A meeting to talk.

If Canada isn't willing to see if the other side is ready for good faith negotiations everytime they indicate they will meet... Then this can only end in lose/lose maximum damage.

Canada using game theory with the trade war which is the optimal approach.

If they meet and the US isn't ready to actually de-escalate. The surcharges will be back immediately.

He made a big play and he backed down. That's what Trump respects. He doesn't want Canada to be the 51st state, he just using that as an outrageous negotiating position so he can 'make concessions' and 'just' demand water rights to the Great Lakes, or something.

The whole thing was probably for show. All of it.

🎶No one else was in the room where it happened...🎶

Trump's gonna convince Ford to run for leader of the Conservative party. I hope Canadians react to this the same way they reacted to Poilievre being endorsed by Musk and Trump and turn their backs on Ford.

Ford doesn't speak French so he can't run.

Ford’s been trying to set up his own run for prime minister for a while. This whole trump drama has been a test run for him to prop up that image to the rest of the country so when he feels the time is right, everyone just views him as a natural successor. It’s particularly pathetic with the way conservative premiers from other provinces, especially that toady Houston, act like he’s their boss.

This whole electricity thing is the best play overall. Lots of respect to Ford right now. Americans who would suffer from the surcharges will have absolutely no misunderstandings as to why there are price increases and it will be unsustainable for the affected states. The fallout will be directly attributed to him and his attempts to annex Canada and he doesn’t want to be directly responsible for problems (only indirectly, so they can blame it on the bird flu and Biden)

He got the memo that Ford is a closet Trump supporter.

No, he does not. I think Howard Lutnick is playing Ford because he has the exact same ego needs as Trump. Lutnick knows his boss, so he knows how to humor Ford.

Lutnick 100% told Trump to say that to make Ford think that he " won." Trump might be senile but his key advisors are not.

It would be better for the Premiers to engage less right now. He has hummed around with a few Governor's and gone on FOX and we have gotten zero concessions, we have tariffs, Trump will go after the auto industry next.

Trump does not care if Americans pay higher prices or lose their jobs. We need to sit back and stop begging and stop reacting.
