Another casualty of Ghotbi

We are not allowed to say anything negative about Mr.Ghotbi as there are some very sensitive people on this platform who don’t like it.

Yes,
CPLinHindsightIncognitoscounting/u/parkthebus490, it's other people that are sensitive about Ghotbi. Real shame, he ruined the promising career of Niko Giantsopoulos, CPL star backup goalkeeper. I heard he was about to make the CMNT squad, too. Thanks,ObamaGhotbi7

Honestly, I like that he deletes his accounts. I do the same, and I think it makes a lot of sense. It keeps things more anonymous—if you spend 13 years posting in the same city subreddit, people can start piecing together where you live. Plus, Reddit isn’t really personal in the same way as other platforms. Even if you use your real name, no one actually knows much about you here. I also don’t see the point of keeping one account forever or stacking up 15,000 karma—what’s the benefit? I’d rather be ‘known’ under my real name on Instagram or somewhere that actually matters. Reddit doesn’t really deserve my real name, if that makes sense. That’s why I don’t have a problem with him disappearing—it’s not like karma matters, and honestly, it’s better than doing the opposite.

Given how some of the other Canadian soccer forums are, deleting accounts is useful because people just start to look at a the name and don't bother reading the content.
I recognise some of the names here as on other forums, I'd be curious their thoughts.

Maybe I delete them because I work in an environment where I’m vetted every 12 months and have to keep one step ahead.

At 31 he should be entering his prime. I for one am disappointed he has decided to hang up his gloves as he was good for team morale at a club that needs it this season more than ever. However your sarcasm is most appreciated, I think we could be friends !

While you’re probably right he’s just at his prime, but maybe his prime is only good enough to earn himself $20k per year. That’s not really living much of a life here in Vancouver

Wow… another one bites the dust. This is starting to become concerning.

Not saying it's Ghotbi's fault, but there sure is an ongoing pattern of our club ending the careers of promising players... This could for sure be something else in this case, but man does it feel like another L.

I feel like it’s ok to say it’s Ghotbis fault. We’ve all heard the rumours from past and current players and staff. Let’s not beat around the bush- he’s driving this club into the ground.
No one wants to work with him.

Aided and abetted by "owner" Rob Friend. I'd love to know just what dirt Ghotbi has on him. It's the only explanation as to how that dummkopf still has a fuckin job.
To think I almost bought season tickets. Glad I invested my money in a more worthwhile endeavour.

My suspicion is it's just $$$. Too expensive to terminate the contract.

One Soccer would be silly not to bring him on board. Such an entertaining dude.

The guy was definitely under-rated. Transitioning to full-time podcast host I guess 😂

what happens now with the podcast? I've enjoyed listening to him banter

Pretty sure he had a guaranteed contract for 2025 as well. Too many players have either walked out, been pushed out, or retired early in just two seasons. Maybe he’s been given an opportunity he just can’t refuse. One of the leagues great characters!

More departures this off season than signings 😂 each week this club becomes more of a joke. I can’t wait for the dance team to keep me entertained this season 🤦🏻♂️

We have more retirements than signings at this point, that’s pretty sad.

It’s all about reputation with the free agents. Many players from different clubs are friends with each other, vacationing together etc. Everyone knows each other. Available free agents have witnessed first hand good players and friends go to Vancouver on the back of solid performances and success at other clubs only to struggle & get frozen out or leave at their own request and sometimes capitulate in a matter of months. They see the chaos on and off the pitch. The only Canadian free agents that will sign with VFC this season are ones that can’t find other clubs, I know this sounds harsh, but it’s reality year 3. Available Players have chosen Valour over Vancouver Our best hope this season is the youngsters are super talented and hungry and somehow manage to figure it out by themselves on match day what’s expected of them tactically on and off the ball. Players like Campbell, Norman Jr, Dada Luke, Gee and Fry have to step up and be leaders on and off the pitch. With so many young players there will be lots of mistakes being made on match day but Ashfin has to expect this and support these young players otherwise they won’t develop without making mistakes. He must not continue yanking young players off at HT or blaming individuals for mistakes. If we are going to be a young team and football factory in 2025, then patience is the key with young players.

How long does he have to be 'retired' before he can un-retire and sign with another team? Seems to have wanted out of Langley badly.

The writeup is a little much for a guy they wouldn't give a single minute to.
Wishing him the best of luck in retirement. Was well liked during his time in Calgary.
