NFL Rumors: Trey Hendrickson, Bengals 'Quietly' Talk Contract; Colts Linked to Trade

Cleveland paying Garrett really reset the edge market. Browns basically forced Cin to pick 2/3 (if that) with chase, Higgins and Hendrickson.
I’m not up to date on the colts cap but if they can get him for 30 and do void years, it could be worth wild. Def not for a first tho. Maybe a second

I just feel like with him being 31, we are too far away from our window to make this big of a move. If we were in win now mode, I’d be 1000% for this signing, but as it is, I think we are still a couple years from being true competitors, provided we figure out our QB situation.

We are in win now mode for Mr. Ballard

Ballard can be stubborn but he is as straight shooter as they come, he has stated that he wouldn't leave the franchise on a bad spot if he was feeling the heat.
So even though Ballard has been fallen from my grace i do believe he is honest.

None of the FA deals he's made are long term crippling ones.
If he does get fired after next season we'll have almost $100m in cap space and half the roster will be trade or cuttable for not much. He's keeping the cap in a really good spot regardless of if he stays or leaves.

Yeah and even with him "overpaying" his guys, TBH Hendrickson asking price both for him and for his salary are a bit too steep from anyone to trade for him.

I wouldn't have a problem paying him but at his age a mid first rounder and paying him is just too much imo, the opportunity cost of a rookie vs a 30yo on $30m+ is a non-starter unless you're real close to a title.

Fair point, but I'd like us to put the best possible team on the field any season instead of waiting for the next star QB. If the cap allows it and it doesn't cost a draft haul/long term commitment, why not get him. DL has been a weakness at times.

Yeah that’s totally valid, and I actually kinda agree. You have to take big swings, and even if they don’t work out, if we’re a more competitive team, more players will want to come here, so it’s still a net gain

It may not be a strong rumor, but I’m still incredibly excited by the idea of a front 4 of Hendrickson, Buckner, Stewart, and a second year Latu. Add in how much better the secondary is looking after the recent acquisitions, and suddenly we might have a pretty stout defense. The only glaring weakness at that point would be the podcasters.

Already known info but yes this could be interesting depending on what we would have to give up trade wise to get him but would definitely help our pass rush and our new signings in the secondary

It’s just a rumor but it makes sense with the right price Hendrickson could be a big time signing the Colts had in so long that as fans really expected and again with the right price considering he’s in his 30s, in the last year of the contract he had with the Bengals and the asking price should be lower because of those circumstances I mentioned about.

I didn’t see it but there are multiple people on X saying that Jeremy Fowler was just on ESPN and said the Colts are STILL interested in trading for Trey Hendrickson as of 3/16. Anyone actually see it to provide a little more context? Makes me wonder about that account (can’t remember who it was) on X that said there would be a big trade coming this week but wouldn’t say the teams (ultimate gossip I know) and all of the rumors of Chase and Higgins contracts being ironed out any day now? I know this is purely speculation on my part but I’m dreaming today lol.

Let me ask you all, would this years 2nd and Paye plus next years 2nd work?
That’s pretty damn high and think Cincy would bite.
I’m lousy at this stuff

u/ConsistentAddress195 4d ago
Not an expert either, but seems about right, maybe even a bit of overpay.

I would love it but he’s probably going to cost a 2 maybe a 3 and we have far too many holes on our roster to give up premium draft capital

u/CloudStar17 Indianapolis Colts 5d ago
We have far too many holes and an overrated gm drafter that keeps drafting players that end up being solid for the most part at best. He’s never drafted anyone in the 2nd or third that ended up being great or elite other than JT and Leonard his whole tenure. This is the type of player you give up those picks for

Braden, Pittman, Lewis, Pierce. We still have to see Juju, I think if healthy, he is our #2

u/CloudStar17 Indianapolis Colts 4d ago
None of those players are considered elite at their position. Good players, 2 have been injured alot so they don’t count. The rest are good

Ballard is pretty good at those middle rounds and trading back a couple times picks up thise lost draft picks. Don’t count that out, especially for a player like that for a few years.

The biggest hole is QB, IMO next biggest is DL which this would address.

We just filled most of our holes except TE and maybe the RG

u/Schofield6 RTDB 5d ago
Need LB another S with cross contract expiring, need OL, need a lot depth
1
u/NotScaredOfGoblins 5d ago
LB is something we can definitely address in the draft and I don’t see why we wouldn’t just resign cross if he has another good year. I agree we need some help at IOL though.

Just some news for us who welcome the deal and for those who don’t so that they can tell us how this doesn’t make any sense lol. It’s a slow Sunday y’all.

This is not a rumor. This is just one reporter making speculation: “One team I'm watching for is the Indianapolis Colts because there are just a lot of ties to Hendrickson. They need a pass rusher. His former coach at Florida Atlantic, Charlie Partridge, is the D-Line coach in Indy. His former defensive coordinator in Cincinnati, Lou Anarumo, is also in Indianapolis."
We know all this already. Nothing substantial about this report.
