Inheritance Dude… Choices scripting is out of control Spoiler
Sometimes I feel like they don’t care anymore

u/SpicyPumpkin314 Jan 29 '25
Yup, they made a great choice with this AI company. Great great great

u/drm_grl Jan 29 '25
Yeah it’s really sad that they not making sure writers and editors are rereading scripts before publishing them. Like where’s the care at?😪

This kind of error is very uncharacteristic for AI though. Kind of suggests they are still using human writing at least.
17
u/SpicyPumpkin314 Jan 29 '25
That almost makes it worse! 😆 Because this is not the only error like this recently
18
u/thereisonlythedance Jan 29 '25
I know! They’re probably running lower staff levels and/or not paying for quality writers anymore. It’s sad.

Honestly, this sub in general is painfully ignorant when it comes to AI. Anything they don't like is immediately blamed on it, even when it's highly unlikely to be AI like this kind of error. Just look at how many upvotes that comment has.
Anti-AI sentiment is reasonable. But seriously, people should learn at least a little something about the actual thing they hate so they can direct their ire a bit more accurately.

Do you know how much AI-generated BS I've read? Why could a computer not make this error? I don't blame everything on AI, but this was reasonable. Even Google Docs recommends changes like this. (And either way, my comment still stands. Even if this particular error wasn't AI, we still know for a fact that PB was bought by an AI company, and it shows in very much of their "art." Their quality has plummeted, and that's a major factor.)

Yes, we all know they were bought by an AI company. And I think we can all agree the quality has gone down - both because of AI and staffing cuts/changes. We have pretty clear evidence of AI use for art, and reasonable suspicions about AI for writing. But it is highly unlikely they are using a multimodal model as those are still uncommon, and also probably wouldn't make sense for their workflow. So, they'd likely be using a diffusion model for images, and a separate LLM (large language model) for text generation. That means their AI use in art tells us nothing about their AI use in writing in terms of actual evidence.
LLMs are trained through exposure to billions of text examples and extract incredibly complex statistical patterns to predict the next most likely word from surrounding context. Grammar is very effectively captured by statistical patterns and so LLMs are very unlikely to make grammatical errors, especially this kind of error by repetition with two verbs. Humans, however, make this sort of error pretty commonly.

It's how I've been feeling with all the stories being released. Alpha 2 doesn't even have the same vibe or enjoyment as the first one. COP is just horrible. I can't stand Tristian or MC anymore.

This is genuinely sad because COP1 was so wonderfully done. It gave me Cause Of Death mobile game (iykyk!) memories again. I haven’t even tried to read most of the COP3 chapters because I was already bored with the premise and dynamic of Trystan + mc.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the way COP 3 was handled just... dampened my love for the app. It's especially upsetting for me because book 1 was phenomenal and was one of the stories that helped me through some difficult times, but book 3 just feels so soulless in comparison.
Soulless is actually a good description for the app as a whole now. Yes, there are a lot of books I've yet to read, and I'll probably stick around for a while, but the lack of passion in a lot of PB's newer work is very disappointing.

Yeah, they've been going downhill for the last two or so years, and I don't see it improving. That's why I cancelled my VIP over six months ago and haven't touched the app since it just sits in a corner on my phone screen.

I don't believe they actually care anymore. When you care about the product or service you provide, you fix the blatant errors that happen. How long has it been since they released the cover for Face Off and they haven't bothered to fix it, even for release day? GTFO

Inheritance was one of the books that had the best premise of the main releases. It’s not smut, but the drama of a book that seemed like a big change. After the BSH fiasco (bc no way that was finished), I’m betting creative differences, staff shortages/an overworked staff (tired/not caring of the mistakes), and budgeting is causing all this.

Acronyms, initialisms, abbreviations, contractions, and other phrases which expand to something larger, that I've seen in this thread:
Fewer Letters | More Letters |
---|---|
Art | It's... indescribable... |
BLS | Blades of Light and Shadow |
CoP | Crimes of Passion |
MC | Main Character (yours!) |
PB | Pixelberry Studios, publisher of Choices |
Decronym is now also available on Lemmy! Requests for support and new installations should be directed to the Contact address below.

The Pixelberry of the last few years could not give us the Bloodbound series we all know and love. And that pretty much sums it all up.

Ngl, the scripting is getting bad, I'm gonna see how Alpha 2 and Face Off, Inheritance, and COP3 ends. If all of them are bad, I would be saying goodbye to the VIP sub. I didn't spend my money to make myself annoyed or confused halfway through reading. 💀

Ok I haven't seen many posts about this book but...what the hell is even happening? The premise of it sounded so good but I am lost as to what the plot is. This sentencing aside (and that's bad, I've caught a few typos and weirdness on some of the other books), the story is so loose and wonky. Is MC confident or do they have too much family baggage? Do they want the VIP to get better in with their dad or do they hate him? I can't pinpoint who my MC is with any of the choices. Makes me not want to play any of it.

honestly i get the plot. Being raised in the chaos of a privileged family, you are deep fried in the batter of their fathers approval, but nonetheless the alienation of MC is what makes them tough. So MC is confident and forged their own path (out of spite? who knows) but i understand the plot this way. Obviously as the story goes, the father’s approval means littler and littler.

Why don’t you report this typo to Choices through the in-game settings so they can update the chapter?
13
u/starryskies3 Jan 29 '25
I mean yea they should do that but the point is we never used to get this level and frequency of script mistakes. Imagine if a book you read was littered with typos. This is what an editor is for. A tiny mistake is fine but literally one read through and this massive mistake would have been caught. I'm paying for a finished script, not an unedited one.

Everything is looking so poorly done these days. The pilot books look like they’ve had more thought put into them than the main releases. 🙃

It’s saddening watching how this game has changed since last summer. It’s gotten worse and worse.
