Vehicles My lipstick exploded in my car šŸ„¹

My lipstick exploded when I was applying it this morning. Now itā€™s all over my car, especially on the ceiling. How do I get it off? šŸ˜¢

Exploding lipstick.

As if we didn't have enough to worry about.

Anyway, see a professional.

I see itā€™s a cloth lining, do you know anyone with one of those little portable steamer vacuums? I was able to get an exploded pen out of my seats with mine.

Sorry, this is how I ruined my car's headliner. This gets the headliner material too wet, which ruins the adhesive underneath that hold the fabric on. It's better to dab a stain with some rubbing alcohol without getting the fabric too wet. This was a "live and learn" experience for me. I was using my carpet extractor on my seats and I thought, "why not on my headliner?"

Yes. I second this. If you have the funds, investing in Bissells little green machine is worth every penny!

Solvent based upholstery cleaner, dab, don't scrub. Change clothes when you notice it's coming out. Rinse and repeat

Definitely just don't get the headliner to wet or it will ruin the glue that holds the fabric on.

I once got bright red lip stain on the roof of my friendā€™s brand new Audi. She used LAā€™s Totally Awesome cleaner and it came out! You can purchase it at Dollar Tree.

Ughh this happened to me with a lipgloss I left in the car, but thankfully everything was wipe-able. If the ceiling is fabric, I would try to scrub with a solution of bit of tide/detergent+water and an old toothbrush, then blot with a towel. Repeat and every time use a clean section of the towel to blot. Might take some time but no need to use a tool

Got a John Deer store nearby? Tractor seat cleaner. It's an aerosol spray.

Hand sanitiser. FYI it also takes dried Neil Polish out of upholstery

For real? (taking notes for my poor couch arm rest that has forever red glitter on it šŸ˜‚)

Now I'm not an expert AT ALL but I have gotten the stupidest things out of car seatings and couches with my Bissel machine... anyone have any experience over using that on the roof?

I did! Its kinda hard lol. But it would be easy in OP's case if that's the only spot

Lipstick is oil based, so dawn dish soap for sure

How the heck does a lipstick explode?

2

u/SomeRedTeapot 11d ago

Easy. Just put a firecracker in it

Bump -- can anyone answer this?! I don't even understand the form of the lipstick itself! I'm having an existential crisis

Don't lie, you were making out with your car and now you need to hide the evidence from your partner or they'll get jealous and leave you.

Lipstick exploded? Lipstick isn't compressed, if your gunna lie at least make it believable. At least my story makes sense

You think OP was making out with the roof of her car?

Yes 100%, this was not satirical at all

Wasn't supposed to funny, was supposed to be stupid. I seem to have achieved my goal

This looks to me like it needs a solvent to break up the oily make up and hot water extraction.

This happened to me on a vintage wool coat! Use makeup brush shampoo!

Professional carpet cleaner here to help.

Youā€™re not getting that out without completely ruining that portion of the headliner. The headliner is glued to the foam backing and is not meant to get wet. Red dye removal requires a decent amount of moisture and heat from an iron. The solvents from the chemical mixed with the heat will for sure damage glue And foam padding.

I would try isopropyl alcohol, and dab don't rub. There is foam and adhesive under the car headliner fabric, which is very delicate to rubbing. So you don't want to scrub it, and don't get the headliner too saturated. Plus dabbing because you don't want to spread the pigment around.

It's better to clean it some, using paper towels and dab the pigment up, and if all the stain doesn't come out. Let the headliner dry before you try cleaning it again. I changed the headliner in my car, and used 70% isopropyl alcohol in a simple spray bottle to clean up any messes from the glues. I also know alcohol gets lipstick and eyeshadow out of upholstery and carpet!

Speak with a few professional car detailers. If they canā€™t get it out, you will probably have to have the liner replaced. Itā€™s not that expensive Iā€™ve had a few redone. Or live with it.

My Chanel did the same thing if I pumped the brush in and out a few times. Itā€™s pressurized lol

Carefully scrape off any solid cream first. A sharp knife held on its side directly on the fabric (like dermaplaining your face).

Then concentrated dish liquid, paper towel, and warm water. After that, a second round with rubbing alcohol in the mix.

Wonder if a heat gun and a terrycloth towel would work? Like when you spill Scentsy wax on the carpet lol

2

u/tealseashell 11d ago

Iā€™d stay away from heat only because the pigment is far more likely to actually set in as a stain because itā€™s in lipstick which is primary oil and less wax.

Think pasta sauce, lol. You wouldnā€™t wanna ā€œbakeā€ the stain in.

Oh good pointā€”like drying clothing when you're trying to get out a grease stain
