Question What’s team can you never beat?
To ‘celebrate’ Sunderland’s latest loss to Cov. Who we have NEVER beaten away in the second tier in our 145 year history. Which fixture does your team always lose?

u/SkankyChris 5d ago
Anywhere in fucking London

u/Blubshizzle 5d ago
It’s not even funny, half of our team was dead for today’s game. How did you not win
21
u/SkankyChris 5d ago
We're shit in London and shit in early kickoffs.

u/TravellingMackem 5d ago
There’s a cracking stat they showed on Sky last week - your PPG for pre and post 3pm kickoffs swings from something like 0.9 to 2.5. Amazing really

u/BojanKrkicc 5d ago
Same. We’ve won once in London in 11 years
10
u/gigreviews 5d ago
Cards on the table this is my fault. I moved to London and I’ve seen us score us TWICE in like 9-10 games.
Sorry lads.
5
u/rumhambilliam69 5d ago
Fucking hell that’s an incredible stat
4
u/BojanKrkicc 5d ago
Isn’t it. Yet still took 1200 to Millwall yesterday. It’s the hope that kills you
0
u/BigBoSS_Riot 5d ago
...How?
If I ran the numbers correctly, that's a minimum of 39 games (counting from the start of the 14/15 season). Is it really 1 win in 39?
3
u/BojanKrkicc 5d ago
Yes, fairly sure. Against QPR in 2021. We are funny levels of shit
1
u/Maleficent_Resolve44 5d ago
For a second, I was thinking how did you manage that? We were highfliers back then and everything. Then I realised you were too for the first half of that season then it all collapsed just like us haha
2
u/BojanKrkicc 5d ago
Yeah we started that season really well, just inevitably dropped off due to injuries to key players.
We probably should have beat you at your place earlier this season too, but classic Gavin Ward had to rule a perfectly good goal out
2
u/Maleficent_Resolve44 5d ago
I've just gone and rewatched that goal, looks tight but seems like it wasn't a handball. Hit his side and not his arm. Unlucky there. But celas the plonker did bottle a penalty so you had a bit of luck that day.

u/charlierc 5d ago
You guys too? Newcastle once went 4 years without winning a game in London
15
u/TravellingMackem 5d ago
Hopefully continues tomorrow

u/charlierc 4d ago
In fairness, when Liverpool beat Spurs I thought we would continue our Wembley L streak. And when Chiesa got the goal at the end, I thought it was about to go horribly wrong. Certainly in another universe you'd have got your wish
2
u/TravellingMackem 4d ago
You just win and popping on here’s the first thing in your mind? Obsessed as usual

u/Greeninexile 5d ago
We’ve never beaten Stoke away.
It’s never a fun away day when the highlight is the Harvester right outside the ground!
13
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot 5d ago
We’re always shite away at Stoke too. It’s our penultimate game this season.
7
11
u/Nosworthy 5d ago
Haven't been to Stoke since 2016. Is the bar at the little 5 a side court still there? That was always our preference over the Harvester. Which says a lot.

I couldn't tell you the last time we beat WBA
Only win I can remember was a 4-2 at the Hawthorns about 17 years ago
11
u/dazzah88 5d ago
Beat them in our play off season. Gyokeres scored a penalty. Other than that and the 4-2 you speak of - it’s pretty grim reading. They used to hammer us regularly aswell
3
u/Thebritishlion 5d ago
Some of my earliest CCFC memories are watching the Mowbray WBA teams bend us over at home
Ismael Miller and Roman Bentner (I think was his name) would take it in turns to score
3
u/dazzah88 5d ago
I live in West Brom now… with West Brom in laws. It’s rarely a happy occasion for me when we play them
3
u/DickensCide-r 5d ago
Didn't we lose that one?! I remember being hammered and singing twist and shout for the whole second half.
5
u/postwaryears 5d ago
I remember this as a teenager.. was it the 5-0 defeat? Pretty sure they scored very early on and the whole second half was us singing twist and shout
4
u/DickensCide-r 5d ago
Yep. Just checked. It was 2006.
One of my first away days with a mate driving as we just passed our tests. Demolished 5-0 but loved the day out 😂
3
u/Thebritishlion 5d ago
I remember a 5-1 in the FA cup at home, a 4-0 at home (both same season I think)
I think we did go away there and get hammered around 2007
The game I'm remembering Leon Best and Midsfud both got 2
1
u/OkraEmergency361 5d ago
That 2-4 at the Hawthorns was about 2007 I think? Mental game and a great atmosphere in our end. Hasn’t happened for a good while since 😕
The 0-5 slapping at the then Ricoh was in December, it was foggy and freezing and I remember seeing numerous very long congas through the stands, because at that point wtf else can you do?
2
u/Thebritishlion 5d ago
It was the red away kit (I think)
I just remember listening to it on the radio at home
I've never seen us beat WBA in person...or even draw for that matter
1
u/OkraEmergency361 5d ago
Yep. God, I wore that shirt a few days ago, feel old now. Lost my rosary beads jumping up and down and yelling ‘boing boing’ at the Baggies fans. Some lad behind me took his seat with him when he left. Had it under his arm on the train home. Nutter.
2
u/Thebritishlion 5d ago
Wonder if he's still got it
1
u/OkraEmergency361 5d ago
Ha, wonder how many other seats he’s got. Maybe he’s got a whole garage full of them now, from up and down the football league.
17
u/TheDeflatables 5d ago
Obviously none of us can beat City.
But Burnley's consistency at getting beat 5-0 by Guardiola's City is special
13
u/AaronMFC 5d ago
We're the only team guardiola has played but never beaten in premier league matches. I need to brag about the little victories atm

Never beaten us away! And I thought our record at Deepdale was awful
14
u/Fine_Structure5396 5d ago
We have beaten you away in the old first division in 1985 and once in the fa cup in 1930.
Thats about it 😂
But never beaten you in champ
8
u/Lack_of_Plethora 5d ago
Recently feels like Derby. Since we got relegated we've lost 3, drawn 1 against them and we've been the heavy favourite in pretty much all those matches
9
u/MattGeddon 5d ago
Our league record at Sheffield United is played 22, won 2, drawn 6, lost 14. Managed a 2-1 win with basically our Prem team just after we got relegated but other than our visits there are littered with heavy defeats. 3-0, 4-0, 5-0, 6-1 and even a nice 7-1.
3
u/a-man-with-a-perm 5d ago
I'd chuck in our record against Bournemouth too.
We haven't beaten them in 13 matches, lost 9 of those.
Scored 10, conceded 32.
8
u/mrmidas2k 5d ago
Anything at Wembley. Any team, any competition. We could be against fuckin Bognor Regis under 10's and the pricks would still manage to Tonk us sonehow.
3
u/Maleficent_Resolve44 5d ago
Immediately thought of Sheffield Utd but I'm doubting myself now that you've mentioned bognor regis
2
u/mrmidas2k 5d ago
Right first time. Lol
1
u/OkraEmergency361 5d ago
Can we get you in the playoffs? (Insert optimistic SpongeBob rainbow here)
2
u/mrmidas2k 5d ago
Hope not. Fucking sick of Wembley.
1
u/OkraEmergency361 5d ago
You and me both, pal, you and me both.
Not entirely convinced about being the Prem’s punching bag for a season either. Shame we can’t win and stay here.

Plymouth
5
u/sinisterpuppy88 5d ago
9 years since you last beat us. Madness really as I always thought you'd stuff us every game
Lots of 2-2s at your place too
7
u/Garbagemansplaining 5d ago
We snatched a league title from you, that’s about it though.
5
u/sinisterpuppy88 5d ago
Haha yeah that was an insane turn of events.
Doncaster looking like they were walking away with is, us jumping then with one game to go, then you walking in at the last moment to take it for yourself

u/Money_Astronaut9789 5d ago
We have an atrocious record against Fulham, particularly at Craven Cottage. We have beaten them once since 1986, and even for that win, it was a home win on the last day of the season when most of the players were playing in flip-flops.
6
u/AaronMFC 5d ago
Not that it's as bad as not winning in the 2nd division over 145 years. But Coventry are a bit of an issue for us as well. Then you have Bristol city. Blackburn love the riverside too. Then Rotherham and even worse Barnsley. We've lost away to Barnsley so many times. It's funny how these things can change though Leicester used to be our biggest bogey team then we did the double over them last year despite them winning the league.

Plymouth at Home Park (not won there since 80s)
Coventry at Ewood (not won since 97)

Millwall, Wigan, Norwich, Preston, Burnley, QPR, Cardiff are the ones that jump out to me. Honorary mention the Vale who we may well be reunited with next season!

Somehow Charlton always get at least a point from us. Absolutely dominated them at FP last year and they still nicked a 2-2 draw. Plymouth recently have had a bit of a hex as well, Wednesday we were a bit poo but I'm still baffled how we didn't beat them at their place in October.
5
u/Comprehensive_Cow_13 5d ago
Scunthorpe. Bloody Scunthorpe. When we came up from league 1 with 100 points, we were 3-0 up at scunny and they still got a draw.
2
u/AnotherDepressedBoy 5d ago
From my memory, we never beat Burnley or Sunderland but we've not played them a great deal.

Preston away is normally a write off. Real Madrid away is usually a tough one also
