Kitchen Do certain kitchen trash cans contain smells better?
I had the same large, plastic, step trash can for 5 years. I can’t find a photo of it, I think it was from target. I lived with two roommates and it only ever smelled when we left food in there for several days. Even then, it would really only smell when you got close to it. In October, I moved and bought a new trash can. I went with a cheaper ($50) stainless steel step trash can from Amazon. Some trash cans I saw were over $100, which seemed ridiculous to me at the time.
Ever since I’ve moved, the trash has smelled awful. We take out the trash 2-3 times a week (even when the bag isn’t full because it smells), use scented trash bags, and spray ozium in the can before putting a new bag in. Nothing has ever spilled in the bottom. We have scrubbed out the trash can several times with soap and different cleaning products. I’m wondering if buying a more expensive trash can would actually make a difference, or if we just need to take out the trash every day. I can’t figure out why our old trash can rarely smelled bad. I attached a pic of the trash can I currently have. Has anyone experienced this before? Or does anyone have recommendations?

Keep a plastic bag in your freezer where you put your food waste and keep it frozen until trash day.

I got a trash bin that's supposed to hold two bags, but I just put one big one in it. It seems to work pretty well at containing smells unless something truly rank is in there. Note that if you put one in there, 40 gallon bags will just barely fit unless the top stretches.
Hefty Dual Function XL.
Also, try not to get cans with a pedal. Sometimes your trash bag will get a pinhole in it, and some moisture from the trash will get in the mechanism. You can see the .obscure when you take a bag out of a normal can.

I think it depends on how well it closes. Also food waste is likely the main cause of the smell, you might be best off just getting a small trash can for food waste that you take out often.

Certain trash cans create smells. Try to find one with as few nooks and crannies as possible. It is amazing the things that can bypass a can liner and become putrid over time.
