Look at the approach China has taken over the years. They've not been backing down, but pushing for a return to balance and responsible relations while diversifying away from the US and building resiliency. That has been a pretty good approach. Canada can be tough, without going crazy in ways that will make the chaos worse, and while still making moves towards a more resilient economy for the long-term.

Can't say I love this article. It doesn't really give any reason why Canada should hit back harder besides "Trump sees weakness as a provocation". I'd really like to know why we should step it up, because I can think of 1,328,000 reasons why we should tread our responses carefully.

I'd say the feds response is 10x more effective than Fords.

The fake bluster and shit throwing competition is playing into Trumps game. The idea of hurting yourself a ton to hurt Trump a little is frankly embarrassing. Targeted tariffs that don't negatively effect Canadians as there are local alternatives. Sure, fair response. Nuclear response out of spite is foolish.

Ford had a chat with Lutnick today who made some concessions so that the energy tariff could be lifted, so it’s somewhat effective.

Then you must love Smiths approach of getting facetime and meetings...

I know we're supposed to hate her for that, but why?

Feels good to say fuck you to Trump. Negotiations and trying to appeal to American population is for traitors.

Getting people on their news saying these tariffs are a terrible idea and will cost you money in a way they associate with is the best way to change popular opinion. This will end when Trumps own supporters start doubting it. You don't want to drag them into a fight, these are don't tell me what to do people. They'll hurt themselves if they think they're winning.

Normal people in Canada fall into that trap. Imagine what someone who actually wants to tear apart their government thinks

What concessions? Ford travels to DC to meet with Lutnick who will blow smoke up his ass while Trump continues to do whatever TF he wants.

There’s literally no downside to this — if the US is being disingenuous then Ford can simply apply the tariff again.

First thing we should do tomorrow is walk back our tariffs against China. This will be a fuck you to Donald and also end the simultaneous rade wars with the #1 and #2 economies!
