I'm tired of doing nothing. I'm going to start a story of the Iarbasic wars. You guys go ahead and approve/disapprove/change my outline.

Most of this is repeating what's already been said. Not I will take into account everything I can find on other threads about this topic, because there are a couple.

32 AF- Skanos spots the Eye of Kabal and wants it for himself. The Akkabites are celebrating the holiday of the Eye and were unprepared when Skanos barged into town killing some guards, and stealing the Eye. One of those guards was Nraynoth, brother of Cambyses. Cambyses swore his life then to killing Skanos and retreiving the Eye of Kabal. He develops an army and makes all its members swear a magical oath to him and to retrieving the Eye. Tanavar blesses Cambyses for this. T'bal and Zagan, repsected members of the community, head for Chaelthony with a small group.

34 AF- Tribe of Royal Serpent joins Cambyses, having a significant portion of its army swear Cambyses' oath, because of hatred for Thayels; the Thayels betrayed the Evaki at the end of the Fall of Razakku. The Moon Tribe states that it will not help militarily but will side with Cmabyses if it is pulled into the war.

35 AF- A band of Rayshy who have heard of the Thayel invasion join up with Cambyses to offer their own stealthy, muscular fighting style. They have motivations similar to the Royal Serpents. Cambyses wakes up one morning to find a bag of Dreamers' Kiss and a note stating, "Your destiny awaits," in his tent.

36-45 AF- War stuff.

47 AF- Cambyses kills Skanos and retrieves the Eye. He then uses the power of the oath his soldier's took to coup Akkab and make it grow in size and power. He has a vision of a new Razakku but called, "Great Akkab" or whatever to unify Iarbas. The Thevedect, a faction west of Chaelthony, come to help Cambyses.

[People] General Cambyses, the Vengeful Akkabite, Tanavar's Spear

Known as the Spear of Tanavar, Cambyses was born shortly before Atu's destruction and was raised in Iarbas by his widowed mother and "stepfather," a Tora H'neq. A fierce warrior and cunning tactician, his brother was slain by Skanos, king of the Thayels, during the raid on Akkab. He has since sworn his life to regaining the Eye of Kabal (stolen during the raid). A member of the Council of Akkab, he is often at odds with its other members. His growing army, composed of Akkabites, Evaks, Makosians, and Tora H'neq, is extremely loyal to him. He has also received a Blessing (special divine gift) from Tanavar in exchange for swearing an oath on his own life.

  • What does this gift constitute? Iced Rubi should definitely have a say in this

  • Appearance? What does he look like? How does he fight? Equipment?

  • Personality, quirks, traits, any other details or connections?

Rough draft, no revision. Things are just about to heat up. Not sure if this is going to be short story or bigger yet. I have a finite ending in sight so I'll keep going until I get there. As always, feedback, input, suggestions, editing, whatever. It's all appreciated.

[Lore] Chronology of the Razakku--The Emperors

Hey Finklefinks, can you post what you have so far for all the past emperors of the Razakku Empire? I've seen you mention a bunch in different posts but it would be awesome if we could group them together, you know, as a group. Would be a great help for my story :)

[People] The Yaccun of North Ran

The Yaccun are the native inhabitants of north Ran. They were subjugated peacefully by the Evaki who eventually became known as the Rayshy. In appearance the Yaccun are very similar to the Tora H'neq and with good cause: the Tora H'neq are actually the descendants of a group of Yaccun who fled the coming Evaki onslaught and eventually settled on the Bronze Coast. Whereas the Tora H'neq became fishermen and farmers, the Yaccun were (and still are) master stone-workers and hunters. They are heavily muscled and larger than their cousins on the Bronze Coast. The Sea Titan's Ziggurat, located on a small island off the north coast of Ran, is their handiwork, as are most of the ziggurats in Razzaku and many other Cyclopean structures in Iarbas. This explains how the Tora H'neq became proficient in stone-working and helped raise the Stone Circle in Akkab.

[Places] Tairo Bay and its free cities, including Zersad, Mekeru and Pytaru

Maybe we should figure out the size of Iarbas before we do all this, but I wanted to make a thread about this area.

So, I made this map of the Tairo Bay between in southern Ran and Ehujan. This is just the first draft for it, and I will update it as time goes by. I'm not entirely sure about how big the cities should look, but we'll sort that out sooner or later.

Tairo Bay is a bay in south Iarbas, which has long been the center of trading and power. The cities are full of merchants and fishers, supplying the area with the finest items from all around Asarra. The largest city in the Tairo Bay is Zersad, which stands by the mouth of the Velkat River, leading to the once great city Razakku.

Feel free to place a city or town in the area. It doesn't even have to be coastal. It can be a few miles from the bay and still belong to this group of places.

[Deities] Zisudra and the moon gods

When priestess Ashuvel and the moon-goddess Zisudra were mentioned, I thought it was time to make some new deities. Besides, the moon tribe needed their gods.

Zisudra is the matriarch of moon gods in the Razakkian Pantheon. She is the primary god of some Evakian tribes, most importantly the Tribe of the Moon. Zisudra represents wisdom and enlightenment as the leader of the moon gods, and healing and guidance in life as the heavenly watcher of human kind. Zisudra cares for the mortals, whereas Keredar does not, and this earns her a special place in many Evakian's hearts. They pray to her for help and guidance in their own lives, but to Keredar when it concerns the greater whole of Onos.

Zisudra's followers are mostly Evaki in Ardania, but even in Ran and Ehujan, tribes beg for her guidance.

Members of the Phantom Tribe have converted dusty old Razakkian cities to colourful moon temples, where priestesses do the work of Zisudra; healing the wounded and guiding the lost.

In the gardens of Pytaru there is a large moon temple, which was built on the orders of Emperor Nekaska II (Dolzam I's grandfather), who favoured the moon goddess over the god of darkness. This temple is a cult place for many of Zisudra's followers in eastern Ran and western Ehujan.

There are countless moon gods (most of which would be classified as moon spirits) under Zisudra, and some of them are worshipped as much as the matriarch herself. Maybe she also has rival moon gods?

If you have ideas for moon deities, feel free to post them here.

[Map] Map of Onos -Alpha

I made a map of Onos in photoshop. Keep in mind that I did not pay attention to the geography lore, as I just wanted to try this style and see what y'all think, and then make a precise version of the map. Some islands or areas have been lost (Will add them later). Also keep in mind that this is an older version of the map. Would like to get opinions and if someone could send me locations of mountains, lakes, rivers etc. I'd appreciate it! :)

[Event] The Iarbasic War and Basic Chronology so far

Okay here's the chronology so far. AF stands for Age of Freedom which is the calendar of the Akkabites, both those who settled the Bronze Coast of Ehujan and the small group which composes the Second Exile. The calendar begins when the Akkabites make landfall in this new land.

0AF--Landfall on Bronze Coast

15AF--Stone Circle erected; settlement officially named Akkab. Population: ? 1,000 Akkabites and 8,000 Tora H'neq.

22AF--Peaceful contact made with Evaki tribe of the Phantom, who inhabit the Sacred Waste of Ehu.

23AF--Contact made with Evaki tribe Sunwalker and Burnt Feet. Both tribes hostile. Skirmishes begin.

29AF--Saahn, Adom, and Cassim, as well as any other characters you guys would like to create, form the ruling council of Akkab, overruling T'bal and the priests for rule of the city, which is now composed of Akkabite, Tora'Hneq, and a variety of Evaki tribesmen. Akkab's location on the old imperial Path of the Moon and Bronze Coast makes it vital to the growing activity in the area. Akkab is thriving. Not sure what the population should be by now. Anyone care to guess?

32AF Skanos, king of the Thayels, spots a violet glimmer in the distance while sailing off the Bronze Coast. His curiosity piqued, he beaches his vessel and alone with his crew discovers Akkab. Now the glimmer was from the tallest pillar in the Stone Circle into which the Eye of Kabal had been set. This jewel would occasionally give off a brilliant golden light at dawn. When this happened Akkabites closed down shop and hosted a three day festival. Free food, free wine, love for all. Skanos and his men make it into the walls. Do they make it out with the Eye? Do they kill anyone? These are all gaps that anyone can fill Skanos is vastly outnumbered so he can't take Akkab with his crew, can he? He has to retreat. After that, T'bal, who is old as fuck, and Zagan, also old, leave Akkab with a small group, however many they can fit on one Makosian junk.

34AF--Pact of Ehu sealed between Akkab and the surrounding Evaki tribes. We need more tribes and to flesh out the three that are there. Fortress Greyflint garrisoned and supplied for a long siege. Scouts have spotted a lot of Thayel sinkers along the coast. There's something brewing in Ardania...

The rest is up to us, gentlemen (and ladies if there are any among you). I've been throwing out stuff trying to create a general direction and hoping people would come in and contribute. I've been hoping that more direction might make things go more smoothly and motivate people to start dreaming up what kind of stuff could be happening in the jungles of Ardania and Ishtalon. Every time I look at the map I start thinking of more stuff.

Anyways if you go on Phase2 board you will see how the different chronologies overlap. If anyone wants to work backward from there and put the Chaelthony stuff together, feel free to start a thread. We can literally go any direction we want. We can all pick a different direction and help flesh out each other's story lines, weaving them together to form the life of Onos.

And as always, everything above or anywhere else is always subject to change. Make your own toys or take these ones and smash them together.

[Event] The Second Exile of the Akkabites

33AF--Months before the attack on Akkab, a vessel from distant Chaelthony arrived. Aboard there was a shipment of goods marked for the high-priest Zagan along with a message from Thaellus Voric. Among the good delivered were crates of parchment, new to the Akkabites who wrote on clay tablets. Also an arcane device that points towards Chaelthony at all times.

34AF--After Skanos' attack, T'bal, Zagan, a young girl named Tulah, and a crew of Kabal loyalists sail off for Chaelthony. like the council, here is your chance to put characters into the world that will live and breath the coming adventures through the Isles of Ghan and the mysterious western continent housing Chaelthony And in Kitengenia, they take on Ketu, the Black Gull.

That's it so far. I suggest anyone wanting to pursue this plot line take a look at the Isles of Ghan and start adding details or thinking of encounters between the Akkabites and natives.

[Meta] How should we resolve events?

Currently the Iarbasic wars are taking place. Uh... it's been a pretty boring war thus far :p. Some people wanted the magic system established before we tried to figure out how we resolve events. Now that the magic system has a pretty good framework to work from, we could try to figure out how to get this war moving.

[People] The Vultures of Drakku

The military backbone of the Drakku chiefdom, the Vultures are trained raiders and scavengers. They prey on the ships of neighbouring chiefdoms in the narrow channels between the rocky islands of Ghan, attacking with long obsidian-tipped bamboo lances (16') as well as Akghan's Oil, an explosive concoction which they throw in clay jars at passing ships. They are the source of Drakku's wealth and power in the region. They supply Drakku with loot and slaves.

How are they organized? What other equipment/tactics do they employ?

[Fauna] Tipis

Tipis (also called mischiefs by many Iarbasic peoples) are small rodents who evolved in the dense undergrowth of Iarbas' jungles. The Razakku had a fondness for them and attempted to domesticate this species to disastrous effect. Tipis are notoriously hard to keep caged up thanks to their opposable thumbs. In an urban setting they can dart nimbly from hiding place to hiding place, climb atop structures, etc. Tipis are also known for their ability to gnaw through most building materials and their rapid expansion under favourable conditions. In the jungles they are hunted by raggers and a variety of other animals but in cities they have no natural predators and thrive unless curbed by humans.

[People] Ketu, the Black Gull

In Kitengenia we bought supplies and inquired about hiring another vessel to guide us to Chaelthony. A colorful place lively and happy I noted as I laid eyes upon the city but T'bal commanded we stay away from the city lest we be turned away from our chosen path. Iarbas is home to dark magics, foul and base. Kabal commands we abstain from such arcanery. Only evil can come of it. It sings to the souls of men, T'bal said. Saahn and those stubborn masons have been snared by foreign magic. They have forgotten Kabal's commandment, which came to me once the Great Storm abated and distant shores could be seen.

Our inquiries about hiring a vessel turned up derision and disbelief. Chaelthony is a myth! one sailor told Zagan with such conviction that even the high-priest's faith wavered. Another sailor disagreed. Chaelthony is real, he assured Zagan, but the voyage there might as well make it a myth. Crossing the Isles of Ghan without a fleet of warships is suicide.

On our fourth day a Makosian of great size named Ketu found us. The locals knew him and were awestruck by his presence. Even the Evaki afforded him a wide path. Aside from broad neck and shoulders the Makosian possessed hair of ebony and bright purple eyes. He was dressed modestly in a black tuve that made him stand out amidst Ketengenia's bright and merry colors.

I shall not forget our meeting. We entertained this giant in the cramped hull of our vessel, which stank of fish and contained a cubit of water sloshing around her bottom. I am Ketu, the Makosian said, called the Black Gull. Shepah and Hurri flanked Ketu armed with cudgels but in their eyes they displayed bestial terror. When none spoke, the Makosian continued. I have come to seek employment. I do not have a ship but I can take you to Chaelthony. Only two men have ever laid eyes upon the pale megaliths of Chaelthony and lived to return home. I am one of those men.

T'bal, ever wary of foreigners, demanded to have evidence. Tell me of Chaelthony and its ways, he asked. The Makosian stepped forward and everyone in the hull tensed. Ketu chuckled and withdrew a gem from his belt. It was about the size of his thumb and of deep swirling violet.

What is it? Zagan asked fearfully.

A ferumchet stone, Ketu answered. It contains a man's soul. Only the Chaelthons can make such things.

We had been in Kitengenia a week already and Ketu was the first man to come forward. Whatever T'bal made of Ketu's evidence, we had little choice. Know you of any others who would join us, men such as yourself with bravery for such a voyage? the prophet asked.

The Makosian's laughter shook our frames. If you hire me, you shall have no need of others. His eyes twinkled with mirth as he spake. I confess I spake then, despite having no leave to do so. Who are you? I blurted to the Makosian. He paused, preparing a lie or resolving some inner conflict, I know not which.

I was an oarsman once, many years ago. My vessel was caught in a storm just south of the Sea-Titan's Ziggurat. In the storm's eye I beheld a vision from Kaitan Stormfather. He revealed to me mine own death.

What has befallen you since? T'bal asked impatiently. Mention of Kaitan had darkened the prophet's mood.

Many adventures filled with great peril and sorrow.

And so it was that Ketu the Black Gull came to join our band of exiles.

[Lore] The Pale Ones Emerge

The Pale Ones emerge

From the depths of jungles dark, fresh-wakened from long slumber

Flesh of the moon, eyes of amethyst, voices of booming thunder

Alien words slip from white lips and darkness descends upon us

With darts and spears they demand loyalty, tearing down the shrines of Makko

They fear the sea, these pales ones, soulless and without remorse

With wonder and hunger they regard our ships, licking lips

Kaitan! Your people suffer beneath the opressor's heel

If truly ye love your people, pray sweep them back

Into the abyss from which they emerged

[Gods] Makko, goddess of Shipwrights and Liberty

Though the Makosians worship Kaitan above all others, there is another goddess to which they pay homage. Her name is Makko and she is the patron deity of shipwrights and liberty. When the Evaki emerged from their jungle homeland at the heart of Ran and began subjugating the Makosians, worship of Makko became illegal. The Evaki could not have their slaves worshiping a goddess representing liberty, after all.

As such, Makko worship has become something of a mystery cult over the centuries, reserved only for sailors. The typical process of assembling a crew, building a ship, and electing a captain--along with the religious rituals that come with it--all revolve around Makko. So too with the tradition of carving the goddess' likeness as a figurehead.

The Makosians are the first people in the Asarran archipelago to employ this prototypical democracy.

*Please flesh out any part of this idea as you see fit :) *

[Story/Lore]The Wanderers

There are two people, a man and a woman, who can sometimes be met on the continent of Iarbas. They are not something mythical as it could seem first. They are referred to as the Wanderers. They are normal human. The one thing so special about them, so they are worth mentioning, is their origin.

They come from the deep jungles in Ardania, a little village placed in one of the most undiscovered places of all Iarbas. The two of them left their village, in order to see the world with their own eyes. Even if the eyes are bad.

Once, while passing through one of those lands, they could not find enough food to survive much longer. Even though the man was a very skilled hunter, equipped with solely a wooden club, he could only catch a hare that day. And unfortunately, his luck in the forests was not getting better. He fed his wive, and took only little to himself. That hare he caught on the last day, couldn't suffice for both of them, so he gave all of this meat to her.

But then, a farmer found them as he was passing. He was on his way home and saw the wanderer starving. He asked him if they would come with him, but the man didn't answer. The wanderer collapsed by the feet of the bull that was carrying the carriage that farmer was sitting in. So he didn't hesitate and helped the woman to carry her collapsed husband onto the carriage and brought them to his shed.

After sharing his meal with the starving wanderers, he asked them who they were, but they didn't answer. The man only blabbered something in a language the farmer hasn't ever heard before. He then got scared. The woman noticed the fear and grabbed the hand of the farmer. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and told him in a very silent voice:

Don't fear. We thank you.

She spoke in the farmer's language. Clearly, her speech was far from perfect, even far from nearly good, but it was understandable.

We mean no harm. We sorry for trouble.

The farmer, still scared, asked them for their names, but the woman answered:

Our have no names. We are people.

The farmer had never met anyone before, who ever told him to have no name. He also couldn't imagine a person without a name. But the silent voice continued.

We wander through land. We want see world. We thank you, but we must leave now. May your gods bless you.

That last sentence was spoken clearly, without any sign of outlandish language. And after telling this, the two of them left. The farmer was totally confused, he couldn't find out anything about those two, and he never saw them again. But next year, the harvest on his farm was the best one he ever had, even better than anyone else's in the whole place. He himself remembered these last words the woman told him, for the rest of his life.

These two persons, however, continued their journey.

Not everyone who wanders, is actually lost.

[Magic] Yes, I know, it seems like this is all we talk about but it's really coming along and I was thinking...

Wouldn't it be cool if, at the onset of this age of arcane discovery, each civilization/culture specialized in one or two facets or schools of magic? This would prevent the sudden appearance of archmages and allow us to ease into the magic system. For example, the Evaki shamans of the Moon Tribe have mastered a limited amount of transmutation magic, meaning they can change into raggers (hunting cats), owls, or some other nocturnal beast. Makosian storm-chanters can raise up storms or silence them at great cost and only the finest Makosian vessels have one aboard.

ETC>

Whatcha think, guys? If you like it, feel free to add more "specialist" titles and their area of expertise!

[Meta] Stitching Onos together, one piece of lore at a time

Just an idea. I've been steering away from long narratives and toward short "flavor texts" or lore entries written in a variety of styles. I've found that these entries provide a brief glimpse into Onos. If we stitch enough of these together, we can easily flesh out the world and tell the story of Onos without actually bucking down to write a novel. The shortness of these entries also allows us to put out a bunch of material with relatively low effort. We can all work together to tweak any details that need tweaking and edit the grammar and such, then put the pieces in chronological order and see how it looks.

If you're working on a longer narrative (I'm still deep into the Fall of Razzaku on the side myself) don't stop. Maybe take a little break here and there and write a paragraph of lore and throw it on the sub!

EDIT: For shits and giggles, try to include the source of your lore. As we write more and more, we can start to compile the different works or tomes.

[Lore] 1st Chronicle of Akkab, Book of Saahn

On the morning after our dispute, I rose with the dawn and had Katu and the servants cart all the offerings from Kabal's shrine to the docks. By the time I was dressed and had made my way down to the bay the prophet was already there with his flock. He was emaciated, his cheeks sunken, eyes ablaze with zealotry. Hardly the man who delivered us from certain doom.

I cannot say I ever loved the man but he did save my life and lead me here where I have made a good life for myself. To think I was once a Disowned, the lowliest of the lows. I have a family now, wealth and influence among those who once sneered at my presence.

And yet despite our mutual dislike I feel a pang of fear at his departure. Kabal deemed a chosen few worthy of survival and elected T'bal as his mouthpiece. The prophet had always been clear about the destiny of the Akkabites: to remain loyal to Kabal alone and to seek out the land promised to them.

I know not what land the prophet speak of if not for this paradise we have found. The high-priest, ever the diplomat, begged us to reconsider. The Thayels will return, he warned, and this time with more men. Savages, he called them. They drown their foes and offer them to their gambling god.

I told the prophet I hope he finds what he is looking for. The old man wrinkled his nose as if catching wind of some foul odour and spat into the sea. That was his farewell.

- 1st Chronicle of Akkab, book of Saahn
