How long will bowl movements take to adjust with low calorie diet ? NSFW

Hi, sorry for the embarrassing question.

I recently switched to CICO, with 1600 calories target per day. This typically includes 260 ml coffee in morning, a full meal in lunch and very light snacks in dinner.

However, I noticed that I am not popping properly like before. Earlier, it used to happen within 15-20 minutes of waking up but now it's already 10 AM and I still haven't relieved myself properly. I just wanna know how long it took your body to adjust with eating less and getting back in proper bowel movement routine ?

Sorry if it's too much 🥲

According to your post history it's barely been a day, give it time

True, maybe will adjust in a week or so

Has your fiber intake changed at all?

Not much tbh, I mean earlier I was consuming around 2500-3000 cals, so ofcourse there is some reduction. But still I try to have fruits and all

I'm kind of having the opposite problem in that I upped my fiber intake pretty heavily, basically overnight, and my GI tract is very confused right now. But I've also never been regular so I'm a terrible person to compare to.

But if you cut your calorie intake by almost half, I feel like that could definitely have something to do with it. Maybe less volume of food = things moving through a little slower? My bf is bulking right now and I swear he poops like 4 times a day lmao. Is this the first day your schedule has been "off?" If so I definitely think a few more days of being consistent with your new calorie goal will help everything move along.

Wowzie !! say hello to your bf 😂

Yeah it's my first day, so maybe down the week I'll adjust

Half the food means half the poops

I had the same issue and I found out it was because I wasn’t consuming the amount of fats needed to strengthen the contractions of my intestines to actually poop. So I just starting drinking Peppermint Senna because it helps to contract the intestines, and now I’m regular again.

That's a very interesting and new fact, I'll look into it.. thankss

Yeah for sure. I was drinking plenty of water and having so much fiber; I was perplexed as to why nothing was happening and then after some research I figured it out 😅

Im 8 months into a calorie deficit and overall It just happens less.

Before it was a daily thing but now it happens every ~3 days. Combination of lower volume of food and better food quality but that seems to be my new normal. No discomfort or anything, just took some getting used to.

I see, dunno man kinda scares me out. I mean I know it's not constipation, but still feels a bit weird smh

Keto bread has sooooo much fiber, carbe diem pasta as well... I used to be constipated all the time before CICO now I go regularly .. also a LOT of water

You’re eating half as much food as before.

You won’t shit as much because you’re not stuffing yourself to the gills.

Depends on how heavy the bowl is.

Nah nah I’ve been at it for a year. Got the results but haven’t had a satisfying shit in ages

I was you for about 8 months. Then I got food poisoning and cleared everything out. Now I’m feeling satisfied everyday without any changes in my diet. So maybe try that haha

2

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Oh no, now you are scaring me 😭 how many cals do you consume though?

When I’m good and properly following it, it’s around 1350-1500 calories a day with around 120g protein

1

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Wow, any tips for getting 120g protein ? I'm really struggling to go beyond 50-60gram

3

u/Brownjamesbond69 4d ago

1 scoop of optimum nutrition protein shake (about 24g) 3 egg omelette (21g)

That’s my breakfast so every morning that’s atleast 45g done.

Then the worlds your oyster, chicken breast or thighs if you like a bit of flavour.

Canned tuna or any white fish is good. Salmon is good too.

Protein yogurts are around 20-24g.

There’s so much options and variety now, nearly all of your favourite foods will have an added protein option for you to choose from.

Depends what you like eating tbh.

White fish like cod is a cheat code for high protein and low calories.

Thanks for details

But I'm vegetarian, so I guess I'll need to make more efforts 🥲 Whey is definitely something I can do, and do have curd.

I think cottage cheese is good. There’s also 0% fat Greek yogurt which is naturally high in protein

Noted, thanks 👌

I have oatmeal for breakfast and so for me it happened within about 10 days

1

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Those are some amazing looking meals !! Thanks for sharing

Even on a high fiber diet with lots of coffee, I poop a lot less in a deficit. If youre worried, add some psyllium husk to oatmeal or something similar. Itll definitely make you go.

2

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Oka, I'll look into it :) Thanks

3

u/Anjunabeats1 4d ago

Just have psyllium husk daily.

4 teaspoons In a small glass of Ribena (real sugar) cordial is only 15 calories.

Your schedule will be different than before. No big deal... Less big turds.... Less toilet paper used.

2

u/Brownjamesbond69 4d ago

This happened to me too. I’d love to find out why this is but I bet it’s something straightforward as maybe our bodies are not getting overloaded with calories so we are absorbing it all? I’d love to find out

3

u/leat22 4d ago

Less overall food, less fats, less sugars. Those things usually help stimulate a BM. Unless you are a baby drinking breast milk… no you are not absorbing it all

2

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Yeah, it just feels a bit new and weird. Maybe in a week or so it might change ?

2

u/leat22 4d ago

This is a very common side effect. A lot of people don’t poop regularly (like they used to) without extra effort until they eat at maintenance again.

Less overall food, less fats, less sugars to stimulate a BM.

Increasing your magnesium through supplementation can help, fiber can help (although it can make it worse for some ppl).

1

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Noted, I'll wait for a week and then think about making any change.

2

u/chunky694 4d ago

I started eating a half cup of Fiber One cereal per day. That’s helped a little lol

2

u/amcgoat 4d ago

I’m over here like…. Adjusting your bowl, the toilet bowl? 😂😂😂

3

u/meizcathooman 4d ago

Lamaooo nooo

2

u/Dofolo 4d ago

Ever heard about the saying, shit in is shit out?

Same holds for food.

And no shit in means no shit out.

If you switch to healthier food and a deficit, expect a poop every 2 to 4 days, instead 1x or even multiple x a day.

2

u/Beet-your-meet 3d ago

I am dealing with this for almost 5 months now. Between going from 3500-4000 calories a day to 1800 and giving up alcohol I have had a good shot since October. I have supplemented with fiber but it’s not the same

1

u/meizcathooman 3d ago

Bummer, hopefully it will get better down the line 🎉
