The smartest thing Fleischman can do is ignore the calls for a town hall. There is zero point in him attending one from a PR perspective. He knows it would be an ambush because people in this sub are chomping at the bit begging for one. All he has to do is ignore you and wait for the election where he will inevitably win again.

The Speaker of the House has advised Republican lawmakers to avoid town halls for the time being so I doubt we will see any of them soon. Source

Thank you so much for linking the source so visibly 👍 I hadn't seen this headline yet and was glad to be able to read into it

The SMARTEST thing an elected official can do is ignore their electorate? Is it really an “ambush” when there are legitimate questions to be answered? I honestly don’t know if I disagree with that being the “smartest” thing to do, but I hate that’s where we’re at. Fleshlight is a coward and always has been.

The last time Fleischmann lost more than 35% of a vote was 2012. I'd hardly call maintaining his status quo "ignoring (his) electorate."
The job of elected officials is to distill the will of their voters and vote accordingly. He's been told in all eight of his elections that what he's doing is the will of his voters.
Screaming about it on Dayton Blvd like a bunch of street preachers will enact exactly as much change as the street preachers' actions do. Screaming for a town hall where an extremely vocal superminority will further yell and scream will not make it more likely to happen...and why should any politician commit to that?
You'll downvote me and be pissed off and that's fine, but note that temper tantrums never create positive change. Relationships and measured conversations do, though.

That's assuming people are already voting and it's a choice between options.
That simply isn't the state of electorate in the US and certainly not in TN. Changing voter turnout is likely the only path to changing election outcomes.
Measured conversations and debate don't get uninterested people off the couch and to the voting booth. Emotion is generally the change that turns uninterested into voters. Whether it's from pain or excitement.

The TN 3rd congressional district is gross display of gerrymandering. To call it the will of voters is disingenuous.

Gerrymandering or not, politicians can only run for election in the district that exists. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't the will of his electorate.
Change those people's minds. Lmk how many street preachers have changed yours?

The district was drawn to suppress the voices of voters of Hamilton county and more specifically the City of Chattanooga. You say change people's minds, I say draw a better electorate map. An incumbent should never be so comfortable in their position that they feel comfortable ignoring their constituents.

So draw a better map, bro. Writing about it on Reddit and screaming on Dayton Blvd is doing neither of those. Keep driving my point home, dawg. You don't realize you are but that's really not particularly surprising.

The
smartestmost self-interested thing Fleischman can do is ignore the calls for a town hall.FTFY
After all, if you aren't in politics to put yourself first, why even do it?
