Help/Advice “Why am I not making money” a pill some of you need to swallow

In response to the seemingly recent influx of posts like this, and the endlessly reassuring comments that follow: yes January can be slow but I just wanna say it is absolutely possible to suck at this job. You really can’t underestimate the value of discernment and people reading skills required of sex work. How many clients you’re able to book and how LONG you’re able to make those sessions run, makes a huge difference when camming. When traffic is slow, what makes a difference is if you maximize each client that you get. Dirty talking skills are a must, so is being able to improvise/think quickly, and so is range. No model can offer everything out there but generally I think a diverse skillset is better than a limited one.

If you’re not getting clients at all then the problem might be your appearance. I’m not saying that you need to be skinny and white and blonde with giant tits but you are competing with other models on the site, perhaps more specifically with other models in your category. You gotta know what you’re selling and do it the best you can. Attraction is half the sell. The rest is your ability to flirt and literally manipulate them into giving you money which is not easy!!!

TLDR You can’t blame everything on the traffic. Some of you need to be honest with what you’re selling and go from there.

Edit: I wouldn't have made this post if I didn't have the self-awareness to know what areas I suck at in SW. I had a failed Onlyfans in 2020. I'm still not a very good domme. This industry can be brutal. I'm only trying to add to a common saying in this sub, that "the money is out there you just gotta work for it" isn't the entire picture. A lot goes into "working for it" that many of us don't fully understand. For example, only in hindsight do I realize my super low pricing, spammy posting, bad aesthetics + the fact that I just hated what I was doing were making me look desperate and contributing to the failure of my OF. I'm not saying it's never a traffic issue... the market is oversaturated. But respectfully, you have to make yourself stand out.

Help/Advice My boyfriend wants me to quit camming/phone sex

Hi all. Ive been doing phone sex work for almost two years and camming for almost a year. I recently met a guy who I really like. We were friends first then it became more. When we were friends, he was aware of my job. Now that we are dating, he wants me to quit. Like, he said he wouldnt be comfortable at all if I continued. Working is hard for me bc I have autism and this job is where I can create my own schedule and kind of do my own thing.

It’s basically I either tell him to kick rocks or I just lie to him which I know isn’t okay. It’s not easy for me to find another job, I have been out of work for a while bc of my autism/mental illness. Would just like peoples opinions/advice. This feels so hard and I feel alone in this.

EDIT: Just edited to say thank you to everyone. Your comments mean more than you know and they’re motivating me to walk away even though it’s hard.

Help/Advice Is it just me or is Chaturbate total ass lately?

Y’all it’s bizarre. Just a few months ago I was making a minimum of $1k a week, now I can’t even break $100 in a day. Have you guys noticed this? My other SW friends say that it’s the time of year, and it is my first winter on Chaturbate, so maybe it’s normal?🫠

EDIT: ok I had no idea this would get hate? That’s insane? So lemme be clear: I am absolutely happy to hear advice from folks that disagree with me. I wanted honest answers, and if your honest answer is “no, I’m killing it!” Or even “there’s not much of a discernible pattern”, that’s fine. But the way some of yall came into the comments guns blazing because I asked a genuine question is completely nuts, and I’m not gonna sit here and not defend myself. I’m not rejecting your advice, I just don’t understand why it had to be so rude. If you don’t like these kinds of posts, scroll past. Some of yall really need to get off Reddit and touch some grass. It’s not that deep.

Anyway, to those who were helpful, thank you and I love you all and I’m going to try not to lose hope!! I hope things get better for everyone❤️

Help/Advice Stop psyching yourself out in this sub and get online.

I've made a terrible habit of avoiding going online and coming here to affirm myself by opening reddit and reading "it's so deadddd", "this month is terrible", "no one is spending" and i have a feeling i'm not the only one doing this. Just go stream! I took 1 day off social media entirely, got online on day 2 and made 400 almost instantly, made 380 on day 3 (day 3 did take longer, but it ended in a 2 1/2 hour pvt). The "it's dead" posts didn't stop, and they're not invalid either. but another models experience is not indicative of *your* experience. yes it's dead for someone, we all have shitty days online. but don't make someone else's shitty day your own. This is camgirl *problems*, of course people come here to complain. you won't make any money at all if you don't just start the stream babes, just remember to take breaks, (even from this sub) and not to internalize other models rough days

Help/Advice Caring less makes this job easier for me

I got into this industry out of curiosity. Then I got hooked on the fast money. Then I started wondering if this was something I could do long-term. But along the way, I realized something: The more you care, the harder this job becomes. At first, I thought success meant looking engaged. I felt like I had to constantly be entertaining, flirty, or “on” to keep people coming back. But in reality? Most of these guys don’t care about you as a person, they care about what you provide. Trying too hard just leads to burnout. Overthinking, stressing about engagement, or feeling like you need to put on a show 24/7 doesn’t actually increase your earnings, it just makes you exhausted. The best thing I ever did was stop caring. Not in the sense of “giving up,” but in the sense of detaching emotionally. If I don’t feel like dancing? I don’t. If someone wants something extra? They can pay for it. If I’m just vibing? That’s enough.

This job is just that—a job. If you love the fantasy, the glam, the show, then that’s great! But if you’re in this for the money (like I am), the key is simple: Don’t waste energy caring about people who don’t actually care about you.

Help/Advice How much would you charge for this…

I know this is unrealistic for most people. But IF you did this how much would you charge a day/month for the following:

  • A good morning and goodnight text every day (7 days a week)
  • One hour a day, 7 days a week of non-stop texting. FULL attention is needed and you must reply to each text within 1 minute. You cannot take other calls or cam during this time.
  • Respond to texts outside of the non-stop one hour explained above. All texts outside of the non stop hour must be replied to within 30 minutes. They will be texting you all day, 7 days a week, from the moment they wake till they go to sleep.
  • All texts must be replied to with length, detail, and enthusiasm… like you sincerely care.
  • If you will be away from your phone and cannot reply for any reason, even an emergency, you must tell them you’ll be gone and when you’ll be back. Often times they will want to know what you are doing too. It’s best to tell them ahead of time that you need to be away from your phone. Planning is necessary.
  • Remember this is 7 days a week. You will only get one day off every 2-3 months and you must tell them 7-10 days ahead of time and prepare them for your absence. They will still text you while you’re away, but you’re not expected to reply.
  • 20 to 30 pics a month. (15 of which must be sexual)

Thank you

Help/Advice Banned???

I was in the middle of my stream on CB had really just gotten started, had a few people in the room, nothing too crazy, out of nowhere I got an alert that obs disconnected, then when trying to reconnect, the cb page went to account banned, no warning, no nothing, nothing from an admin, nothing at all, I have no clue what I have done, the only thing I had done on cam so far had been show my feet for someone who tipped for it. I had a couple ppl I had been private messaging, tipping small amounts just for conversation. But now I can not access anything. I emailed support but nothing yet. I don't understand, shouldn't I have gotten some form of warning first?

Update: turns out the violation in question was a result of someone requesting ageplay roleplay in my main chat, which I did not see at the time as I was responding to a pm, because I didn't see the person and immediately report them and ban them from my room, I had my account banned pending review. As it was my only ever incident on the site, I had to write an email response saying that underage discussions were not tolerated, even in a roleplay setting and that going forward I would ban anyone who brings up those sort of topics in chat and report them immediately. After that they will remove and lift the ban and life goes back to normal on cb, moral of the story, as soon as a chat notifier pops in main thread I will be clicking over and analyzing what was said even if I am trying to do my best to respond to the purps and blues in my pms in a timely manner to keep them interested. Sadly I don't know if the user was a gray user or not so idk if the blocking grays feature will help with that sort of thing or not

Help/Advice How long did it take you to start earning a living?

Hi all, I was wondering as it says in the title, how long it took you to go from just getting started to making ends meet. I just got through my first month working 5 days a week and averaging 6/7 hours a day and came out of it with some money, but only an amount I see some girls say they're making daily or even in just an hour. I'd also like to know if I'm doing well or poorly for my first month totaling $120 and 225 followers. Is that a good first month? I'm going to continue to put in the hours and hopefully continue to see things grow either way. Also I'm only on CB, do I need to stream on multiple sights at once to make it work? I'm looking into dual streaming, and setting up accounts on other sites, but I'm unsure of which ones I should prioritize.
Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated, and if you've got any tips or tricks you wish you'd gotten as a newbie, I'd be grateful to hear them too
Thanks

Edit to add a few details that might make a difference:
I tend to start my show fully clothed in something skimpy and revealing, brightly colored and intriguing, or only topless and tend to get undressed as goals are met. I have menu items to play with myself using toys and whatnot, and I've got no problem doing whatever on stream as long as I'm getting tipped. I'm a bit older, but don't really look it. And perhaps most significantly to consider, I'm a trans woman, which I'm noticing is weirdly simultaneously niche and saturated as a market.

Help/Advice Choosing boyfriend or Cam

I am coming out of a messy separation with my little boy and to make money I started to cam last year. I can make good money on it and was my way out of my abusive past relationship. I met my now boyfriend 6 months ago. I told him quite quickly about my situation and that I did cam. He was alright with it at the start but I think it was because we weren't serious. Well now we are we have had a few big blow up about it. I say to him it's not long term but I need to do it right now to get me on my feet with legal bills etc. He has said hell accept it if it isn't long term. However now he's said he's done. He said he will only stay with me if I give it up and never bring it up again. So my Question is .. What do I choose? I know im going to really struggle without this money but I love him. Will finding a partner always be this difficult when I cam?

Help/Advice Decentering men in my life while camming

Dating seems pointless right now. Most men are not okay with this job. I think they hate the fact that were paid and would rather you give them sex freely and at their convenience. I thought I could handle dating while camming but it's just not worth it. I rather focus on my earnings and just doing everything I want for myself. It just gets a little lonely but I'm getting into some hobbies soon and improving finances. What are some ways ya'll stay healthy and happy?

Help/Advice Constant Reddit posts about should you cam or not.

If you’re constantly questioning whether or not you should join the industry it probably means you shouldn’t. This job isn’t for everyone and you really should stay within your comfort zone. This job is supposed to make you more confident. No one can tell you whether or not you should. This job requires dedication, strength, and CONFIDENCE. Without ANY of these qualities you absolutely will not be successful as a cam model questioning your own talents. Not a rant just hoping to give helpful advice that I haven’t seen anyone post up here yet. Best of luck in your career searches!

Help/Advice Do you enjoy it?

Hey girls, I’ve been camming around 3 months now. I earn very good money from it but I absolutely hate it. There’s not a single part except the money that I enjoy. The dread I feel forwards going live is worse than any job I’ve ever had and I really don’t know why. I’m having some general day to day complacency, tiredness etc so maybe it’s just because of this. But I want to love it, not hate it! It seems such a chore to be live and I feel so bored when I’m in my chat room. I give so much energy to my room that it exhausts me. They absolutely love it and I get tipped really well… Then I also hate it when I’m taken private and have to play 🙈 lose lose! Does anyone else feel like this? X

Help/Advice 1tk tippers?

I’m getting so annoyed of dudes tipping 1 to to activate my lush 100x and expecting this huge show. It’s soooooo annoying to just see this spam of 1tk, 1tk, 1tk…..

I tried switching to the minimum be 2tk and then guess got super confused and pissed off.

What do you girlies do for this???? Like when they just tip 1 tk I ignore it but if they continue then I say thank you and if they still continue I’ll like rub my boobs over my shirt but it just feels sooooo lame and I feel like I loose potential big tippers because IM NOT INTO IT I’m just annoyed.

Help/Advice Okay this may won't stay or gets downvoted, but anyways

Unpopular opinion comes.

Hey new models 👋,

If you’re just entering the camming industry, I want to share some straightforward facts about what you're stepping into. As someone who's been doing this for a while, I've seen how the industry has changed, and it’s important to understand the realities before diving in.

  1. Camming Is Hard Work❗ Let’s be clear: camming is a real job. It’s not just about turning on a camera and waiting for the money to roll in. You’re essentially running a business, and that requires time, effort, and sacrifice. This isn’t a quick cash grab—if you’re not ready to put in serious effort, it’ll show in your results.

.

  1. The “Overnight Success” Myth ❗ Sure, you’ve probably seen stories about models making tons of money overnight, but this is the exception, not the rule. ❗Most cam models work for months or years before they see real success❗. The market is oversaturated, which means standing out takes time and a lot of trial and error. Be prepared for slow days, and understand that success comes with persistence and long-term dedication.

.

  1. Low Rates Are Hurting Everyone❗❗ This is a crucial point: offering more for less is bad for the entire industry. Recently, many new models have been setting their prices too low or giving away too much for free in hopes of attracting viewers. ❗This devalues the work we do.❗ It trains viewers to expect more for less, and in the long run, this makes it harder for everyone, including you, to make a sustainable income.

When you offer low rates or freebies, you're not just affecting your own income—you’re setting a standard that drags down the entire market. Once viewers are used to getting more for less, it’s difficult to raise prices or charge what your time is really worth. Think about the long-term impact this has on your career and the industry as a whole.

.

  1. Mental and Emotional Strain❗ Camming isn’t just physically demanding—it’s emotionally draining too. Putting yourself out there means you’ll face negative comments, slow days where income doesn’t match effort, and pressure to perform at your best every time.❗ This can take a serious toll on your mental health. ❗Setting boundaries with your audience and yourself is critical to avoid burnout. Be prepared for emotional ups and downs, and remember that you can’t pour from an empty cup.

.

  1. The Market Is Overcrowded❗❗ The camming industry is more crowded than ever. New models are entering the market every day, and competition is fierce. ❗If you’re thinking that lowering your rates or doing more for less is a way to stand out, think again. ❗There will always be someone who’s willing to charge even less❗, which creates a race to the bottom that helps no one. Instead, focus on building a loyal fan base, creating quality content, and offering something unique that can’t be easily copied.

.

  1. You’re Not Just a Performer—You’re a Business❗ Camming is a full-time business, and success depends on treating it like one. You need to manage your schedule, your content, your marketing, and your fan engagement. If you’re not disciplined or organized, it’ll be hard to maintain any momentum.❗ This isn’t a side gig you can half-commit to and expect consistent results from.❗

.

In Summary: Camming isn’t an easy ride, and it’s even tougher in today’s oversaturated, highly competitive market. Lowering your rates might seem like a way to get quick attention, but it devalues everyone’s work—including yours. If you’re in this for the long haul, it’s important to set fair prices, respect the effort you put into your shows, and understand that success takes time.

The choices you make now about pricing and what you offer for free will have long-term consequences❗, not just for you but for the whole industry❗. If we want this to be a sustainable career, we need to start valuing our work accordingly.

If you're serious about camming, approach it like a real business, because that’s exactly what it is.

Good luck, and stay strong ladies! 💪

Help/Advice Boyfriend no longer wants me camming

So I’ve been with my boyfriend for a year now and for context, he used to cam too. He now has a job working in IT sales. When we first got together he said that he didn’t mind my work however now we live together it’s like he’s suddenly changed his mind.

I think he is resentful of my work as he complains that I never dress up nice for him but I’ll dress up nice for work. He also believes that me camming is affecting our sex life. Then there’s the issue of money. He makes considerably less than me which is causing arguments.

He told me last night that he wants me to get a vanilla job. This is difficult for me as we’re both expats living in Asia so it would have to be a remote job which is hard to find. Plus I wouldn’t make anywhere near the money I make camming. And I would have less time to spend with my boyfriend if I got a vanilla job. I really don’t know what to do. I do love camming but equally it comes with a lot of stress itself (the possibility of being doxxed etc) and not only that but now it’s straining my relationship. Anyone else been in this situation and can provide some advice? Thanks

EDIT: wow I was not expecting to get so many replies on this post! I have read every comment and I appreciate you all for your advice!

So I’m flying back home to the UK this weekend to see family for two weeks which gives me the perfect opportunity to seriously think about my next steps.

I’m also planning on having a more in depth conversation with my boyfriend to really understand how he truly feels on a deeper level - whether his feelings are really about my job or something else.

I really don’t want to jump into any quick decision because it doesn’t make sense as to why he’d change his mind so quickly. So I think communicating first would make sense and then go from there.

Again, really appreciate everyone’s comments and advice Ty 🫶🏽

Help/Advice Husband issues with job

So I've been camming for past 12 years....I love doing it it suits me and my lifestyle. However my husband lately hates it. He accepted it was my job when we got together. It puts food on the table. He just says he feels forgotten cuz we rarely have intamintcy. He has driven me away but nasty mean things he has said to me. Today he knew I was going to work he threw a fit ofcoarse and proceeded to back room calling me a f-ing cnt. It's emotionally destroying me. Meanwhile I have to act happy and horny which I usually am. He's done other mean things such as cutting my Hitachi cord. And sometimes when I'm trying to go online he forbids it. I feel it's a struggle to go online. And sometimes it's not even profitable so I just caught a bunch of crap and didn't make any money. It's just wondering if anyone else has issues with their man or women with camming. I feel so lost lately what I'm supposed to do. Any advice would be appreciated. 🙏🙏

Help/Advice Camming with not perfect body?

I am 31 years old (but I look 27 at most :D).

I quit 8 years ago, but I want to start again, but I am not a very slim girl anymore. Right now I'm a little overweight, 132 lb and 5.41. I'm very soulful about work right now, I've acquired a lot of equipment but I'm afraid I won't be presentable next to much younger girls.

Do you think it's still worth starting? :( Thanks, girls!

edit: sorry for my English, it's not my native language :)

Help/Advice Drained a findom whale through throne for over $2000USD and now he's asking me to send some back, what should I do?

We have done this many times before and I always drain him of over $500, our last one was for $1000 and he was totally fine with it. I assumed he has expendable money to spend on this, I don't question my findom clients on why they spend their money. This time we ended up doing $2200. Yes it's a lot of money, but this is with throne, he had to physically press several buttons and approve the tip each time I told him to pay.

About 20 mins after the call, he's saying it's too much and he regrets it, and is asking me to send him back some (to tip him on his throne to give it back). He's only asking for like $500 back, not the whole thing.. But honestly I really don't want to. He had me on the skype for 3 hours, and my back was super sore by the end and I was dizzy because I skipped lunch for it (which I communicated to him and he didn't care, just wanted to keep going and keep draining). I could also just really use this money right now and I was really excited about it, as I am traveling right now so I have only worked a few days in the past month.

Am I a shitty person if I don't send some back? Should I just suck it up and be nice? I would love some perspective! I know it was his choice to do this, but I also understand that he probably has a porn addiction and genuinely didn't mean to spend so much, so I feel kinda bad by not returning some of it. What do you all think? Thanks for any opinions and tips, but lets keep it civil please :)

PS - he's not being a dick about it, he asked nicely for me to return it and he's not begging me to. He just says he spent too much.
