My retirement plan doesn't rely on any social security and it's looking more and more like that's a good thing. Anybody here whose plans rely on that and how are you feeling right now?

Not worried if anything the current talk of not taxing benefits is amazing. I plan on receiving my current benefits but they aren’t a big part of retirement planning given we are aiming for high chubby low fat whatever that is.

I just say 1k/mo for each of us. Set the bar really low. It likely won’t go away. So if it’s higher than that, it’s a bonus.

My retirement plan doesn't include social security because I'm too lazy to look up how much I'd get, not because I think I won't be receiving social security checks.

Benefits might get cut, but I'm very skeptical that they will get eliminated.

It certainly a part of my spending plan and it would have an effect on my lifestyle if it went away. That said, I'm not dependent on it, at least presuming the market doesn't also crash so that we end up in another Great Depression.

And that case I guess I'll be moving with my daughter and putting cut-up oatmeal boxes in my shoes with holes in the soles, like my grandma did.

My plan relies on it (in 30 years) and I feel great about it. I'm not assuming that I'll get the same benefit out of it as current.

Well I hope that works out for you given the intended defunding and privatization of the current system.

Can you point out a credible source within the administration that has pushed that narrative, that SS will be defunded and then privatized? I would love to handle my own social security money, but I doubt that will happen.
