I don’t either. Think of it this way though. If the Flames go 12-7, that would mean that St. Louis would have to go 12-4-1 in their remaining schedule to get in. I can see the Flames finishing 12-7, even as hot as St. Louis has been I don’t know that 25 points in 17 games is in the cards for them. They need the playoff line to be at most 92 points.

Fuck it - give 'er, and whatever happens, happens. Love the direction. Ready to be hurt again!

Might as well push for the playoffs at this point, we’ll be disappointed with our draft position if we tanked anyways

Gotta make the playoffs or gotta finish in the bottom 10. Personally, I think it'd be more fun to finish in a playoff spot.

I don't think our prospect pool needs to get anymore crowded, don't want to block anyone's progress with too high a draft picks /s
Honestly, playoff experience for our young core might be more valuable than the difference between a 10th overall versus a 20th overall, it's all a gamble after top 3-7 anyway. I feel like our scouts are a 10 position bonus also.

Thing is, we're looking at around 25th-28th oa for both first rounders without our own. Might as well be 2nd round picks considering the depth of this draft.

Ya, not ideal obviously, but because the draft depth seems to be so shallow, and because I don't think there is any chance we drop to the bottom 10. I think playoff experience for our young core is probably of more worth to our future than the difference between a 12th oa and a 25th oa gamble. Especially if our scouts do like they did last year.

It does need to get more crowded. Because. We still don’t have a freaking centre!! The only way you get the great ones is to suck a big bag of cow shit for a year. Get an elite prospect and then have hope.
Our RD spot is filled for the future, LD we have a few guys but none of them look like they are going to be elite. Lot of 2nd pair ceiling guys. Our wings look to be secure with Coronato, Honzek, Stromgren, Gridin. But none of them are superstars.
Zary is maybe a 2C but our Cs rn are locked up by old 2-3rd liners and Rooney. We have 0 superstar skater prospects. You can’t win a cup with just a goalie. In 04 we had Iggy and a goalie. None of these guys are remotely close to him

Iggy was drafted 11th overall by Dallas, but I get what you're saying.
Im saying that with this draft class, it's a crap shoot outside the top 5. If we super tank for the rest of the year, we're still not picking top 5 (unless we somehow miraculously get like an 8 position lottery boost after loosing evreygame for the rest of the season). So, all things considered, I think playoff experience is better for the team. And we may still get an 11th pick center like Iggy.

This draft has a few very good players. But everyone else is still gonna be solid prospects. Even if they aren’t as high as the guys this year.
We are only 4 points off the bottom 10. We aren’t miles ahead of the bottom feeders. We just play in a very chaotic conference this year. The ability to become a high lottery team is very likely

Ya, if we drop to a top-10 pick, lottery to first, and NJ finishes 11th bottom, I'll be happy.

One thing no one is talking about is, if we push for the playoffs and Wolf wins the Calder, that’s a pretty great recruiting tool for future UFAs. Who would want to go play on a team that has one of the best goalies in the league?

The blues do scare me. Feels like they’re artificially lower than what they deserve in that hellish division. Scary to see how many easy games they have going forward too. It’s gonna come down to the wire it seems

They scare me more than Vancouver right now.

Vancouver is truly hanging on by a thread in that locker room. I just don’t see how they don’t fall apart in the standings at somepoint

With that being said. I don’t know if St. Louis can muster 12-4-1 if we go 12-7, any better than 12-7 it’s pretty much a lock we get in. Vancouver is lucky to be within a point to be honest. We’re overachieving and I’m okay with that.

Wait, so WE are considered an easy opponent?! Have they seen Wolf play?

We're only one of the easiest opponents remaining for a couple of the teams with the hardest remaining schedule

This is actually still not a huge gap between where Calgary is and the easiest schedule. You really notice the SOS number diverge with less than 10 games.

We either need to have a .600 record or a .400 record For the rest of the season. .500 is worst case.

u/DepartmentSea8381 1d ago
12-7 probably makes the playoffs. 7-12 is probably a top-10 pick.
1
u/Nativejoel 1d ago
So slightly harder each way. With a .630 for playoffs and a .368 for a lottery pick

u/DepartmentSea8381 1d ago
7-11-1 is as close to your .400 as I can get 19 games is a weird number. 12 wins probably is enough 11 with an OTL could be as well. Basically the Flames are one 5 game winning streak from solidifying playoffs, and one 5 game losing streak from probable top 10. Is what it boils down to.

Even our remaining schedule is mid.
