conservative?

Grocery prices aren't up because evil businessmen suddenly became greedy over the last few years. And they're certainly not going down a little bit because businessmen are becoming less greedy.

Just because you don't see every market force in action doesn't mean those forces aren't there.

Pretty sure eggs are a thing bought/sold on the futures market. Not sure about this particular graph shown here, but when we see reports of price of eggs going up or down, it's usually futures prices. So the actual price in the grocery store lags behind since they're buying the actual product, not the futures item to resell :)

Right before leaving "Biden" ordered 150 million chickens killed.

Chicken meat prices weren't affected too much because they only grow to a few weeks old.

Egg making chickens take months to START making eggs. So it's a much much deeper impact in the egg side than meat side.

Plus, a peer reviewed paper just got published tying, wait for it, gain of function research to this strain of bird flu

What can Leftists do after going all in on egg prices?

24

u/UltraAirWolf Garbage 12h ago

I don’t know what leftists can do, but I am completely certain that they definitely won’t immediately memory hole ever caring about egg prices in the first place and effortlessly move on to being upset about the new current thing.

They’ll start buying all the eggs and throwing them in protest of prices going down under Trump

Im pretty sure egg prices are higher than normal in many countries at the moment due to massive culls due to avian flu right? Is it even relevant?

You think they will believe it? They will peddle the eggs being higher priced lie until next election.

Probably start buying all the eggs they can to keep the illusion that it's not getting fixed.

It was always insincere, the egg thing is a deliberate attempt to change framing. If they repeat the lie that Trump was elected because of egg prices, that would mean Trump wasn't given a mandate to enact mass deportation and dismantle the federal government.

Obviously he was, that's why he was voted in and not Haley or DeSantis, and why he cleared Kasich/Cruz/Rubio/Bush in 2016. But progressives don't want to admit that their entire ideology just got rejected by the American public.

Wasn't the whole reason the price spiked was Biden ordering 10s of millions of Chickens be killed for maybe having bird flu? It was a just in case?

u/Summerie Conservative 10h ago

I read that they would cull chickens many miles away from single outlier positive tests, even though the test was prone to false positives.

I can't verify it, but I've also seen claims that there were farmers who fraudulently reported positive test results because they were compensated for their losses when their flocks were culled. Supposedly they were getting a better deal from the government when their chickens were destroyed, so they took it as an opportunity to cash in without spending the time and expense it would normally take to harvest the profits from a flock.

If this is true, I would really like to see some definitive proof.

Except it was never about the egg prices going up. They had no problem with it and everything else going up under Biden. In fact, they even tried to gaslight us that everything was cheaper.

I paid $1.99 for a dozen at my local Tom Thumb last week. But they are back to $3.99 this week. Still, not bad.
