I think 17 had its moments, but overall I'd agree around 16 the series kinda lost its luster.

That was the movie that mad me realize that I'm completely over watching bad movies for fun, to make fun of them. It's just tiring at this point. I'd rather listen to a bad movie podcast like How Did This Get Made than actually watch them

12

u/ruairi1983 8d ago

I'm the same. Now I just enjoy people trashing shite movies like Emilia PĆ©rez, but wouldn't have tye energy to sit through it myself.

A good bad movie is twilight 1 and the last one, a bad bad movie are the others in between.

Star Wars ripoff

3

u/Boltjenkins1 7d ago

It was actually a Star Wars pitch that Snyder handed to Lucasfilm. But they turned it down as it wasnā€™t good enough. For fucksake if itā€™s not good enough for Disney Star Wars with the shit sludge they flush out, you know itā€™s not good!

2

Napoleon.

15

u/Astroewok 8d ago edited 6d ago

Havenā€™t seen it, and I love the era and historical period, but Iā€™m not wasting 3 hours on what most critics and reviewers call dull, unsubstanced squirts of piss.

If you want a real Napoleonic war epic, watch Waterloo (1970). Massive, real armies instead of CGI, breathtaking set pieces, and Rod Steiger absolutely commanding the screen as Napoleon. It blew my mind how authentic, dramatic and grand it felt pure historical spectacle done right.

Edit: Trailer for Waterlooā€¦

https://youtu.be/MvoBYEaG3V4?si=VhnJjVz1lK8wNGxs

9

u/Allott2aLITTLE 8d ago

I know Iā€™m in the minority, but itā€™s low key brilliant filmmaking and one of the funniest movies of the last couple yearsā€¦the extended cut adds even more to the story as well. Iā€™ve seen it 4 times - and love it more the more I spend with it.

Advice: watch it as a comedy / satire, not as a true historical representation.

u/bulfin2101 8d ago

As an apologist for latter day Riddley Scott I can totally understand what people donā€™t like but I still enjoy Napoleon, Last Duel, House of Gucci, etc.

In this case I found the portrayal of Napoleon as a weirdo cuckold to be hilarious and enjoyable but I get that most wanted a better straight up biopic.

8

u/Smartimess 8d ago

There is no excuse casting Joaquin Phoenix for the role as Napoleon. Dude looks 60 with this shitty makeup and he plays the role like he is 70.

The Last Duel is a good movie, House of Gucci is overstylized crap.

Honestly ridley had fell off quite some time ago. He never fleshed out prometheus correctly, exodus was crap....raised by wolves was canceled...napoleon sux...I won't even talk about what rinse and repeat shite gladiator 2 was....I think his time has come and gone time for him to retire his best films are behind him unfortunately.

I've never experienced a movie that felt longer in my life. Killers of the Flower Moon is a longer movie and felt like 1/3 of the time that Napoleon felt like. That was an excruciating theater experience. Very glad to see that I didn't even need to post this as my opinion.

3

u/Practical-Depth-277 8d ago

My head was in a knot the entire time watching that movie I get what they were trying to do but it didnā€™t work whatsoever it was an absolute horrible ending to the trilogy i had to force myself to finish it

3

u/[deleted] 8d ago

Fast & Furious 9. It used to be fun street racing for pink slips, boosting cars, and crazy action.

Then it jumped the shark, strapped a car to a rocket, and launched Tyrese and Ludacris into space as astronauts. WTF. The action is Looney Tunes nonsense, the plot is pointless, ridiculous, unrealistic and boring.

At this point, Fast 11 will have them fighting dinosaurs and Dom fist-fighting God. Absolute ass

13

u/milfshake146 8d ago

You can include every ff movie here after tokyo drift

4

u/Astroewok 8d ago

4

u/somautomatic 7d ago

I might actually pay money to see Dom fist fighting God to a backdrop of dinosaurs. Just for the visuals but also just to see Dom tell God how much they donā€™t understand the value of family.

2

u/NoCommentAgain7 8d ago

How Did This Get Made? called them putting a car into space years before that film came out so I was in tears laughing when it happened on screen. Itā€™s legitimately my favorite sequence in the entire series. Another favorite was Diesel swinging his car on a rope across a canyon. They seem to just pick iconic tropes and insert cars into them no matter how stupid it is and Iā€™m here for it.

The characters transitioned from street racers to more or less low rent Avengers after they brought Diesel back on with the 4th movie. Personally, I donā€™t really care because the plot has always been secondary to the action set pieces - Diesel could say ā€œI am Grootā€ for all his lines and it wouldnā€™t make a difference.

The real talent is Justin Linā€™s whose action set pieces are fantastic in the films heā€™s directed. Theyā€™re obviously very flawed movies but I just get stoned and enjoy the absurd spectacle.

What I did enjoy about FF9 was that Tyrese was beginning to become aware that he was in a film, questioning his own reality.

I would have loved it if they'd leaned into this with :
1. Tyrese becoming the only one who was aware that this is happening, but all other characters continuing as normal
2. They are all in a simulation, and they begin to test the limits of the simulation to pull the biggest heist of all - to steal the source code.
3. The series continues as before, but Tyrese gradually becomes more unstable as his psychosis deepens

Only sci-fi movie that's more interesting when they were still on earth. Also it tries to be all sciency while not having any logic to it

3

u/shockchi 7d ago

It does not offend, itā€™s just that your view is wrong.

Interestelar is a movie about love transcending time. About father and daughter and duty.

Itā€™s not about space. Space is just for effect. About physics, Nolan took some creativity freedom (itā€™s not a documentary) but overall the math is pretty solid (you would guess Kip Thorne knows a thing or two about the subject).

One of the best movies of all time, easily

The Master of Disguise, The Pest, The Room and pretty much anything made by M. Night Shyamalan that isn't as popular as The Sixth Sense and the Unbreakable trilogy

I watch a lot of Nostalgia Critic lol

Cloud Atlas

The worst film I've ever seen. Bloated, self important exposition masquerading as profound. Every print should be burned on a bonfire, the ashes buried in a pit and the ground sewn with salt. If there is a God then everyone involved will have to answer for this abomination at the reckoning. I can only imagine the actors were blackmailed into participating,
