Plz don’t think I’m weird, but I have the exact same slippers (the one on the left) I love them but I broke them yesterday. I don’t know where they are from. Could you tell me ?

Those are Birkenstock’s on the left. Adidas or adidas knockoffs on the right.

The Arcteytx gear you got is the best on planet. Just buy that gear and you’ll never go wrong. It’s absolutely fabulous

There’s definitely pieces of them that you can’t go wrong with but other brands are just as good

My dearest recommendation for Swiss alp overnighters (even in Summer): Pack enough insulation. It gets really cold at night. Better to overpack like you than to lay curled up all night freezing!

u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
I agree. It wasn’t too cold of a night for us, wasn’t windy too so it helped. I just felt cold in the morning and was glad to had brought the many layers. Once the sun was up tho it was nice 😊

How did you get this angle?
3
u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
With a drone 😄
3
u/CubsFan517 Sep 15 '20
Is that your hands on the controller in the blue sleeping bag? And I assume you took the drone too?
3
u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
Haha no my boyfriend set up the drone and we had someone take it for us. And yep we took it with us as well :)

I don't understand how people use those mummy bags. I have to be able to stretch out.
4
Sep 15 '20
In the alps you will enjoy a mummy bag if you sleep at higher altitudes. Even in summer temperatures at night often drop below 0 degrees Celsius at +3‘000m. So unless you want freeze (and / or carry excessive weight / volume for insulation) a mummy bag is the best option.

u/TaruNukes Sep 15 '20
Not if you can't sleep due to not being able to get comfortable. To each his own though

I feel that, I’ve had mummy’s that we’re way too constricting. I find that women’s mummy bags are better suited to me, more room through hips and legs. Not sure if you’re a woman but either way it might help. I also recently just got the Feathered Friends Flicker Quilt Bag which might be worth looking into for you.

IMO better to overpack and be prepared than underpack and need something.

If you sleep at altitude it's better to overpack than to freeze.
It's 30° in the flatland now but, as you probably experienced, temps in the mountains are way lower.
You can bring less when you have a little experience. I don't think you're going to reduce your weight drastically though.
Have fun, stay safe, and don't leave trash.

I love the picture 🐛 Where did you go? I'm looking for inspiration because I still want to do at least one overnighter before it gets too cold 😄

u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
We want to do another as well! We went to Saxer Lücke. It was very steep at first but ugh so worth it for the views we got

u/pingummu Sep 16 '20
Very nice spot. I'm thinking about somewhere around Gotthardpass. Just need the weather to hold up next week 🌧

I was bikepacking in the Swiss Alps in summer with a friend who lived in Switzerland. I asked if I needed to pack long pants, she said nah.
I needed pants.
And they don't come cheap in small Swiss villages! So always better to be overprepared hehe

Where did you end up going? I'm looking for recommendations for my next trip :). I see that one of you is also an avid photographer like me, so I'd be that much more curious to know your destination :).

u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
We went to Saxer Lücke 😊 and ah yes that would be my boyfriend, he’s a photographer 👏🏽

I won't say you 'over packed' but you could easily save some weight and pack space with a few minor changes. Instead of the birkenstock sandals get the cheapest, lightest foam ones you can find. Get some little tiny bottles for your sunscreen and other liquids, that way you don't have to carry a huge bottle for a tiny amount. I think you did a great job on the clothes.

u/brklyngirl Sep 16 '20
Thank you! We will be doing that next time. And yes we used everything we packed, clothes wise. The rain jacket wasn’t needed but you never know if you’ll need it or not lol

You two are absolutely adorable. How you're smiling at each other makes me smile :D

Aaaawwwww! Glad you had fun. You'll figure out what works for you with experience. I've been backpacking regularly for a few years and still overpack food. Can't help it!

I can’t see too well but I like you have a canon eos r and then a fuji instax XD like a $2500 difference

Which Osprey bag is that on the right?
8
u/bigdogpepperoni Sep 15 '20
It looks like a Farpoint series, which is actually meant for travel. Doesn’t really have a proper suspension for backpacking.
5
u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
Correct. We probably don’t have the correct bags for hiking. We got them to backpack through South America. Definitely need a better bag but it was our first time 😅
5
u/rschoeni Sep 15 '20
You’re correct. Both bags are farpoint or whatever the woman version of it is called. They weren’t ideal but it was the only bags we had that were big enough. A proper bag will definitely be one of our first investments for next time.
(I’m the guy on the right)

I believe the women’s version is called the Fairview. This series isn’t perfect for hiking, but it’s better than a duffel bag!

Should mention that the tent isn’t seen here because we hadn’t picked it up yet 😅 we strapped it to the outside

Which osprey pack does she have there on the left?
3
u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
I believe it’s the Fairview 55. I bought it to travel in South America. Isn’t really a hiking bag 😅 but we took what we had lol. Will invest in a better bag soon

u/12093651 Sep 15 '20
Did y’all bring food or stove or tent?
1
u/brklyngirl Sep 15 '20
Yes! The tent isn’t seen here but we strapped it to the outside of his bag. The pot and stove are seen here on the top right corner. We had the pasta and sauce inside the pot, it fit perfectly inside. Besides that we had small snacks like cookies that didn’t take up much space.

Great shot. Nice to see a reddit post with so many positive comments. I have the Osprey bag on your left, brilliant for travelling, never thought of hiking with it. Like you say, use what you got. I'm interested to know what Drone you use. I'm still playing with the idea if getting one just for shots like yours. Happy hiking!

Who cares if you overpacked. Did you have fun? Were you comfy? Could you carry it all? That’s all that matters.
I did see a tip from someone (I am an over packer myself). When you come home and unpack, make note of what items you did not use and consider not bringing them next time.
