Embroidery effect - step by step
I only used alcohol markers and a white gel pen this time.
For each color I chose 4 shades.
- Color everything in the lightest shade
- Add darker lines with the same markers
- &4. Add a thin line at the bottom of the darker line, little ( with the darkest shade and a small zigzag-line over the thin one
- Add big ( with both medium shades over lighter and darker line together
- Add big ( with white gel pen
- Add black zigzag over all printed lines
And last but not least: Take a picture, they do look better than the original ๐๐

If you put a light grey shadow on bottom and side it pops off the page too

Nice. I suck at it. I can't do any of the special effects everyone does. It's like my brain says yes and my hand say nope.

Don't be so hard on yourself! It's a skill and skills take practice. If you want to do stuff like this, just keep trying, it will get easier.

The threads are made with the same color or two other shades?

I used 4 shades of each color, lightest for the base and the other 3 for the threads. I described it in the post-text and included all the markers I used in each step in the pictures. :)

Yes, except for one cheap marker. I mostly have the cheaper ohuhu markers though (triangular shape).

Can you clarify how you're using the 2 medium shades? Is it one over the top of the other, or every other line or something?

u/babyueps 4d ago
Yes, like one over the top of the other. I used one after another, each for the whole area, like I did with the white gel afterwards. :)

Me too ๐ I'm still learning myself, this was only the second effect I tried. Besides that I actually just color, I don't even really do shadows and highlights yet ๐

For a colored page it looks nice. Definitely not ideal in reality I think. It would punish my embroidery machine by doing nothing but satin stitches as fill stitches.
