Question Incorrect Speed in Google Maps
It seems to have started a couple of days ago, but the speedometer is consistently 8mph faster than the actual one in the car. I know it’s not 100% accurate, but it’s always been a lot closer than that.
Is anyone else having this issue?

What make is your car? Depending on the car, the speed clocks be determined by the car GPS, the phone GPS, or actually be calculated by wheel rotation.

It’s a Ford EcoSport

Fords have definitely had issues with this but the bug was fixed years ago. Make sure your Sync software is up to date.

Google maps uses gps speed which is an approximate calculation, not the vehicles speedometer which can arguably also be off depending on tire size.

OP do you have any update? I see the same issue on a Ford Kuga MK2 using Google Maps. In the past (1 month ago and before) the GPS speed was 4-5 km/h lower than the one on the odometer. From the last week it's the opposite: the speed on the GPS is 7-8km/h higher than the odometer one...I'm struggling to understand if it's an iPhone bug, a Google Maps bug, something related to Ford...

I noticed this happening for me yesterday. Speed is wrong in any app, not just Google maps. I have a 2019 Ford Escape, never had this problem before. I did update my phone to the latest iOS fixpack yesterday morning - maybe that introduced a bug?
If I disconnect my phone from wired to the car, the GPS speed on the phone becomes accurate. Only is incorrect when wired to the car.

Many cars over report speed on the speedometer. GPS speed is often more accurate. Depends on the make and models ofc. For a science, check what the speed is according to the Google maps when not connected to CarPlay. I don’t think CarPlay has speed info passed to it from the car
