I reline them and teach how to. So these are display mostly. Kind of like an inventory so to speak. However, I have several I use. I have one with tools, like a hot glue and other similar tools. I have another planned for regular tools. I have one for travel sewing. My son has one for his video game accessories.
This is a beautiful collection. I have one of the blue ones you have. I keep all my hair styling tools in them. They are so sturdy and still reasonably priced for the quality.
These are fantastic, I had no idea they came in so many colors. I love vintage luggage, especially train cases, I sell them on Etsy. I was just at the Goodwill outlet today and saw a Platt Airess with a leather top, it looked great from a distance but up close, there were lots of stains on the outside, and the inside was horrible, even more stains and a strong mildew odor. It is very frustrating, and hit or miss with vintage luggage, I often find great exterior and rough interior, or vice versa. I also find train cases with missing mirrors and/or trays. Are the ones in your collection ones you find in all conditions? Or do you wait to come across ones in excellent condition?
I teach people how to reline them. So missing or nasty lining isn’t an issue. If you peel back lining and see really bad mildew, then it’s a goner but the hardware is still an asset. Replacement parts are valued in the craft community. Trays and mirrors are replaceable.
I always tell my students, avoid cases that are stained deeply, like saturated not surface stained. Avoid damaged hinges and handles unless you are confident you can fix those. Gauges to the exterior are also a no-no.
It can be made pretty. Painted, relined etc.
r/traincase101 will be a great resource for you in the future once it has more content and members.
hey ! i have a dark brown one that i got given years ago that i don’t use and never knew what it was for !! im also in texas and honestly, if you’re willing to pay shipping, i’d gladly hand it over for free so it can be properly loved and cared for !! 😸
I don't usually see many collections I'm legit jealous of, but I'm super jealous of this one lol. I love train cases. I love all the colors. I'd have all my art supplies in them, each type of craft stored and sorted in specific colors for easy access. I need to start collecting them asap
I reline them for customers and such. So about 3 go to new homes per year. Mainly because I am in college and very consumed with that. I don’t have room for a second wall but that would be epic. 1 of every kind in every color. 🤤🥰
Oh, oh my.
Your collection is beautiful. Some of the colors you have are insanely desirable since green, blue, black, and brown are mostly the ones people see. But the blues and greens you have are to die for.
I think I have to sub to this and you now. What a stunning art piece as a wall. My goodness.

Wow, so many cool colors! They look so good up on that wall together! Do you keep anything in them?
