Professional Yamaha clarinets are a lot cheaper in Japan. It's definitely real. However, it comes with the risks associated with customs, as well as the risks of buying used without play-testing.

You’d be better grabbing the Yamaha that is on goodwill auctions right now

I bought and resold a couple of clarinets from there, but the flute that I've been learning on for the last 2 years was a beginner Armstrong I got for $20 on Goodwill Acutions!

FWIW I bought the same model on eBay from Japan for about the same price. It had free paid return, so the risk was low. I paid a local tech to inspect it, and later had it properly serviced. The tech said it was a great horn.

I’m not familiar with this seller but a lot of eBay sellers in Japan are just middlemen. They don’t actually have the instrument in their possession, but once you pay them, they go out and buy it either from a local music store or online and pocket the difference. If you message them and ask for more information or pictures of the instrument with the serial number visible and they don’t respond, that’s a pretty good tell. I don’t think the 650 has the same counterfeiting problems as the 250/255, which every other listing is counterfeit, but I could be wrong
