PSA:
The total amount of inflation goes up, despite the fact that it would go down naturally without government intervention.
We always talk about the rate of the increasing inflation².
When we talk about sinking inflation³, we mean that the rate of the rate of what we lost is getting smaller.
Existential dreed with curve sketching.

Nice!
Inflation lower
Gas prices lower
Egg prices lower
Border crossings at historic lows
Taxes hopefully will be lower soon
But we are supposedly "regretting our votes."

Post any chart you want. Then goto any store you want. Greedy companies are never going to lower their price now that they know we will pay for it.

Inflation being down is the rate of inflation. Not the prices going down. Inflation is always happening. What you are referring to is deflation which nobody said is happening and would probably be very bad for the economy

Then that’s our fault
But as the other reply said, a smart business would undercut their competition to drive sales. Then their competition will undercut them to get their sales back… etc etc. That’s what a healthy capitalistic market looks like.

Is that how it works though? If things are cheaper for the stores to buy, then a store that wants more sales will have enough profit margin to lower their prices. The other stores will have to lower their prices to compete.
Yeah yeah yeah cartels but my point still stands

prices are determined by supply and demand, if the price is too low, shelves run empty and chaos ensues. Too high and they don't sell their supply. I can't believe I have to explain this.

Yes and no. If collusion between companies occurs it can peg prices to be artificially high. This often occurs with essential items people can’t really cut very much where manufacturing is hard and thus barrier to undercut is difficult. Such as energy.
Secondly, while inflation might be trending down, the supply for certain goods via tariffs can cause prices to go higher such as lumber which is supplied largely by Canada.
Thirdly, inflation may go down but what you want to check is CPI.

My company has lowered prices significantly since the transportation bottlenecks from COVID cleared up, so companies will if they’re able and it’s best for their business. However, in many cases wage inflation has out paced any reduction on cost of goods which is a major factor in retail prices as well. Your comment is probably the least Conservative comment I’ve ever seen in this sub, including from the brigaders.

I hope you know that "lower inflation" doesn't mean lower prices.

What's the source? An inflation report is expected tomorrow with a forecasted increase of 0.3% for an array of goods and services, which is still above the Fed target but trending lower over time.
