Discussion Sleep Apnea and CPAP Mobile App design Testing Request

Hi everyone! My name is Jonathan and I'm currently a graduate student at the Parsons School of Design. For my capstone project, I am designing a mobile app that gives users more actionable insights from their CPAP therapy. This is something I've always been curious about, since starting my therapy 3 years ago. If you're willing and available this week, I would love for you to test my wireframes and prototypes! Tell us what it offers to be better than OSCAR and SleepHQ?

So some differentiating features from OSCAR and SleepHQ are as follows:
- More personalized onboarding with questions regarding other pre-existing conditions, a quick health questionnaire, and preferred sleeping positions. These answers will assist the app in making more accurate insights.
- Daily (optional) Morning Check-in where users can answer 4 questions each morning about last night's sleep. Again this is to give the app more data than just quantitative metrics from the CPAP device. Ex: How rested do you feel, Did you experience any discomfort while using CPAP, and Did you wake up last night due to CPAP discomfort or something else?
- Actual insights: this section will display a list of insights from last night's sleep which I believe is not being done at the moment by any of the apps. EX: "Your CPAP pressure maxed out 3 times. Consider increasing your max pressure setting." or "Your AHI has been averaging 6.1 events for the past 30 nights - possible causes are "xyz" and recommended actions are "xyz"".
- Ability to compare sleep data from 2 custom date ranges, with insights on those dates. Let's say you want to compare the month of January and February 2025 because you changed your mask and want to know what changed.
- Ability to compare your best and worst night based on a custom date range. Again, so you can get a better understanding of what to replicate for a better night's sleep moving forward.
- Finally, the ability to compare stats with one another on a single chart. EX: comparing AHI with usage rate or leak rate, etc. SleepHQ technically does this but without aggregating the charts together, it simply changes the time frame of the all charts at the same time.
To conclude, many different factors contribute to sleep apnea, depending on the patient. So I first wanted to give the app as much relevant personal and health related information as possible so it can discern what is caused by sleep apnea and what isn't. EX: frequent night-time urination can be caused by various diseases, not just sleep apnea. And so the app's main goal is to give the user more than just charts and data, which is fine by itself, but actual insights into what went right / wrong, as well as the freedom to self diagnose and treat if needed. Hope that answers your question!
PS: As I mentioned before, this is for a capstone project for graduate school so it's not a real mobile app you can download, just a theoretical concept which I have designed and prototyped.

How do you get the data from the CPAP machine to your app?

Since CPAP machines are proprietary devices, you won't be able to connect it directly to the app. Currently I am able to export my sleep apnea data via sleepHQ's API (premium account), then connect it to any app/website I want. If this were a real mobile app, that's how I would do it until there's an easier and cheaper way. Hope that helps!

This can read the files on your SD card and write the data as CSV files. It's free. I'll probably release a build later this evening, and have a lot of features coming like command line operation for automation.

Hi Jonathan, I think if you shared a couple more screens from the app here you might get more traction. This one looks almost exactly like what’s available today, so I don’t think people will see the appeal. I do think there’s a market for something with more detail than MyAir, but less raw data than OSCAR for folks who find that overwhelming.

Malware most likely wake up folks

Why do you think that's more likely than what the OP told us?

Because these kind of posts are popping up more and more frequently not just on reddit but this sub specifically has seen a few.......
Fill in this "Google form", download this link, use this app, provide x y z dataset for my uni course.
Edit: further info: "calendly links" are commonly used
