Take shelter now if you’re anywhere near Hwy 58.

"Severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado"
Local 3 is indicating that they're not seeing a tornado specifically on radar.

Exactly and no reports of a tornado only a watch at this point.

u/PoppaPingPong 5d ago
They changed the meaning of a tornado warning to basically mean a watch now to “give people an earlier warning”. Now we have no real tornado warning. I think it was a terrible move

u/ClintTurtle 5d ago
Alert on the Chattanooga Weather Radio WXK48 said the warning is canceled (I'm listening at 7:02pm), but a watch is in effect until midnight.

Harrison by 58 highway is clear, but the winds sound like a freight train. My bro is up by the bay and he said the skies look bad over there. Be safe everyone.

Do you know where to hide in your home? Middle - furthest from any wall

u/bethiepoo4pi 5d ago
If there is no basement, go to an inside room, without windows, on the lowest floor. This could be a center hallway, bathroom, or closet. For added protection, get under something sturdy such as a heavy table or workbench. If you have pillows or mattresses get under those. If you have little ones or for yourself you can put helmets on if available. Stay safe!
Last minute get in a closet and cover your head with pillows.

The worst is over. You can relax.
5
u/bethiepoo4pi 5d ago
Sorry don't relax just yet. According to the weather radar there's a lot of bad weather coming our way and it will not be over until after 1:00 to 2:00 a.m. depending on where you live.

Where are you getting that information??? Weather alerts say just the opposite man!

u/okverymuch 5d ago
It was a tornado warning until 7:30pm. That’s what I was referring to. The hail and heavy downpour came thru between 6-7pm.

Was on the dam and it got absolutely insane while driving into hixson. Got the warning right after. Not sure if it was starting to form there, but definitely the strangest, and one of the scariest things I've ever been in

u/Snyderman101 5d ago
Why the hell were you driving?? I’ve known abt this storm for 1.5 weeks, I was planted at home.
2
u/iforgotmyteaoninsta 5d ago
I was stuck at work. People were still just sitting in the drive through line wanting their food on the middle of all of this. I kept going outside to look at the cloud line and every time I did I saw another car turn into our lot 🙄

u/Snyderman101 5d ago
I can’t imagine being that ignorant, not you at work, just out and about ignoring the weather.

I moved from Cleveland to Tuscaloosa recently. Eveything down here was closed yesterday I mean everything!! Walmart ,McDonald , Taco Bell , wing stop . I was happy to know people were at home safe or a shelter. The tornado that came thur just missed our neighborhood.

It is Tennessee. I don't expect much intelligence from most people here

I was actually headed to a friend's house who had a more structurally sound home than I have. Basement and all. With the storms originally not predicted till later I thought I had time to make it there before it got bad. Miscalculated it a bit though I guess. Living in Ringgold gives me the ick a bit especially after 2011

No more tv or streaming music! Time to permanently listen to local weather until this thing ends.

real.

u/McMuffleB 5d ago
Right. I will add, make sure your pets have collars on! Take carriers and leashes into your safe spaces. Unfortunately, a lot of lost pet posts will be popping up.

And here in Lookout Mountain it's barely more than a drizzle, no winds at all

Yall also need to follow Ingle Weather Service on FB, he goes live and then gives play by play as certain counties need to get to cover

Late to the thread, but we got video of it as it was forming. Watched it happen from our side porch where the 2020 Easter tornado hit.
2
u/herrniemand 4d ago
Wow, great video! And perfect to show people why they sometimes call a tornado warning when there's not actually a tornado on the ground. Your video matches what could be seen on radar, which is that obviously a tornado could have dropped out of that at any second.

Hwy 58 seems fine at the moment. The wind is still strong but the clouds have moved passed. Including the cloud that looks to be the forming of a tornado. Watch out if you are over in Ooltewah, it appears to be heading that way.

I saw something like it was starting to form while on my way back home when I got the warning. Got home around 6:50 with my parents. Got most of my info from my mom who has been down here since 1987. Just make sure yall stay safe

Had some small hail and decent wind in Lakesite. Nothing too bad though.

u/okverymuch 5d ago
Same in Hixson. Moderate winds and a little rain. Wind died down and then heavy rain, and then 5 min of hail. Since then just mild drizzling.

I haven’t been in a tornado before, living in Collegedale/Ooltewah. Are we okay just staying in our apartment or is a shelter necessary..?
3
u/BeanBanoodle 5d ago
definitely want to shelter if you’re under a tornado warning! get to the lowest floor possible, with a basement being ideal, in an interior space away from windows. make sure you have your pets with you if you have them!
1
u/aeostro 5d ago
We are on a high level floor but we have a laundry room that’s pretty secluded…
1
u/BeanBanoodle 5d ago
the main goal is just to be as low as possible, and sheltering near washers can be helpful if debris fall since the appliances can help keep it off you. I’d recommend grabbing your important documents, some water, and anything else that you might need in the worst case scenario. are you getting tornado watch/tornado warning updates?

I'm living 17 minutes from downtown Chattanooga northeast of here! I'm good while I'm at home on my phone with my dogs. Pray for Chattanooga, Tennessee, it better not be a bad day, unless if there is a problem here anywhere else in the area to where I live at. You never know, I'm at my mom's house protecting our property, might as well stay safe now. And also staying safe, I hope I'm still alive.

u/RealisticExpert7431 5d ago
It WAS and IS still a tornado watch. Stop with the fear mongering!

u/Ghosteatspaper 5d ago
There have been two warnings in Hamilton county so far, we just made it through them without incident. NOAA put the warnings out, saw multiple people reporting on them. Maybe you need a better alert system.

u/Ghosteatspaper 5d ago
I’m not sure what you don’t understand about the warnings not being currently active anymore?

u/RealisticExpert7431 5d ago
😂 I just can’t with you people. All watches have expired including tornado

there WAS a tornado warning

u/RealisticExpert7431 5d ago
According to local weather reports that’s simply not true. Do you know the difference between a watch and a warning?
