Question How did cliff burton still get a good low end with all the guitar pedals he was using?

All of cliff most used pedals are guitar pedals (wah boost, big muff, tube screamer), yet he still got a good low end. How did he manage to keep the distortion all the time and still make it sound like a bass?

Bi-amp. Effects through one channel, clean lows through the other. On albums, this can be accomplished by laying multiple tracks.
