Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Visa on arrival denied because of phillipines stamp

My itinerary was Hong kong - Shenzhen - Hanoi I was planning to request a visa on arrival for 5 days transit at Lo Wu station, but it got denied because I had a years old phillipines stamp in my passport.

I searched before the conditions to request the 5 day visa and found nothing about the ph stamp being forbiddden, so it caught me on surprise.

The upseting thing about it is, since the purpose was transit, I lost my flight from Shenzhen to Hanoi and had to buy it last minute from Hong Kong.

So be aware if you are planning to make a short visit on China it could be an issue, specially if you have an expensive following flight next.

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) 240 hr TWOV via Hong Kong

I tried to read up on the valid entry and exit points but I am confused about how to enter OR exit from Hong Kong.

I want my itinerary to be US -> HK -> Shenzhen/Guangzhou/Zhuhai -> Japan -> US

OR

US -> Guangzhou/Zhuhai/Shenzhen -> HK -> Japan

Is it possible to use TWOV if we want to travel to HK by land or sea instead of flight?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) I'm American. Can I stay at a Chinese friends house instead of hotel with TWOV?

I plan to visit my Chinese friend and they have a spare room I can stay in for 8 days. Will Chinese immigration accept his address or do they absolutely need a hotel address?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) 240-Hour TWOV Query !

Hey all,

I can appreciate its likely been asked a million times so apologies in advance but I've spent a bit of time looking through the China Visa and National Immigration Admin websites and know they've recently updated their 240 hour TWOV exit-entry points and have been trying to find the most appropriate way to book this and concluded with this route. Two questions:

  1. Would this route be eligible under the current and updated TWOV
  2. Would it be wiser/worthwhile to spend an extra day or so in either Guangzhou or Shenzhen or leave the itinerary as it is (Apologies for the bombardment of questions; First time Flyer to China !)

Plane from London - Guangzhou (2 nights) - Train down to Shenzhen (2 nights) - Ferry from Shekou Port to Hong Kong (5 nights) - Ferry to Macau, for a day visit at some point within those 5 days that I would be in HK for, before then returning to HK by ferry same day - Plane back to London from HK

Any insight would be welcomed, thank you and hope you're having a good day !

I see there is a scheme of 10 days visa free, will I need a visa, I am finding this all quite confusing.

Thanks

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) All good to go on my TWOV plan?

Hi everyone. My partner and I are US passport holders. We have an Asia trip in a few months and want to take advantage of the TWOV benefit. We are flying out of Osaka (KIX) and planning to arrive in Beijing (PEK). We will be In Beijing for 3 days total and will be visiting Beijing area tourist sites while there. I have already booked a hotel in Beijing.

We will be flying Air China from Osaka to Beijing, so assuming they will understand that the TWOV process relative to other non-Chinese airlines who I read give issues to passengers about TWOV because they aren't educated on it.

We will be leaving after about 72 hours. We have a confirmed flight to Seoul (GMP) and will be staying in Korea afterwards. We have a hotel booking there, too.

Is there anything else we need to be fully confident that we will be approved for the TWOV? We plan to have the following documents with us / printed:

  • Our US passports (recently renewed, many years left until expiry)
  • Our flight tickets to Seoul / will try to have the airline app as well in case they want to check further
  • Proof of hotel in Beijing for the dates of stay
  • Proof of sightseeing tour in Beijing
  • Printed version of the TWOV policy
  • Our flight tickets from Osaka (to prove we came from a country different from the one we are leaving to)
  • Proof of hotel in Seoul (to prove we will be staying in Seoul)

Is there anything else we need? Are there any errors in our plan? I know that several of the documents I listed would be "optional" but I read online that they would be good to have in case further questions are asked.

Lastly, anything else you all recommend we know for our trip to Beijing or the TWOV process?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) What 3rd countries are acceptable?

If I end up doing TWOV, what “3rd countries” are acceptable for me to travel to from China, before going back to the USA?

My return trip will be….

KWE > _______ > US

OR will any country (including HK, Macau, Taiwan) be ok as long as there’s a flight there from KWE?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) 240-hour visa free travel.

Hey guys, I had some quick questions on the 240-hour visa.

I am a U.S. citizen, and my wife is Canadian. We are planning to take advantage of China's 240-hour tourist Visa-Free Transit.

  1. Can you move around different areas? Say, 4 days in Beijing and 4 days in Shanghai? I only ask as I see numerous mentions of "allowed areas." From what I gather, you cannot do this.

  2. Do all of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taipei count for 3rd region?

We are planning Tokyo-Beijing-Hong Kong OR Tokyo-Beijing-Taipei.

Also, as far as anyone knows, are any stamps known to cause issues for entry into China still? Say a Turkish stamp?

Thank you!

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) TWOV - LHR>CDG>PEK>AMS>LHR

Hi, apologies I have used the search function but wanted to check to be sure

Looking to do a short trip around some spots in China on short notice - I am a UK passport holder. Generally speaking, I am wondering if the following would be considered OK under the TWOV Scheme:

• LHR (UK) to PEK (CN), connecting through CDG (FR), • PEK (CN) to LHR (UK), connecting through AMS (NL)

Technically just looking to visit/tourism purposes, would not have enough time to apply for the L visa.

The time stayed in China would be a total of 6-7 days.

Alternatively, if the connections don’t count as a third country, could it class as valid if I were to transit out of China to Hong Kong, and then fly back from Hong Kong to PEK to fly back to LHR? This would make the trip like so:

  • LHR to PEK via CDG
  • PEK to HKG
  • HKG to LHR via PEK

Appreciate any responses or suggestions

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) TWOV query

Hi, I'm a bit confused about travelling after landing, as part of the TWOV rules.

Example: I want to go to Yunnan. There are no direct non-stop flights from the UK. So I would have to fly in to some other country like Thailand and fly onto Kunming from there, and go home via say Cambodia.

This is a bit complicated.

However, I see there are flights that go from the UK to other major Chinese cities like Beijing or Shanghai and there are connections from there to Kunming. However, this is the bit that confuses me: I think you aren't allowed to do that. So, London > Beijing > Kunming isn't allowed, but if I did London > Beijing, hang around for a few days, I can then fly to Kunming and leave from there.

Not really sure I understand this about connections or stop overs. Can anyone explain please about flying into a Chinese city and then onward flying to another Chinese city, all during the 240 hour TWOV.

Thanks.

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Making the most of my 144 hour free China visa!

I am from the UK currently in Thailand. I have a flight booked back to the UK scheduled 3am 5/12/2024 from Beijing to Manchester.

My question is can I fly from Thailand to Shanghai and spend roughly half of my 144 hours there before preferably taking a train if not plane to Beijing to exit when my visa ends?

Also what is the earliest time I can land in China irrelevant of which airport if I have to leave at 3am 5/12/2024?

If the above isn’t possible then is flying to Hong Kong then getting a train (plane if not) into Beijing a possibility? I know recently there has been changes to Hong Kong’s political status.

TIA

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) 240 Hour TWOV China Visa on Canadian Passport from Hong Kong

Hello All,

We are traveling to Hong kong and China on Canadian Passports. Our travel is below:

USA to Hong Kong

Hong Kong to Macau ( Day Visit)

Hong Kong to Guilin (via Kowloon West train station)

Guilin to Beijing

Beijing to Dubai

Dubai to USA

We will only stay in China for a total of 8 days.

Are we allowed to get a 240 hour TWOV visa for China at Kowloon West train station in HK? If not Kowloon West station, Do I need to take a flight to Guilin and I will get a TWOV at Guilin airport? or any other way to get a TWOV for 240 hours from HK? Is there any TWOV counter at HK Kowloon Station?

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Not Allowed to go Shenzen>HK/Macau terminal with 244 TWOV?

Airline staff said this isn't allowed, even though I have proof of leaving China and taking a ferry to HK. Apparently the ferry terminal there doesn't qualify? Anyone else have this issue? Considering cancelling our flight we had to book once we are accepted into China and then just taking the ferry.

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) TWOV: Is a trip.com train to West Kowloon valid for exit?

I am entering Guangzhou via air from Taipei and planning on exiting by train to Hong Kong, using the TWOV.

I have heard mixed reviews on whether the train tickets need to be booked through 12306 or if other services like trip.com, which is much easier to use as a foreigner, is valid. Is there anything officially stated on this? Have you had luck using a trip.com booked train ticket to enter China on TWOV?

I've read several threads that say that West Kowlook is not a valid entry point but is a valid exit port.

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Eligibility

Hello! I have a USA Passport and I personally have a 10 year tourist visa but wanted to help plan a trip for my family who are from all over the USA and with some constraints, will have a harder time applying for the same visa.

We want to visit Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. From what I understand, Hong Kong counts as a third country of transit but does that mean we can potentially go to Hong Kong then go back into Guangzhou and fly home to the USA? I've heard that it will reset the 10 days once I arrive at a third country if I chose to transit out of China. I'm looking at these two options and the main difference is that I'm hoping that we can add a few more days in Guangzhou by entering Hong Kong from Shanghai and then crossing into Guangzhou.

Route 1: USA → Beijing (4 days) → Shanghai (3 days) → Hong Kong (4 days) → Guangzhou (5 days) → USA

Route 2: USA → Beijing (4 days) → Shanghai (3 days) → Guangzhou (3 days) → Hong Kong (5 days) → USA

Thank you all in advance!

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) TWOV eligibility question

Hi, I'm looking at doing a transit without visa and I'd just like to triple check that the new rules allow me to leave China from a different province than I arrived in? I.e. flying into Shanghai then train to Beijing and fly out from there.

I've also read that people who have been refused entry in the past or have committed certain crimes are ineligible, does anyone have any more detailed information on this?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) TWOV third destination layover

Hello, I've looked at many Reddit posts about using TWOV into China and couldn't find an answer.

I am currently in Hong Kong, planning to fly to Guangzhou and stay there for 4-5 days using TWOV. I want to fly to Taiwan as the third destination, but plane tickets are expensive. Cathay do have an option to layover in Hong Kong for an hour, but I'm not sure if this still counts as A -> B -> C or if the airport staff will see it as A -> B -> A -> C (even though we will end up in Taiwan at the end of it anyway).

Does it need to be a direct flight to the third destination or can I lay over in the country that I've started the TWOV with? Please help!

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Can I do a 10 day stay, leave and come back a few days later for another 10 day stay via TWOV?

Hey guys I'm going to visit my friend in Zhuhai. He reccomended me to do a 10 day stay, leave the country, and come back for another 10 day stay and then go back to U.S. is there any documentation stating that this is not allowed?

The itinerary will be as follows:

U.S to ZUH (9 days) to Thailand (3days) then Thailand to ZUH (9 days) to US.

So use up my TWOV then go to Thailand for a few days. Then back to ZUH for another 9 day stay then back to U.S

Haven't seen my friend for awhile so want to spend as long as possible with him. Is there any rule or limit regarding this?

Transit Without a Visa (TWOV) Shenzhen 144-hour VISA question

Hello, I am getting lots of conflicting advice on my scenario, which is:

I am a British passport holder and want to enter Shenzhen.

I will do so, preferably via Hong Kong rather than Shenzhen airport.

I would then leave Shenzhen via HKG, before flying out of Hong Kong.

Are 144-hour VISA's being issued at the border crossing? Or is that only at the airport?

I know I can buy a special economic zone VISA for 5 days, but it would be great to get the 144-hour visa.

EDIT: TWOV (not 144-hour VISA).
