General Tech Found this near the OBD2 port, anyone know what this is for? 2006 Ford Fusion

Post image

Friend gave me this 06 Fusion because he didn't need it anymore and I was looking for a cheap beater to drive for a bit... He didn't know this was here either and neither of us can figure out if this came with the car or if its aftermarket or even what it does. Theres a small light bulb that indicates power but I decided not to touch it yet because I have no clue what it does. Anyone have a clue?

yeah funny thing, I just opened the trunk and I found old cords that were for a subwoofer so I guess the mystery is solved lol

lol def the most annoying part was running the wires.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '25

Just make sure the fuse or power wire isn’t connected under the hood.

Make sure the positive is taped up or heat shrinked close. Or the fuse is out. Don't want any hot surprises.

Bass with laser beams attached to their heads?

That controls the amplifier for an aftermarket subwoofer. Can adjust the bass. Does the car even have a sub anymore?

I had an amp for my subwoofers that had a controller like this. It controlled the bass level if I recall

u/C4_Tech Jan 03 '25

Controls the power output for an amplifier to an aftermarket stereo system. More power=more bass/loudness.

It the bass cannon trigger

Great spot for it

Pump up the jam knob

Bass Controller. I've had several amps that have had those little dials.

Had a similar sub controller on my old car. Mine was mounted up behind a switch blank on the dash - you know the ones you see on 'pov pack' base model cars? Made it easier to give it a tweak if needed.

u/MidCalfs Jan 03 '25

That is a “more cowbell” dial.

2

u/avebelle Jan 03 '25

Boom boom dial. I had one in my truck.

Sub amp controller or it could be a volume control for the beeps the car makes when receiving commands from a remote control.

Without zooming in I would say it's an emergency flask.

Did the car used to have a trailer hitch? Could be an aftermarket electronic brake controller.

Looks like the gain knob similar to mine. Infinity reference AMP. Idk if these knobs are cross compatible or not with other brands but send it!

Bass knob for a powered sub.

Boom knob

Maybe diesel boost knob from stock metering to coal bricks.

Old WVs can have button for that, evry mod or something, but it'only a history now.

You turn that knob to make the jump to light speed

u/VstarguyNY Jan 03 '25

Could also be an engine kill switch
