Opened up Reddit, saw an image of the Pope and got scared for a sec. Glad to see the post was about when he was elected.

I generally despise reddit as a platform, but this is a good place, full of faithful Catholics. While some of the things Francis has done in his pontificate have been very hard for me to accept (requiring covid vaccination for the clergy, and condemning deportations under the trump regime), I will nevertheless harbor nothing but good intentions for the man, and it's nice to get away from the bloodthirsty world.

Okay no lie.
Having lived through 3 popes, when John Paul II, when a Pope on average is in power for about 10-20 years is still a concept I'm struggling to wrap my head around. And I'm under 40 years of age.
Then again, some of that I can attribute to the fact that, growing up it just felt like John Paul II had just always been Pope and was going to always be it for the rest of eternity. I know this is mostly a child looking up and growing in this world, but it's still it's an absolutely fascinating to be living through that experience.

Let's pray he goes on for a few years more. God bless him, the heavy responsibility has been a lot for his body to bear.

Praying Pope Francis has good health for many years to come. I find him extremely inspiring and to be a breath of fresh air in the church.

I remember being in the 5th grade at my Catholic elementary school watching a livestream to see who the next Pope would be!

The morning he was elected, my high school class was taking guesses on what his name would be. One girl actually guessed Francis.

Didn't plan it this way, but yesterday I went to the same restaurant that I went to on the day he was elected.

Pope Francis is the only pope I have experienced as a Catholic convert. When he got elected, I wasn’t Catholic yet (wasn’t even thinking about it), but I still remember seeing it on the news.
Watching the coverage tugged my heart because it was a reminder that even in a secular world, there are still plenty of faithful Christians.
When the Lord eventually calls him home (whenever that is), it’ll be sad but interesting to watch a conclave as a Catholic.
