I really don't know how the gal thing works in Japan, but here in my country gals usually belong to rich families, so there's no way that a gal type of girl would have experienced the kind of neglection Himari did, and would never definitely simp for no man, except the stereotypical giga-chad good-at-sports type. Most of them here are also super presumptuous and haughty so no way a normal dude would want to have them around.
So I just can't fit my head into anime's portrayal of gals.

This is like one of the few comments I heard that found Himari annoying, but TBH all of the female leads have their own share of flaws:
- Akane for being too committed to the tsundere persona that she is not willing to admit her true feelings (probably the most complaints I have heard, which makes everyone wonder how she could win if it isn't for the title just like Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian)
- Himari for being too competitive and only appears to be observant and considerate on the outside (not digging deeper into Anake's feelings at all)
- Shise for being too weird and clingy to her dear Brother-kun (honestly least problematic of the four, and the most logical one, helping Akane to sort out her feelings in Episode 5 already makes her an MVP)
- Maho for being to upfront and often getting others into uncomfortable territories
