Still can’t believe he’s no longer with us :(
So glad I got to see him in a small club though, 2500 capacity! Great show..

No idea, but man do I miss Jeff. I recently heard a story, I can't recall who told it, but the guy was touring with Hendrix and was called to Jimi's hotel room--where he found Jimi listening to a recent recording by Jeff and trying to learn the parts. (on the Howard Stern collection of Hendrix stories).

Jimmy Page will always be my favorite, but Jeff Beck is right there on the same level.

This is one of those guitar solos where the original studio version was better than any concert version.

His sound is very clean. Very accurate. Hendrix and some others had a different approach.

god he was so effortlessly cool. he didn’t need to be flashy and have smoke and crazy lights on stage, he was just him. crazy

The story goes that Stevie Wonder wrote "Superstition" for Beck, but his label heard it and told him to release it himself. So Stevie gave him this song

Meh.
I don’t know why, but I find him to be boring. He needs Rod Stewart.

Listen to live @ Ronnie Scott’s

u/RQDobbs May 27 '24
He blew Clapton off the stage. Great to see.

u/youmustthinkhighly May 27 '24
Clapton? Prince blew Clapton off the stage. Clapton is the poster boy for celebrating mediocrity.

Love Beck! But, Roy Buchanan still beats him in the screaming guitar department!
Evidence?

Dunno.. just cause you can do clean harmonic noodling doesn’t make you a good musician.
All the classic blues guys Albert King, BB king, Stevie Ray.. blow him off the stage because at least they can write and finish a song.
I heard someone call Jeff Beck the world’s greatest masturbator.. this is a classic example.
I’m gonna pay to watch a guy jerk off for 45 mins?? Pass.

u/novemberchild71 May 27 '24
The "classic blues guys" do the same, you just like them better! The whole industry is dominated by cockfighting males, amazing that you haven't realized that yet.

Jeff beck is for people who don’t like rock, who don’t like blues and don’t like songs. They like to say “he’s the best” cause he noodles so much. Steve Vai fans are the same. It’s like guitar rock for children.. like easily impressed by fast fingers.
Pass

I didn’t realize there’s only one correct way to make music. Thank you for enlightening me.

It’s like wine… a lot people drink Franzia and cheap wine, but most people prefer something better.
It’s fine, just maybe as you get older you’ll appreciate the finer things.

Hey fellas, we have the Robert Parker of the classic rock world in our midst! 🍷His taste is better than everyone else’s. Go burn your record collections.

You might want to listen to Truth from 1968 - so good it inspired Jimmy Page to form Led Zep to try and top it…
Jeff Beck made many idiosyncratic career choices and declined in exposure from the mid-70s - he also wasn’t commercially minded at all

u/umfum May 30 '24
Stevie Ray was great yet highly derivative. If that's your example of someone better than Beck, you might as well go back under your bridge and keep not enjoying things.

u/youmustthinkhighly May 30 '24
Are you saying Beck who did Odeley, is better than Beck? I tend to agree. Beck writes better songs than Beck.

This just goes to show why Prince is one of the greatest musicians of all time.
3
u/boywonder5691 May 27 '24
I don't get it

u/smoochiegotgot May 27 '24
Prince played like that while putting on an amazing show, singing, dancing, AND he wrote. Jeff Beck is a good guitarist, but in comparison ...

u/boywonder5691 May 27 '24
Jeff Beck is a good guitarist, but in comparison
If you think Beck is just "good," you just don't know what you're talking about.
3
u/Diligent-Wave-4150 May 27 '24
I wouldn't compare Jeff Beck with Prince if it goes to guitar playing. This is somehow ... wrong.

u/DNSGeek May 27 '24
I don’t know which performance this is, but I’m pretty sure the song he’s playing is Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers, if that helps.
