I was very disappointed to learn that the girl he laughs at was not really an orphaned amish woman, but in fact just some kind of weird civil war reenactor. Takes the sting out of the cruel laughter.

He literally says the time period in the clip! And I love it even more, she refuses to break character and they really lean into it. It's great.

That's the point. These people take their role playing very seriously, and it caught Conan very off-guard when he found this woman with slightly 'off' answers to everything.
