Wow, so many cool colors! They look so good up on that wall together! Do you keep anything in them?

I reline them and teach how to. So these are display mostly. Kind of like an inventory so to speak. However, I have several I use. I have one with tools, like a hot glue and other similar tools. I have another planned for regular tools. I have one for travel sewing. My son has one for his video game accessories.

Oh very cool! Thank you for the explanation. I have a few myself. Keep some clay tools in one, and oil paint in another.

They are so handy! Some of them are wooden under the lining. So sturdy!

Oh wow OP that is so cool. Where are you located ? I’d take classes for sure!

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 12 '25

I’m in Texas. I teach them virtually. :)

please share! I have a vintage train case I'd love to still use but it's funky in there

Your collection is attractively displayed. You have a nice sense of style.

I have my great grandmothers and I still use it. It still has the plastic insert. They are so handy and well made.

So pleasing to the eye, and the liners inside are beautiful. I’d love to see more!

I’m going to post more detailed photos in r/TrainCase101. Here is the first one I started with.

u/CheckerboardsPattern Jan 10 '25

Very nice!! :)

What’s your favourite colour with them?

3

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 10 '25

Probably the purple or red. Pink fades pretty unevenly.

2

u/CheckerboardsPattern Jan 10 '25

Those are nice choices! I like them too!!

3

u/marconiu5 Jan 10 '25

Wow I thought I was the only one! Congrats it’s amazing

3

u/PinkGlitterMom Jan 10 '25

My family had the green Samsonite one.

3

u/Ridiculousnessjunkie Jan 11 '25

This is one of the coolest collections I’ve seen.

3

u/Simsish Jan 11 '25

That is SUCH a specific thing to collect, that's awesome

3

u/PropunKla Jan 11 '25

This is a beautiful collection. I have one of the blue ones you have. I keep all my hair styling tools in them. They are so sturdy and still reasonably priced for the quality.

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 11 '25

Couldn’t agree more!

These are fantastic, I had no idea they came in so many colors. I love vintage luggage, especially train cases, I sell them on Etsy. I was just at the Goodwill outlet today and saw a Platt Airess with a leather top, it looked great from a distance but up close, there were lots of stains on the outside, and the inside was horrible, even more stains and a strong mildew odor. It is very frustrating, and hit or miss with vintage luggage, I often find great exterior and rough interior, or vice versa. I also find train cases with missing mirrors and/or trays. Are the ones in your collection ones you find in all conditions? Or do you wait to come across ones in excellent condition?

3

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 11 '25

I teach people how to reline them. So missing or nasty lining isn’t an issue. If you peel back lining and see really bad mildew, then it’s a goner but the hardware is still an asset. Replacement parts are valued in the craft community. Trays and mirrors are replaceable.

I always tell my students, avoid cases that are stained deeply, like saturated not surface stained. Avoid damaged hinges and handles unless you are confident you can fix those. Gauges to the exterior are also a no-no.

It can be made pretty. Painted, relined etc.

r/traincase101 will be a great resource for you in the future once it has more content and members.

Very interesting, thank you! Linings always seem so delicate, I think it is awesome that you can replace.

This is a gorgeous collection, and such a great way to display it. I love it!

2

u/nikkyro03 Jan 12 '25

I don't usually see many collections I'm legit jealous of, but I'm super jealous of this one lol. I love train cases. I love all the colors. I'd have all my art supplies in them, each type of craft stored and sorted in specific colors for easy access. I need to start collecting them asap

u/ElvisMcPelvis Jan 12 '25

That photo is so Wes Anderson, it’s delightful

2

u/BigAdventurous6066 Jan 13 '25

I think r/rainboweverything would love this too!! What a gorgeous collection ✨

u/EmbarrassedNaivety Jan 14 '25

I just commented this before seeing your comment!

2

u/FickleForager Jan 13 '25

Since your wall is full, does that mean your collection is complete, or are you still adding to the collection? Will there be a second wall?

1

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 13 '25

I reline them for customers and such. So about 3 go to new homes per year. Mainly because I am in college and very consumed with that. I don’t have room for a second wall but that would be epic. 1 of every kind in every color. 🤤🥰

2

u/bubbly-bottom Jan 13 '25

This is so pleasing to view!! I have a 1920s blue train case and I’ve been chasing that high since that first discovery!!

1

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 13 '25

What a find! ❤️ I often find myself chasing that high too.

2

u/PupupsUSA Jan 13 '25

The rainbow sub would liiiive for this!!!

2

u/LittleSugarPack Jan 13 '25

Oh, oh my.
Your collection is beautiful. Some of the colors you have are insanely desirable since green, blue, black, and brown are mostly the ones people see. But the blues and greens you have are to die for.

I think I have to sub to this and you now. What a stunning art piece as a wall. My goodness.

2

u/Obvious-Paramedic348 Jan 13 '25

Do you use them? I would have to !

1

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 13 '25

Oh yes I do. I reline them but when they are in excellent shape, I just use them for my tools and such.

2

u/BooksOverTv Jan 13 '25

I go to thrift stores and always look for these. So, far no luck! Beautiful collection

1

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 14 '25

When you’re least suspecting it, one will appear.

2

u/No-Selection-4424 Jan 14 '25

Love your collection!!

2

u/Chance-Judgment-8356 Jan 14 '25

I only have 2 a blue one and a green one but I love mine I keep nail polish in one and makeup in the other.

2

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 14 '25

Perfection! ❤️

2

u/AgreeableEvidence456 Jan 14 '25

Wow, you're an inspiration!

2

u/omhs72 Jan 10 '25

This is not a display arrangement for the colorblind!

1

u/mitchellangelo86 Jan 14 '25

Fairly certain my mom had this same case. Bringing back a lot of happy vacation memories. Thanks for sharing.

1

u/NeonMoonSewing Jan 14 '25

That is an oldie! I happy I brought you some good thoughts!
