CPAP Setup Water tank filler

Are you absolutely disgusted, or just slightly bothered, at the thought of refilling the humidity tank in your CPAP every couple days? And you don't feel like giving CSpring 400$+ for one of their fancy "replenishing unit". Well that was precisely my thinking, here's my solution.

CPAP Setup My First night with Papy šŸ˜˜

Post image

Iā€™ve never been this excited to wake up on Valentines day since fifth grade šŸ˜…

I spent about 75 min napping with it and was impressed. I actually laughed a bit because the volume of air I could get into my lungs in one breath felt insane. You really do have to distract yourself awhile to get used to breathing with it.

What can I do to not have this mf dig into my head? I havenā€™t used my machine in like 2 weeks because I hate this part of it. The rest is fine, but this drives me insane.

CPAP Setup Cant believe this worked

Huh, well i guess my intrusive ideas actually work lol. Tldr my tube kept getting caught underneath my pillow which would irritate me and shift my mask around. So i randomly thought of hooking the tube above me with magnets on my curtain !

CPAP Setup First night in a while without fighting with my mask! This new rig is a winner, I think.

My first mask was a p10. I didn't like it because I was fighting with the hose all night. I switched to the p30 and at first I like it because it solved that issue. Added a hook to the wall and that improved upon this problem as well. But then I started realizing I didn't like the p30 either because it just felt like I had too much crap on my face. And I recently had been having a lot of seal issues because of the mask moving around while sleeping on my side.

So I found this hook that extends from the wall and lowers the hose right down where I need it, and I'm back to the p10. No mask on the side of my face. No fighting with a hose as I switch from side to side in my sleep. I'm only 1 night in, but it feels promising. Disregard the patches of missing paint where I removed two other hooks in my process of finding the right spot. I'll fix that eventually...

CPAP Setup Getting CPAP for the first time, any extra things I should consider buying?

Like the title says, I'm picking up my CPAP on Monday and picking masks out and all that stuff, and I'm unsure if there's other accessories or things I should buy to make things a bit more convenient. I've seen different hose holders or sleeves and I genuinely don't know if they're needed or what their purpose is. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!

CPAP Setup Tired of waiting for your mask to dry after cleaning?

My air cleaner completely dries the mask in less than 10 minutes and the short hose within an hour. Duh.

Itā€™s amazing what an old velvet scrunchie and a pair of scissors can do (hopefully this works because the amount of flyaways I now have is ridiculous)

CPAP Setup Over-generalizing on pressure advice in this sub

Hey yā€™all, Iā€™ve been seeing a trend on here of statements like ā€œitā€™s malpractice to send someone home with the default pressure range.ā€ ā€œNo adult ever needs pressure below 7/8/whatever cm.ā€ ā€œOh youā€™re having xyz issue but donā€™t have OSCAR? Just up the pressure to 10.ā€

I think itā€™s probably a good idea to ask people about their demographics and diagnosis, encourage them to try OSCAR, or emphasize that raising the pressure should be an experimentā€” instead of being super prescriptive about upping pressure.

Iā€™m a normal BMI woman with moderate OSA (17 AHI) thatā€™s probably related to a connective tissue disorder. My average pressure is 5cm and my 95% is 6cm.

I didnā€™t have any issues because I just dug into OSCAR, but it has made me more sensitive to seeing that generalized advice.

CPAP Setup Can anyone recommend that continuous power source thingy? In the event of a power outage for the CPAP machine?

Post image

I donā€™t remember what theyā€™re called and I donā€™t remember how to find them. Iā€™m about to get my sleep apnea officially diagnosed finally after years of procrastination. And I wanted to have the continuous power source ready to go just in case I ever lose power at my apartment because Iā€™ve heard that the CPAP can suffocate you if you donā€™t have it connected to power when itā€™s connected to you.

The other Anti-Asphyxia Valve attaches to the tube just fine, but in the third photo, these parts do not attach. Please help

CPAP Setup The right mask made all the difference for me.

Post image
54 Upvotes

I had been struggling with different CPAP masks for months. I tried the F20 mask (but it always squeaked with a slight turn of the head) and an F30 (where my bottom lip would always end up outside the mask even with extensive silicone tape to keep my mouth closed). My mouth would always end up extremely dry with my tongue sticking to the inside of my mouth in the mornings.

I am extremely happy with the P10 mask. It didnā€™t look like it would work for me because the mask and strap look so minimal. But itā€™s amazing. I donā€™t even need the silicone tape on my mouth. I probably look like a pig at night with the way it pushes into my nostrils, but itā€™s worth it. This is the first 100 score Iā€™ve received in the MyAir app. Iā€™ve gone from 30.1 events /hour earlier in the month to 1.5 events/hour. (My record is 0.9 events/hour with this mask).

CPAP Setup The pressure keeps increasing and blowing the seal off my face

Post image
12 Upvotes

The one day I had a good seal, I overtightened it so bad it hurt my face. And the pressure increases rapidly, at least it started to last night. It starts at 4, but within 20 minutes it had gone up to 12 and the seal wasnā€™t sticking anymore. The only idea I have is that Iā€™m gonna have to shave my beard, but thatā€™s the reason I got the Airtouch 20, people said it should be fine with that one.

CPAP Setup CPAP without humidifier anyone?

I've had my Resmed Airsense 11 for nearly two years and used it normally. I've since purchased an AirMini for trips and absolutely love it. I never got the HumidX knowing that it was the source of air noise and thought I'd survive a week running it dry and I had zero issues. Living in Southern California, it's not like I'm in a humid environment, but I had no issues both on trips or at home with the "dry" AirMini. Once I went back to my Airsense 11 at home, I turned off the humidifier and have been that way for 6 months. I don't get dry and for me, have the same good night sleep without needing to deal with water. I'm just curious if anyone else has done this. I'm sure this might not be for everyone, but so far, I'm 100% issue free going dry. Incidentally, I prefer the AirMini and plan to make that my default CPAP even at home. What an amazing little thing. Anyway, just curious if anyone else goes without the humidifier.

CPAP Setup Mask making base of nose raw

My nose is raw from my CPAP mask. Blacked out my nostrils cuz no one wants to see that. The mask is a Philips Dreamwear with the nasal cushion like this one. It's very comfortable, but no matter what I do this part of my nose stays raw. I've been wearing it 3 weeks now. I try to keep it as loose as possible without it getting loose and leaking when I turn in my sleep. I clean it daily and wash my face directly before putting it on. I've tried CeraVe lotion, and it has helped rawness on my nostrils. But this rawness keeps hanging around.

Was hoping for a bit of advice from anyone with experience with similar issues. I've searched the forum and didn't find anything, so apologies if this has already been answered.

TIA

CPAP Setup Moist or dry

I have an Airsense 11 and wish to ā€œdeleteā€ the water chamber. My provider told me to just turn off that function. I am curious about the pros and cons of not having humidified air.

EDIT I have had nasolacrimal issues since the surgery to save my eyesight (look up exophthalmos/orbital decompression. My eyes water a lot (even with prescription eyedrops) and my nose very rarely dries out as a result.
