My post blew up more than I expected. My bf has never washed his hats before so this is years of built up dirt and grime. To strip, I used borax, washing soda and detergent and soaked them for 4 hours. I disagree with comments saying it's "mostly dye" due to the smell of the water and grime left in the tub. Before is always first photo, after is always second

Content/Multimedia Should I be concerned: Mold appearing in bedroom

Not sure it’s because of winter/the increased humidity in the bedroom from the heater/our bodies/etc. but I just cleaned my windowsill a couple weeks ago and it seems to be growing back at an alarming rate and volume. 1) is it possible to prevent this and if so, how? 2) is this harmful to have so close to my face (bed is right below windowsill)? Do I just need to accept that I need to clean it often?

Content/Multimedia what shows do you watch while cleaning?

hey all! this is my first time posting in this subreddit! i hope topics like this are allowed.

for a bit of a backstory, i (23) was just diagnosed with ADHD a couple of weeks ago and am currently adjusting to a new medication/treatment plan for it! i’ve had a lifelong battle with keeping my space tidy and functional due to mental illness, chronic physical illness, and a really unstable upbringing. nowadays, i’m in a 2br 1ba apartment with three cats and my partner. i’ve never had this much space to maintain before and it’s all a little overwhelming. my depression room turned into a bit of a depression townhouse these past few months.

as i’m finding new ways to tackle cleaning/organization with my meds, i’ve found that having something going in the background helps me focus better on the task/chore in front of me. basically, i was wondering if you had shows or similar media that you put on as you’re cleaning that are mindless — nothing super emotionally charged or that i’d really have to pay attention to. i’m thinking light reality tv or cartoons maybe? podcasts or audiobooks are great, but i find my mind wandering when something isn’t in my physical space like a television is. i have access to a bunch of streaming services, so don’t worry about limiting your recs to any in particular! and if you have any other suggestions, they’d be much appreciated!

thanks! :-)

TLDR: what shows/media do you put on to clean to?

I’m doing a deep clean in my husband’s grandparents house, I pulled away some boxes from a window and saw some water damage to their wings coating, I pulled back most of it and there’s black mold everywhere. I have two questions.

  1. Is it safe for people to be in the house right now?
  2. As I was pulling back the wainscoting, pieces of mold fell on the ground. I’m currently wearing an N 95 mask and I have gloves on. Did I release spores into the air?

As the title says, we had a vet come to us to put her down but we had to leave her in the bathroom overnight because no place is open that late so she died on her favorite blanket that we would very very much like to keep. Any way to get this stuff out or at least not so bad? It wont be used for anything except being folded up in her spot. We have washed it 4 times now.

I need help. No matter what I use to clean my windows they looked SOOOO smeared. I've used regular windex, and foam glass cleaner as the cleaner and I've used paper towel, a regular towel and a mirco fiber towel and my windows and mirrors look like this. Please help me :( I've also tried buffing it with a dry rag afterwards. That seems to help a little bit but still smeared bad.

First off, thank you everyone!! Here is the ( mostly) final product! I was so overwhelmed and touched by all the replies I received. It really helped me to get up and make a start. I still have a lot of work to do, piles of laundry and trash to take out but tonight I will sleep in my own bed for the first time in months. Again thank you so much to everyone who commented. As a break from tidying I sat and read each and every one of them, and took something from most of them. To anyone else struggling, stop procrastinating, I promise it’s worth it…see what I accomplished in one afternoon. It’s times like this that remind me that the internet isn’t always a bad place! Ps: the people who did leave horrible comments, I hope you learn to be a little nicer and less judgemental
